Next Gen Consoles

I think that wasnt aimed at me, im pretty certain of it. But anyway, The Xbox games appeal to me much more than the ps4 titles do. MILES more.

I mean, titanfall might just be cod with robots. But it's still something different, a new ip.
On ps4, the closest thing would be killzone... Iand it's just more of the same isn't it. Yeah it's pretty and bigger but still... I'd find it just as hard to care about a new halo or gears of war. Titanfall could be crap for all I know. But that unknown, the 50/50 chance is more appealing than what I get from killzone. A feeling of over familiarity and ... Well.. Not much confidence that it will amaze me.

What puts me off both though is battlefield 4. I don't think I could devote enough time to play any other shooters and get enough out of them with this coming as well. It's like trying to play 3 different final fantasy games at once... You don't get the same rich experience. For every hour I spend in one game, it's an hour I've lost in another... And now I'm an hour behind the rest of the players.

Forza and drive club. Just replace killzone with Forza and drive club with titanfall. Switch-a-roo. Plus driving games kinda bore me.

Ryse... Doesn't really have an equal on ps4 (well god of war but it's not here) but it appeals to me as it looks good. Just seems disappointing in all the previews I read.

Dead rising 3. Again no equal on ps4 at launch, In that there isn't a like for like game.
Previews are putting me off the more I read. But I don't know. I loved the first, hated the second. So another 50/50 game here that could go ether way. There is that daylight game coming from the dead island team that graphically looks great but I've not got any idea about what the gameplay is.

I'm just leaning to the ps4 due to the price, the gaikai streaming and the exclusives that will come. Infamous second son is probably the only exclusive game I'm looking forward to on ps4 so far.

I just have a feeling that on launch day I'll only be buying Multiplats. Definitely watchdogs and battlefield 4. maybe FIFA if it's any good. I guess drive club ps+ edition as it comes with the console and PS+.

No more always online requirement

Wasn't that supposedly the main reason certain exclusive devs believed the Xbox was better etc? Access to the cloud and all that?

Xbox 180

So before I could play a friends game without having to borrow the disc or going to his house to pick it up but now I'll have to wait for him to finish the game before I can borrow it. Sounds to me like we'll now have to buy the games we want instead of simultaneously playing them from a friend's purchase which sits on the cloud. I guess that's a direct result of taking out the online check every 24 hours. Shame it couldn't work some other way like when the friend goes to play it, there's a check done at that point or something. Eh...

Hopefully they bring in a choice for both types of gamers. Those who DO have an always on connection and want to be able to share games without needing multiple copies of a disc and those who play offline only (or mainly) and want to play from disc.

Negitive news from Sony camp now:

PS4 Online Multiplayer Unavailable for Countries Without a Store

“Unfortunately at this time gamers in countries which do not have a Store cannot access online multi-player features. However, we are considering every measure to offer PlayStation Store services to these territories as soon as possible. To clarify, the affected territories are: Bahrain, Lebanon, Romania, Oman, Slovakia, Malta, Cyprus and Iceland.”

Loving the new Xbox name now called XBOX 1 80 lol genius
Sorry Thomas but if this news is true canceling PS4 purchase immediately.
Even the PS3 boys at IGN admit the games lineup is way better on Xbox

I'm hoping Microsoft can come up with some middle ground here. I was hopeful (but skeptical) that Microsoft's stringent requirements that all it's users would be online and their strong push towards an all digital marketplace would push gaming to a better future. I liked the idea behind all my games being tied to my account (which could be taken anywhere) instead of tied to a physical disk. And frankly, I just wanted to see how well the Steam-style marketplace would translate to consoles.

But, like I said, maybe Microsoft can come up with a solution that pleases both camps. Perhaps there can be some way to enter their digital rights program on a volunteer basis and take advantage of their "family plan" idea and other features. Now we have two consoles that are essentially the same as their previous generation but with better graphics.

This really scraps my plan to buy 3 X1s for my house for each viewing room (Living room, kids playroom, my bedroom) and just move my content room to room digitally. It was going to be awesome. Sigh.

I think they are making a quick decision now to make sure they don't lose too much of the market share and hopefully they can re-introduce the sharing feature with a more considered approach after they launch.

KUDOS to Microsoft for seeing the light (not that they had a choice really) and for Sony in leading the way. I'm now interested in picking up an Xbox180 at some point down the road--when the price is reasonable.

They didn't see the light. They saw the crazy number of pre-orders not going their way.

It would be interesting to see what data they relied upon to decide to change their policies. It can't just be negativity from "teh Internets" because that's pretty much all you are going to get no matter what you announce. I assume they were getting feedback from marketers/retailers that there was a real danger of getting blown out of the water by Sony in the first holiday season based on pre-order numbers. Considering that having such a strong start is what helped lead Microsoft to dominate Sony in the current generation (and I know that total consoles sold was about the same, but Microsoft made so much more profit through services and licensing that they crushed Sony) I have to assume there were some serious numbers trending downward that motivated the policy change.

Obviously Microsoft knew that with their 24-hour check-in and broadband requirement they were catering to gamers with larger disposable incomes. That had to be their initial strategy... to get the technophiles to latch on to the X1 early. Now, they seem to be abandoning the features that appealed to that crowd to go after gamers with smaller amounts of disposable income. It's all fascinating to me, I'd just love to see whatever data they relied on.

What a bunch of pricks they really are at Microsoft !! They're spin this as if they have "listened" to fan feedback but wtf were they thinking of in the first place ? Fuck them !
