Next Gen Consoles

I don't know but I presume it was the same as on the PS3.

I don't follow why they can't have ps+ and online passes then. Online play was xbl gold only, subscription only. And if they had passes too it should be the same for ps4. Or am I missing something?

Anyway... Rumour time

Why didn't Epic show for Microsoft?

Online was/is free on PS3 maybe that's a factor, I don't know.

Next Gen Console Battle is over before it even started.
Microsoft will lose this fight clearly.
more than 50% of my mates are playing on Xbox360 right now, but almost all want to move to PS4 - just only about the news and facts that were revealed around the E3...
I think even good exclusive titles won't help to avoid a desaster...

I can understand fighting piracy and I can even understand DRM, but to not be able to play your console in a country other than 21 mentioned is borderline retarded. What's the logic behind this ?
Asia will have to wait a whole year before getting the Xbox One :CONFUSE:

This cannot be real can it :CONFUSE::ROLL:

It seems fairly straightforward and yet it's so hard to believe that I can't help thinking that I must be misinterpreting the situation somehow. After all, we're not talking about a lack of support in, say, Equitorial Guinea or the Pitcairn Islands; the list omits nations like Portugal, Japan, Ukraine, Greece and Poland, ironically the homeland of Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt. These are potentially huge chunks of the international market that Microsoft appears to be willfully and completely bypassing.

Quite shocking really. I couldn't quite believe it when I saw countries like Poland, Portugal and Greece not on that map. No Eastern European or Balkan states, no Turkey, no Argentina.

Seems like MS are giving Sony a massive head start in these territories.

There's no Japan on that list of countries. Given how abysmal the 360 has done in Japan, I think MS must have already conceded to Sony in that region. Giving them a year's head-start when the Japanese side with Sony so much is commercial suicide.

I wonder if what's left of the Japanese studios, if they are still going to develop for the Xbox one?

I'm more surprised MS are taking the XBone to Japan at all. Sales of the 360 were quite insignificant given the size of the gaming market in Japan.

Someone from avf mentioned how witcher 3 which is developed in poland i i think, cant even play their own game :FAIL:

That would make sense.

What about other big gaming markets like Korea or China?

The other Asian markets will not get the XBox One until late 2014. a whole year after the US.

I sort of understand why they don't want people to be able to activate games outside of some regions as it acts as a "region lock" to the games which 360 and Wii still has. But I'd think that with the PS3 and PS4 being region free, it is sort of stupid this way

Microsoft wants to make a revolution in the gaming world whereas it's so not the moment for it with the economic crisis still hurting people all over.Sony have been so smart about it

True, you'd think MS would either try and pull out all the stops in Japan to relaunch their brand or leave it entirely. Not releasing it at all makes sense though. 360 sales weren't worth the effort.

Well I'm definitely going PS4. For the following reasons;

- price
- controller
- no drm even though I think publishers will block second-hand anyways - I think it's important though that I vote with my wallet against drm consumer rights being changed at will, MS changed their policy thinking gamers will lap it up anyways.
- I get to keep the disc and could play it years down the line
- its a faster machine and potentially more powerful
- Naughty Dog
- indie games seem like they'll be more plentiful
- Playstation Plus. Getting Drive Club on launch with it is awesome
- interchangeable hdd
- no mention, unlike MS at this point, of blocking my surround sound gaming headset from being used

No contest for me really. The only XBOne title I'd miss from E3 is Dead Rising 3. But I think, this time around, that due to PS4's ease to programme meaning inferior Sony ports of multi-platform games are a thing of the past, then I can't see a reason for XBOne.

The only bit of news I'm interested in now are how much games will cost and whether Sony will support my Fanatec wheel. I presumed both consoles would but the way MS have been carrying on I'm not so sure.

Sony confirmed that there will be no DRM even by third party publishers to block second hand market at all.
the only issue you could face is the online pass for mulitplayer:

Any PS4 game disc can be rented, resold, offered to friends (etc) with no checks or restrictions.

The online (multiplayer) component of third-party games could be restricted to second-users (with a paid online pass required to unlock).

However, the online component of third-party games may not be locked - the decision is down to the publisher.

When it comes to first-party games, there will be no online restrictions.

Traditional DRM policy (no lending) applies to digitally downloaded games, as usual.

The are also a couple of free to play games that will be available on day 1. Dc universe, Planet side 2, warframe and backlight something or other. I believe that planet side 2 and I think war frame won't require ps+ to play online either. Not sure about the others but definetly sure about planet side.

Yes, I'll be following this with interest too.

I fully expect Sony to continue supporting racing wheels over USB. Given that the official Gran Turismo wheel is made by Thrustmaster and previously Logitech (both USB wheels), I think they would be crazy to potentially freeze-out hundreds of thousands of existing wheel owners.

I have less confidence in Microsoft. Seeing as their controllers are moving over to Wi-Fi, the rumours are that existing MS-compatible racing wheels may not work - unless they allow USB support, that is. My Fanatec CSR is the official Forza Motorsport wheel, introduced alongside Forza 4. If people who bought this wheel cannot use it with Forza 5 then that's a real kick in the teeth by MS. Personally it won't affect me as I'm into the PC racers these days, but I feel for those that could be stuck with an expensive wheel that is effectively useless on the XBone.

Something I don't understand about the Xbox One.

The DRM works where if you hand your disc to a friend, they can't play it unless they pay to activate or if you gift it to them (in turn losing the game yourself).

But then I'm hearing that up to 10 friends can access your game library at any time even if you're online.

I don't understand how those two things work together. How do they access and play your games, if they're blocking that?

-

Edit apparently - you just give your account to up to 10 friends. They can then play anything you activate via an installed disc or download.... for free... any time they want.... even if you're online. Though they can't play the same game as you (from what I gather).

That seems to not only contradict the point of DRM on the discs but also make the issue worse. A shared disc goes to 1 friend only. This means 10 friends can share everything between them.

Online Pass is “not coming back, it’s dead,” says EA labels president

“We’re not crafting a strategy to bring [Online Pass] back, you will not input codes to unlock your game, it’s not going to happen,” he said, even referring to the Online Pass program at one point as “flat out dumb.”

“At the end of the day, we’re not going to replace [Online Pass]. It’s not coming back. It’s dead.”

Read more about this account sharing on Xbox one.

Basically you can have your account on up to 10 different consoles. You can play your own games on your own console and then 1 friend can log in to your account and play your games. But not what you're playing.
Also only 1 friend can log in so you can't have 10 friends all accessing your account at once playing different things.

Who knows exactly? This is why I'm waiting to see how the dust settles before getting either console.

Not sure what console to buy.
Especially living in America where xbox and live work like intended .
playstation network is so behind latest technology and the controllers suck .
It's easier for European ps3 fans to pretend they are making a choice when they were buying a PS4 regardless.

Was leaning towards the ps4 after the news about the 8gb ddr5 (as other than that the consoles are pretty identical tech wise) and have only been reading stuff to make the choice easier. There is not much reason for me to go for the xbox, I already have "open" mediaplayers that play all the movies and tvshows I want to watch, so going towards a closed system run by MS isn't attractive at all. I'm also principly against the bigbrother nature of the online checks...seeing as I these days I can go a couple of weeks to a month without ever using my console(s), and I unplug them to not waste electricity.

Actually it isn't really a choice is it...

I wish Bill Hicks or George Carlin were alive to comment on all this. They'd surely have something to say about letting Big Brother into your home.

No, not really. PS4 is cheaper, smaller and looks better, has a better controller (not a fan of the xbox controller), has better tech, is probably more reliable, is more consumer friendly, has a better legacy of games, PS+ is a better deal than live, has better exclusives... the list goes on and on doesn't it.

Ah okay, that clears it up, thanks :) PS4 it is for me.

I'd love to buy both but even though DRM will go this route for everyone eventually, I really feel now is the time to at least vote with my wallet against MS changing the shape of consumer rights purely because they think gamers are fanatical enough to ignore it. But in many ways they're right, a large number of my mates were outraged by MS at first, then they saw a few games from E3 and have gone and pre-ordered XBOnes. This sucks because I love playing Battlefield with them :(
