Next Gen Consoles

I liked the Sony conference only because MS has to react now.
DRM and second hands games are not an issue for me but I need more to be convinced by one or the other.
For instance I would have like to see some Kinect in action or more gameplay on Ps4.
Ps4 seems like a solid console but for 100€ more, the xbox one seems more appropriate for me.
I think I will wait march/april to get one, but I'm pretty sure I will get both one day.

hahaha

ps4 for me. cheaper and offers more.

they will have more exclusives then MS imo like GT7, uncharted, possibly last of us 2?

MS had a stronger showing of their exclusives because they had to throw everything they had at E3. Sony's biggest developers, however, are still releasing stuff for PS3 - for example at the conference itself we saw Beyond, The Last Of Us, GT6, all looking immense. It'd be extremely short-termist to think that the situation will stay the same when Sony's biggest hitters move onto the next gen - it'd still take a lot from MS to buy the sort of talent under the Sony Studio umbrella and equal/best them in one generation.

Thats what i am saying. naught dog no doubt is working on new shit for the ps4. teh exclusive IMO are just better on the sony consoles IMO.

Wasnt impressed with the games at sony's conference. Watchdogs probably impressed me the most and that's not only Multiplat but on current gen too.

Unsure about how they worded playstation plus. Is it required for online play now or just enhances online play?

All the DRM info is great and the price is great. The console, it looks like an italic version of the new Xbox one!?

I think Microsoft had to do something to impress with their exclusives and did. Sony kinda know they already have those games so probably don't need to boast about it all do much.

I'd like to hear more about ps3 games on ps4. It said USA first so I'm not going to expect it here for at least another year.

no release date or even month revealed for the console, but at least it's this year.

I want to see the exact day 1 games on sale before I really jump in two footed. Drive club doesn't interest me at all, killzone & watchdogs could be great. But I'm feeling abit meh about it all now.
On Xbox I'd be excited to try ryse on day 1. On ps4, I can't think of anything other than watchdogs. And again it's Multiplat and current gen.

Hmmmm...

With the likes of naught dog and PD yet to release a game on ps4, i think the ps4 would be the better option long term as for me anyway the PS has better exclusive content.

i just need GTA5 to be on ps4 and im set

I won't be buying either on day one, happy to wait for the price drops and see how each console develops till then.

But Sony has certainly showed there to be a level of arrogance to Microsoft. For Xbox to have all these limitations I wrongly assumed that Sony would follow suit, but clearly not.

Microsoft have clearly got their pricing wrong. Trying to shift a console for over £400 in a time of austerity is not a good move. I forsee some pretty rapid price drops for the XBone or big game bundles to make it seem good value.

PS4 has so many things going for it I would have no reason to buy a XBone knowing what we know.

Oh yeah I know Sony have a ton of exclusive games that will come. Microsoft impressed me most on the day, but to be fair it's not about just that day.

Ryse looked stunning, but the gameplay seemed really... like the shield section was an on rails section. The fighting was just hit someone a few times and then the rest is quick time events. So maybe it looks so great because the gameplay is just sooooo shallow?

I was hoping for at least 1 big game from sony that made me as excited. An uncharted, god of war, infamous, motorstorm, maybe even bring back syphon filter.

I think I'm going to end up buying a PS4 because overall it ticked more boxes. I just wish it had ticked the games box too.

I'm not sure I want to buy one on launch any more though.

PS4 is the way to go, slightly disappointing Online play is now a membership fee but considering the content provided I can't complain too much.

The PS3 games were the most impressive in my eyes  further's my point that there's no need to upgrade on launch and wait 6 months for a further price drop which would be a nice number when it comes to the PS4.

I can hardly believe Sony actually managed to use that Microsoft c*ck up to their advantage. I was so sure they would just go the same or similar route. And Tretton enjoyed saying that sooooo much it was hilarious :D

Crowd went nuts:SMUG:

I'd really love to see Sony bury the xbox. I can't stand Microsoft's tactics of buying companies off all the time and the smirky Microsoft douchebags that come up onto the stage every year and try to act like they actually know and give a shite about gaming.

I just rewatched it. I love how absolutely absurd he makes the Xbox One DRM thing sound. It's like he's holding a Microsoft Exec by the collar and punching him in the face with each line.

Looks like Sony have changed their interface from the old XMB of the PS3 to a more social style (maybe more like the Xbox's)

Doesn't look too bad. Cross party chat has been confirmed (although I think it should have been an update for the PS3 a while ago!)

Screen shots of new interface. All found here: http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming/consoles/ps4-release-date-news-and-features-937822

Instant on/off. No loading time. Also the ability to start downloading games and play them before they have finished. Also you can download games from your phone and they will go straight to the PS4.

BluRay will be 3 times faster than previous model. Not sure if it will be quicker than the XBO.

Not sure if I like the interface yet. Looks like it's geared more for advertising. Maybe it's customizable... I'll miss the xmb I think.

Remember when Sony was the big bad corporation, running Sega to the ground? They knew nothing about gaming, only had money on their sights...

Almost 20 years later, they became "Sega", championing for the players, against the new big bad corporation that only wants profit at whatever costs.

Funny how things change eh?

This is getting crazy now.

"If Kinect senses too many people in the room, it will prompt the users to upgrade the license."
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/...iewing-content-watched-number-of-viewers.html

Xbox One will monitor users' content viewing in a number of ways.

Microsoft's next-generation console has applied for a patent offering users Xbox 360-like achievements for watching specific content and adverts, reports Gamesindustry International.

The console's Kinect 2 will also employ DRM measures to prevent more people than the license allows viewing the content at one go, as per another patent filed last year.

If Kinect senses too many people in the room, it will prompt the users to upgrade the license.

"Television viewing tends to be a passive experience for a viewer, without many opportunities for the viewer to engage or have interactive experiences with the presented content," the application for the achievements reads.

"To increase interactive viewing and encourage a user to watch one or more particular items of video content, awards and achievements may be tied to those items of video content."

The company has said that not all the patents they apply for will necessarily be incorporated into Xbox One.

"Microsoft regularly applies for and receives patents as part of its business practice; not all patents applied for or received will be incorporated into a Microsoft product," it told MCV.

However, the trade said that its UK industry sources have confirmed that the DRM system will be implemented on Xbox One.

The company claimed earlier in the week that its policies for the next-generation console were still subject to change before its launch.

Announced this week, Xbox One - described as an all-in-one "ultimate home entertainment system" - will be launched later this year.

While the system won't require an always-on connection, it must be connected to the internet every 24 hours.

A report suggested the firm and publishers will profit from all second-hand sales.

Xbox One will see 15 exclusive games launch in its first year, including Forza Motorsport 5 on day one.

So with a PS4 I assume you will still need to keep the disc in the drive everytime and switch discs when changing games? That was the one thing about the Xbone I really liked the sound of :(

Sounds right.

I will be getting a PS4 at launch, as like the current gen, I reckon it will have the better game exclusives.

Mmm, good point. Not sure about the answer, yet. I also like that about the xbone.

You can buy the games digitally, if you want. No need to change discs that way. I believe all the games will be released digitally on day one in PS4.

Definitely the best feature on the Xbone, that should have been standard on both consoles by now!
