I like the player but not his attitude. His on going saga over shadowed arguably our most important preseason in years.

It does all sound a bit fishy! Rio agent saying it was never that Rio wanted over 110k a week when fergie has said it was weeks ago! and now you have fergie saying how he will build the team round him ect!

Manchester United have announced that England international Rio Ferdinand has signed a new contract.
United said on their official website: "Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has signed a new four-year contract at Old Trafford.
"The defender's new deal ends months of speculation about his future and keeps him at the club until 2009".

its not his fault the media in the UK overblow everything...... the guy is one of the best in the world and he deserves high wages... if he can get higher wages elsewhere, then good for him... did rio even comment during this whole media hype?

Thats the problem. If Rio had come out and explained exactly what the situation was, there wouldnt have been a problem.
Its easy to stick by him after he signed but that doesnt take away how much he pissed so many fans off.

Right,its all clear now.We have extra funds at around 5 million pounds now after the selling of Kleberson and Phil Neville.In the next ten days,we should find out if we are getting Michael Owen or not.A transfer of any kind of player has to be made,two useful players out,lots more loaned out,extra funds available...we have to make moves man...First we have to get Debreceni VSC out of the way tonite.C'Mon United.

Your words are a little old Jason.We all know its not fully Rio's fault about this whole contract saga.Before this new contract deal was brought up,Rio has 2 full years to play on,now...he's indefinitely the best centreback we have,everybody knows we have to keep him,thus,suddenly this contract talk was brought up.The leech that we should all hate is his scum agent Pini Zahavi.He takes advantage of all this and decided to exploit this whole deal.Rio just wants to play football and stay at Man United,thats it.Bottom line,Hes not a drug addict,he missed the test,which turns out negative anyway in the follow up.I'm personally happy that we'll see Rio till 2009.

Ooooo. Our first competative match. I have high expectations from this. Everything i the wast month was easy but now is the real test for guys like Ruud to deliver.

You could maybe try bbc.co.uk, they have free streaming on some events (watched the snooker on it when TV coverage was off)

Well with United being the party that initiated the contract talks, Rio was within his rights to ask for an increase.

United supporters lost track of the fact that this contract is only important so the club can command a big fee when he either goes abroad or goes to chelsea in two years.
