Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

hm...i heard that Giggs won't start this match....true??? nor Keane as well...

well, this really is a minor trip, but since first important match...should play stronger!!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Well its a supposedly weak opponent so its the right time for Park and Smith to play instead IMO. It will be like a real warm up before the start of the season. Similar to what Chelsea and Arsenal got out of the Community Shield game.

Thats the problem. If Rio had come out and explained exactly what the situation was, there wouldnt have been a problem.
Its easy to stick by him after he signed but that doesnt take away how much he pissed so many fans off.
YOU DONT COMMENT WHEN YOUR MAKING
DEALS DUDE, HE WAS RIGHG TOO KEEP QUIET!!!
Rio Ferdinand has dismissed as 'a load of rubbish' reports he was holding out for a £120,000-a-week contract at Manchester United.

Ferdinand: New contract. (NealSimpson/Empics)
The England defender agreed a four-year deal with the Old Trafford outfit on Monday and will sign it before the Premiership opener against Everton on Saturday.

Ferdinand wants to repay the loyalty shown to him by the club throughout his eight-month ban for a missed drugs test, and hopes to stay beyond the end of his new deal.

The 26-year-old was a target for United fans as his contract talks dragged on and admits he was hurt during a difficult few weeks.

He told The Sun: 'It's not nice when you are getting stick from some supporters, particularly over something that was never true.

'I will never forget how the club stood by me during my eight-month ban last year and of course it hurts to suggest I would throw that loyalty back in their face.

'I have got a thick skin and have always accepted that criticism is something which comes with the territory. You are up there to be shot at when you play for a club like Manchester United and it's up to you to deal with it.

'But the supporters were reading all sorts of stuff about me that was totally wide of the mark and that has made things difficult in recent weeks.'

Ferdinand rejected suggestions he had turned down a £100,000-a-week offer from United and demanded £120,000 a week.

'I don't know where those stories came from but it was a load of rubbish. I can't blame the fans for wondering what was going on. I would have asked the same questions if I was reading some of that stuff.

'The other United players were naturally asking me about developments. But I told them I would be staying at United and that was always my intention. I will be signing a new contract this week. The deal runs until 2009 but hopefully I can stay on beyond that.'

Ill tell you were the comments came from Alex fergurson!
could be true, all the better reason for rio to keep his mouth shout during deal making time, if he would have come out and said i want to stay, they would use that against him and cheapen the deal, rune, you reallyi should not dislike rio, the media and possibly sir alex, blew this out of proportion, i love rio, the man is pure gold back there.. especially when he OWNS Henry everytime they play...

Well he did a pretty good job making sure that it didnt go out in the open.
Besides, if its already gone public, what harm would it have done to come out for an interview somewhere and set the record straight?
Sure you have to keep quiet but it was pointless being quiet after it reached the media.

I never said its Rio's fault. I'm saying that its Rio's fault for not doing anything about it.

I dont hate Rio. I'm just saying that I didnt like the way he handled things. And his agent is an asshole.

the harm would have been done at the bargaining table, his agent is trying to cut the best deal possible, and if he is out in the press saying how much he loves manu etc... it weakens his agents case, this is a business plain and simple, wouldnt you want to get the most money for the job you do?

Wow your reaching there, its similar to city fans telling us they are the best supporters in the world yet they never fill their ground...

Anyway, in last years CL qualifier we got 55K so with 40K already being sold and tickets still on sale it will hit 50K again.
