Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Ji-Sung Park is exactly the type of player we need. Should be a great player in a few years.

Overall a great performance by the lads. Good to see our great attacking trio all get on the scoresheet. Park IMO played well. Showed that he has bags of pace thats hard to compete with. Ronaldo was fun to watch as usual. Rooney scored one and assisted two so he did his job well. Ruud didnt get many chances in the game so it was good to see him score one if the only opportunities he got. I doubted his ability to score in recent months thinking he probably needs about 5 or 6 chances to put away a goal but he proved me wrong. Rossi being on the bench must have been a great boost for his confidence.
We just have to keep the ball rolling now and everything will be fine.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Rossi is a huge talent, was it a penalty for JSP/PJS? I didnt get another look.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Newcastle apparently dont want Owen anymore...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

No problemo, which ones though? the ones of ma tv? :p

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

13 Park
19 Van der Sar
23 Richardson
42 Rossi

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I knew about Park, Rossi and Richardson but I'm surprised that VDS isnt number 1.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

IMO it gives you an idea of where the manager believes you stand in the squad. For example, number 9 and number 10 are usually your main strikers and number 1 is usually your first choice keeper.
With Howard keeping number 1, it means that the manager still sees him as our main keeper for the future.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Numbers dont mean that much, I mean according to the EPL site Silvestre is number 27, yet he basically plays every game?

I dont think Fergus woulda bought Van Der Saar if he planned on keeping Howard as number 1 choice.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Yeah VDS is definitely first choice. Same with ppl like Robben 16, first choice, Cudicini was 23 for the whole of last season and season before, etc!

Barthez was never number 1, right? :D

He got the number 1 jersey while he was playing for us.He insisted on number 16(his fav.number) at first but that was Keano's and nobody is gonna have a say in that.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I don't think I'd have liked to be the one to ask Keano to swap numbers......

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Haha, seriously, it'd be like: erm, Roy, so my favreet nombere eez 16 yes? So...

Roy: F(*& off Frenchie.

Fabian: Ah Ok zen.

Hehe. Anyway, thought game sounded exciting, pity didn't convert Ronaldo's first strike that would have been a beautiful team goal. Oh and they were unlucky about the goal dissallowed, no way was that a foul on Gary. But hey, maybe that means we're getting some luck this year! Could it be!?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Hahaha,heres the re-enactment.

Barthez:Adieu Monseouir Keane.
Keano: Allo' mate.
Barthez: Keane, canz moi ave' your jerzey numberz?
Keano: Why would you want to do that? (With that look he usually gave to Vieira)
Barthez:Mizz cuzzziii...au revoir....merci bocuop *flees*

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Hahah im sure he has learnt to speak English by now! Hes got the chance to now that he aint gonna be playing footie for a few months, due to his spitting ban!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

According to some speculation today, Cicinho has flown in to Manchester to complete a £8million move to Old Trafford.

This is out of the blue but still good to hear. Probably doesnt solve our midfield or goal scoring problem as much as someone like Ballack or Owen would but this guy would be the ideal man to take over Gary Neville.

What are your thoughts?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

How long do you expect Gary Neville has before he is replaced?

Hes a good defender still, plus a great crosser.

Not so in winning eleven though :lmao:

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Gary is so underrated in Winning Eleven.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Very, i assumed they would give him better stats come WE9, but theyre the same.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Man Utd finish 3rd again? I doubt that.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

What about that preidcted squad? Seem right?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I think Park is going to become a super sub player, as might Rossi. I think the above team is about right, except maybe with Fletcher replacing Giggs and switcing sides. I'll be very impressed with Arsenal if they manage to do better than us, I think our squad is much stronger.

Cicinho? Would he really come to United to be a backup for a year? Cause I can't see us replacing Gary yet. What's SAF suddenly got against the Nevilles! ;) Unless of course he has some potential as a DMF, does he? I know nothign about him, other than he's brazilian, and therefore can probably attack well. Which bodes well, as Heinze has shown he's not half bad at that either :)

I like that stereotype! :p

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Sir Alex Ferguson does not want to sign Michael Owen because he will not fit into Manchester United's style of play, according to cricket coach John Buchanan.

The Australian was handed a tour of Old Trafford before the Ashes Test up the road and was fortunate enough to meet with Ferguson.

A candid discussion followed and Buchanan managed to get an answer on the Owen situation, something that football journalists have had little luck securing over the past couple of weeks as speculation has mounted that United want to sign the Real Madrid striker.

"He talked a little bit about Michael Owen and he doesn't really see his style of play fitting in with Man United," Buchanan revealed to The Guardian.

"That's one of the reasons they're not going for him.

"There was an interesting article in the paper about those type of players who, when they look back on their career, haven't really given themselves the opportunity to play as much football as they could have done, simply because of where they've positioned themselves at various clubs.

"He feels that he could drop his price or at least make sure that he just gets out and plays rather than sitting, as he is, as a fifth-choice striker at Real Madrid."

Owen has been told he is still wanted at Real but his first team opportunities look extremely limited after the arrival of Robinho and Julio Baptista, even though the latter may be used in a midfield role.

looks like the 4-3-3 formation is staying..
