Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Fot what's it worth: Man Utd would be interested in American CB Onyewu who is a good young player and who plays for Standard de Liège in Belgium. Anderlecht wanted to buy him a couple of weeks ago and Standard asked 3 million euro....

lol. That avatar looks pretty real.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

So we signed scholesy til 2009. I love the guy, glad we've got him. But I hope that doesn't mean SAF is going to force him into the team til he's old and gray. Like a certain irishman...

I'm still optimistic about the Ballack thing. He hasn't signed at Bayern, and while this could all be a scam to up his price tag with them, I think he's considering moving away. My only concern would be SAF willingness to guarantee him a spot. IMO a midfield 3 of Smith, Scholes and Ballack would be far stronger than Keane, Scholes and Fletcher, which looks like its going to be the norm. But we'll see, most likely we'll get noone else this summer, and have the same problems as last year when we have to play our weaker second string players. Except no longer have 2 of them for the midfield.

Gerd this man is immense, I asked you about him about a year ago, but you hadnt heard of him, he is one of the biggest footballers I have seen, and he has pace and skill, and no one, will beat him to air balls.... I hope what your saying is true, a backline of him and rio would be fantastic

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Scholes has less chance of slowing up/becoming a burden due to his style of play. I always liked the way he bought himself time with a simple touch. Always a class performer. Good bit of business by Man U.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I know csaunders...but in a year even Belgian people can learn some things...
Seriously, Onyewu is truly a great player...

Except Peter Crouch. Who wouldn't have to jump ;)

I'm liking the sounds of him, a one day all american back pairing of Spector and this guy? Craziness...

Lampard - it's like United
Friday, August 12, 2005

“We had to deal with a lot of animosity last season and we know we’re going to face even more of it this time. Everyone wanted to beat us because of the money and the unique situation that goes with Chelsea. Now we are the champions and our opponents will all be trying even harder when Chelsea are in town. You can feel the resentment in the streets when you are approaching the ground. Their fans will raise their level of support and their players will go up an extra gear. I can kind of understand it because we’ve got resources which a lot of other clubs don’t have and it puts people’s backs up. People want to knock us down and we have to use that knowledge to create a special spirit within our camp. And that’s what the manager is very good at. Now I can appreciate what Manchester United have had to put up with over the past 10 years. But when you’re getting criticism from all angles you use it to make yourself even stronger.”

I've said this to many chelsea fans who have a persecution complex.

Onyewu preps for new season

23 tickets to Germany
Onyewu breaks Catracho hearts late
Anderlecht unfazed by Onyewu deal

According to a stateside source close to the player, Standard Liege defender Oguchi Onyewu will soon be the subject of a transfer offer from Premiership titans Manchester United.

The strapping US international has been the subject of rumored interest from several traditional European powers this summer - including Hamburg, Lazio and Newcastle - with a price tag reportedly starting in the €4 million neighborhood.

In early July, Standard had rejected a bid from fellow Belgian side Anderlecht.

"Man Utd has been scouting Onyewu for a while, and had been present at the Gold Cup," the source told YA on Friday morning.

"They've been in contact with Standard, and an official bid should come within ten days, probably earlier than that. They want him in as soon as possible as the season starts this weekend."

Should Onyewu transfer to Sir Alex Ferguson's Red Devils, he would join US international teammate Tim Howard at venerable Old Trafford.

Onyewu has enjoyed a stellar rise as a professional after taking early leave from Clemson University in 2002. The 6'3" dead-ball target threat was signed by longtime suitors FC Metz, but a coaching change led to a loan spell at Belgian club Louvière.

Onyewu then made the jump to Standard, where he has gained valuable UEFA Cup experience in becoming one of the Jupiler League's top performers.

The Washington D.C. native recently celebrated the CONCACAF Gold Cup crown with the US National Team, scoring a vital winner against semifinal foe Honduras.

Manchester United declined to comment on the situation, while Standard Liege have delayed making a statement to YA until the afternoon.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I kinda happy about not getting Owen now cuz it seems like Rossi has officially been promoted to the first team. If you check on GettyImages, he even had his annual picture taken with the rest of the first team.
After seeing his great performances in preseason, I can easily see him being a part of our deadly trio (Ruud, Rooney and Ronaldo). Hey! all their names start with R too.
So our attack up front looks almost set. I cant really see anyone being added to it unless it was someone special and a powerful striker like Adriano or Drogba (which obviously aint gonna happen) cuz they suit the 4-3-3 formation a lot more. This was also Sir Alex's explanation for not making a move for Owen.

So all we need to make our squad complete would be Cicinho and Ballack. We can forget about Owen and concentrate on those two.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Apparently FIFA have ruled Mikel must return to training in Oslo, but have not ruled on the transfer question. Stupid FIFA. I wonder when they'll actually make up their minds.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

He's staying in Oslo cuz their season starts at a different time. He would have stayed even if the deal was done and dusted. Nothing new here.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Wow nice editing!

Good luck tonight.

Everton arent that easy to beat!

What happened to Ronaldo?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Heinze aint playing either, seems that Oshea is LB.

Why aint Ronaldo or Heinze playing btw?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Heinze is still getting back from offseason, didn't play the preseason with United

Ronalod is hopefully about to come on, I guess maybe they wanted to tire defenses out? I dunno, strange decision, although park has looked pretty sharp IMO.

Poor half though, nicely taken goal by Ruud, and how bout the free kick? Who knew? But Everton defeinitely should have had the lead. We're not passing it around or keeping possession, I'm dissapointed to be honest. Oh well, lets hope second half is better!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

yay, i bet first scorer on Ruud, thank the lord.
