LOL, some people, though, feel their heart is elsewhere- place of birth isn't everything.

or they choose to adopt a much more fashionable "home"

Sadly.

I guess people have their reasons though- however shallow or strange we may think them.

we'll never know, anyway I'm sure Vieira's "bothered" when he's shining his World Cup and European Championships medals....

Isn't Owen originally Welsh?
lol. I'd be surprised if it was true.

Didnt Deco decide to play for Portugal cuz he thought he had a better chance of making the team than at Brazil?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Yes. Kevin Kurani also, and many others.

Certainly is, well not sure if his family originates from there but from what I know he was born there, alot of scousers relocated to north wales so its no biggie....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

We better sign him as soon as possible. Cuz then it gives us more time to possibly focus on another signing like a midfielder for example.

dont think its gonna happen mate, i'd rather we sign jenas anyway...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Yeah I don't rate Jenas. He's young, but hasn't really shown the kind of quality to become a United 1st teamer. He may well be better than Kleb/Djembasquared but that's not really what we're after is it...

Thanks Sulph!

Wow that penalty against Rio was bollocks...worse call than when Saha didn't get one against Fulham last season (wonder if he still harbours resentment at VDS over that ;) )

/QUOTE]

Are you serious, comparing the lad to DJ and klep the pleb is doing him no justice, you've obviously not seen him play, the lads a natural he's just not had the right platform, he played better under Robson than he does Sourness and he'd respond well to Fergie, plus he would nt have to put up with the shite in Manchester that he does up in newcastle.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

No I've seen him play a bit, he's okay, good for a middle-tiered club. But its not like watching Ballack in the confed cup, organising the whole team, or Gerrard in any (almost) liverpool game. Its that kind of quality we need, proven reliability. I think SAF has gambled enough with the midfield, and with not only Keane but Scholes getting up there, someone big needs to come in.

But then again who knows if anyone will. Mourinho's clever, his comment about United having a squad that was very strong already will hopefully not fool SAF into agreeing and not buying anyone else.

You cant see Owen coming?
I dont see him going anywhere other than us or Liverpool and the scousers dont want him.

And I agree with you, beachryan. We have so many players for the future that we have nothing for the present. Over the years, our goalkeeper has changed, our back line has changed, we've changed our strikers and we have Ronaldo in Beckham's position. How long is it gonna take us to replace Giggs, Keane and Scholesy? Sir Alex has built 2 great teams in the past and is in the process of building another one and the three players I mentioned above have been in all them.
I remember Sir Alex once saying that they believe you should only sign players if they are as good as or better than what you already have. Our midfield signings dont really say that.
Not sure why Sir Alex hasnt noticed that. Maybe its got something to do with how he wasted so much cash on Veron and got f*ck all out of him.

United call Rio's bluff

exclusive by stuart brennan
MANCHESTER United are prepared to call Rio Ferdinand's bluff - and even offload him before the end of the month if a reasonable offer comes in.

The defender, still holding out for an extra £20,000 a week on top of the record-breaking £100,000 deal being offered, says he is focussed entirely on the football.

But United's Champions League qualifying game against Hungarian champions Debrecen on Tuesday will be key to Ferdinand's Old Trafford future. Sir Alex Ferguson may be tempted to leave the England player out of the side so as not to cup-tie him for any possible move to one of United's Champions League rivals, and if he does, it will be the biggest sign yet that the Reds are ready to sell the 26-year-old.

The patience of the United management is wearing thin, as supporters continued to boo the player's every touch of the ball during the midweek friendly at Royal Antwerp.

With indications that the Glazer family are not prepared to splash big cash to bolster the Reds' midfield, the signs are that Ferdinand (pictured) will be allowed to leave if he won't budge from his position.

Ferguson is unhappy that the poor relationship between Ferdinand and the fans could hamper his plans to get the season off to a flying start and there are bound to be more catcalls if he play on Tuesday.

And with two years left on his current contract, the £30m buy's value will start to decrease sharply if he is not sold before the transfer deadline on August 31.

But Ferdinand says his mind is set on silver rather than gold, claiming his focus is on giving the Reds a sharp start to the season.

He says that, with the need for a good start in mind, the early start to pre-season training had been accepted without question by the players.

Ferdinand told MUTV: "A lot of people made a lot out of the fact that we came back to training early, saying we weren't happy, but that wasn't the case.

"If you are not successful, coming back to training early is part and parcel of being a footballer, and last season we didn't win anything. We can't afford a slow start with the standard at the top of the Premier League improving every season - last season Chelsea raised the bar and the year before Arsenal did it.

"There is no room for slip-ups and it's important we hit the ground running because we don't want to play catch-up.

"Our preparation has to be right and we feel we are getting it right this year, so we can mount a more serious challenge.

"We have done a lot of running and a lot of technical stuff, and now we can't wait for the season to start. We don't want to end another season without a trophy.

"This season could be even more competitive, with Liverpool possibly presenting a stronger challenge, with the confidence they will get from winning the European Cup."

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Would be a shame to lose Rio, but the constant booing by fans and the less-than-ideal situation with the management is bound to affect his performance. The cash might come in handy too.

Let's hope Pique can cope with regular top-flight football- just in case.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Better sell him for a good price.

Hey sell him to chelsea. You'll probably get the triple of his real value!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Yeah but then Terry and Ferdinand would keep out everyone :P, including united..

Good point. Be good for England though.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Be excellent for England, now that Campbell is being pushed out of the team through injuries, and John Terry...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Do get too excited over the news. Who ever said he'd go to Chelsea if he was available? Mourinho stated that he has "the best defence in the world" and doesnt want a defender like Rio. My bet would be that he'd go to Real Madrid cuz they've just sold Samuel meaning they need a centre half of Rio's ability and star power.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I'd hope Ferdinand would leave the EPL and get experience in another league. I know Chelsea is a step up for the SWPs and the Duffs of the premiership, but a move from United to Chelsea is not exactly career changing. Whereas Spain or Italy would be. But we'll see, I think he'll stay for at least the next year, it would be really great if fans could stop booing him. Actually, it would be better for him to come out in a press conference, state his intentions are to stay and win trophies with United, and that his contract talks will start up again next summer. Why he doesn't do that I just don't know...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

When I talked about Ferdinand going to chelsea I was just kidding. It's something that is near impossible. :p
He is probably doing all of this to get more money from united.
