Totally agree with the start of this, but not the end. At some point you have to agree things aren't going to work out - and with TClevz23 that time is now (or 12 months ago).

We tried, for 3 years more or less to get him to work in our midfield, but 3 years and 3 managers later and he's worse than he was pre that lovely Kevin Davies breaking him.

I think I said last page, I'd rather we'd signed players like Blind and Herrera, kept Danny and come 6th then break all these records, flash our big bollocks everywhere and then still not make the top 4.

Yup, i'm more excited with the signing of blind than i have been with di maria/falcao, undoubtly proven names but blind and herrera isn't as heard of in british media therefore less expectation and the values aren't out of this world.

As a club now, I'm really not so sure the policy anymore as some of the things i loved about united seem to have been completely removed and left to the side to become big spenders in the transfer market. It's unhealthy long term and if we continue this way, it'll be a downwards spiral into trouble.
 
Not sure what to make of all of this. The prospect of Falcao is exciting but it reminds me of the 2003-2006 years where we were relying on an excellent number 9 but had average players in other areas of the squad.

Maybe Januzaj can step up like Ronaldo did in that period and get the new team built around him.
 
Fkin surreal transfer window. I agree with everyone that Im concerned what this means for the long term of Manchester United's manner of doing business but at the same time it is bizarre it took this long to truly reap the benefits of years of insane revenues. In addition; it was clear a major (and this definitely qualifies as such) shakeup was necessary.

I am definitely a bit saddened by the fact so many household names left us recently; Vidic, Rio, Welbeck, Chicha, Evra, Nani and even though we never got to see him much: Kagawa. Welbeck definitely bothers me the most..but..let's face it..Rooney, RvP, Wilson, and now Falcao..not to mention the likes of Mata, Januzaj and Di Maria floating around it ll be tough to fit a Welbeck in there. They say Wilson is the better CF prospect these days but Im still rooting for Danny to do well at Arsenal. I think his speed will fit the Gunners style of play very very well.

Lastly..with us not getting another Mid or CB I can definitely see us going for Strootman now after LvG had time to determine how he s coming back from the injury's he's had. It almost seems to be the only reason I can think of why we did not end up closing the Vidal deal.

Fellaini makes sense..he's injured. The other two however..Cleverley sounds like he had options but didn't leave for whatever reason (all hearsay atm - but rumor is they didn't want to comply with his wage demands) , Ando in all fairness hasn't really had a good run out under LvG and probably doesn't have a lot of interest for him out there so I'd say he likely has til January to prove himself.

p.s. just watched first United interview with Falcao: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQdf0n6hd6M seems like a very nice and kind guy who genuinely wanted to come to United. Wonder what RvP's little boy inside is now thinking? I assume LvG checked with him to make sure he wasn't going to be pissy about Falcao getting the no.9 (tho I doubt it..RvP himself said he wanted to keep the no 20)

Mutd are a different beast... They had to buy and go the foreign route. Arsenal is going w/ mostly British(7) core...strange days. I think Welbeck will enjoy being around his British compatriots being the similar ages.

This would never had happen 'if'
1. Giroud long injury spell
2. Sanogo display at the weekend
2. Falcao going to Mutd

Welbeck will always have a reselling price tag. He needs to play upfront alone and hold the ball. That`s his biggest challenge , he has a excellent work rate from what I`ve seen and heard.

True that..and yes indeed...his work rate isn't the problem but he can't create much for himself in the box and is a bit more dependent than a RvP. I'd almost say he has technical skills that can approach RvP up to the box (but his first touch nowhere near that level imho)..is faster and has the ability to be a better poacher imho. He's the kid you never wanna give up on because he truly shows flashes of brilliance but could obviously use a confidence boost by being promoted to first or 2nd choice CF.

p.s. when you look at these stats comparing Rooney, RvP and Falcao it almost makes you wonder why we need Falcao..but with Chicha and Welbeck off to greener pastures and Rooney and Robin going through cold flashes it makes some sense:

Should be massively excited having made such spectacular signings, but at the moment I just feel massively disapointed at losing an English academy player in Welbeck. Really think this is one we'll regret, for a number of reasons.
 
If your attack gels, you will have no problem scoring goals, I fully expect you to do really well this season.

Just doing a Stoke could be very effective with such a poor defense. But I would expect LvG to sort it out and get the team playing very well in a couple of months. :(
 
I take it Woodward will get some credit for getting you Falcao, Di Maria and some other alleged decent players as everything is down to him as he makes all the transfer decisions on his own?

I have to say I'm a little sad as well with welbeck gone and us not really being Man Utd at all. But then, thinking back, didn't SAF also buy a lot of new players when he came (not at that level/price) and after getting that going, he then turned his focus onto the youth??

While it is the normal way for us to get youth through the ranks and one or two marquee signings in, you do have to say that our youth product isn't that great and it'll take time for LVG to get it back to the top level with the youth system that he loves to implement. And while that is going, to attract youth, sometimes you have to win. To succeed, you have to win as well. Therefore, it's understandable to get these short-term fixes in to get us at the top level and then when we're winning and that's going for us, then we can focus back on youth.

With that said, if we continue to spend like this in January or next summer, i'll definitely not back this team. I love this team because of the philosophy, of the culture...I don't want us to just spend to win.

To a point yes but there was a system in place which ferguson did implement but he has been there for so long, it became the united way, to being savvy in the transfer market and bringing in prospects who can make an impact on the league while mantaining a reasonable transfer spending.

Regardless if it was just 'the ferguson way', we've spent over £200 million since he left which is almost half of £546 million ferugson spent in 17 years which £320 million was recouped of that. Of course clearly show's at how well ferguson did but in todays age, that is how a club should be run as fee's are only going up and it seem's our players prices are only going down. We need to realise, we can't run the club like chelsea or city, that's not how we got here and that's not how we will improve. We need to have a clear infrastructure in place as it doesn't seem to be the case right now.
 
On the other hand, goku has a point about about spending levels during Ferguson's era. He did spend a lot in the latte 80's building the foundations of his 90's team. No-one seems to make an issue of the spending levels in past decades tho (for various reasons) so indepth analysis with comparisons to today probably hasn't been done. For instance, the wealthy Moores family's influence on Liverpool's and, to a lesser extent, Everton's success in the past is never scrutinised. People seem to have aa rose tinted view of football finances of yesteryear
 
Ferguson Spent around £19.93 million til his first title, which was 7 years into his managerial position at united. and brought in 25 players with that, that's not including the beckham, scholes and giggs of this world. Even though that was a lot back then, he brung in numbers and at good price, not buying a player for over there value. That's part of my point, it is financial suicide to buy player's and sell them for half. It will catch up to all club's eventually, all it take's in modern football is for the sugar daddy's to jump out and let the ship sink within moments.
 
Good news RVP doesn't need surgery, for all the talk about Falcao, a fit and firing Robin is as good as it gets.
 
Rojo was fine, quite comfortable but never really tested. Strong in the tackle though reminding me a lot of Heinze.
