Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

But Ronaldo was only 17/18 when he joined and you could see alot of improvement when he turned 20+

I know Nani hasnt been given much of a chance but he his 22 now and besides a few belters of a goals from him, he isnt and I dont think will be half as good as Ronaldo, which is a shame. If Nani didnt improve while Ronaldo was at the club I doubt he will improve much more now that one of his closest pals has moved on. I hope Im proved wrong on this by the way!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He's 22? I thought he was 20 and we signed him at 18 or something. I guess he can still improve at 22 though. Whether he'll still be at our club when he reaches his peak is another question.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Wow, what kind of world has it become when you're 'done' developping at 22! Zidane/Lampard were rubbish then...

Nani isn't going to be as good as Ronaldo - I don't think anyone will be. I honestly believe with his talent and ambition (and work ethic!) Ronaldo will be the best player to have ever played the sport. Too bad about him being a prick, but no ones perfect I guess!

What Nani can become is a very effective, talented winger. And I'd be just fine with that.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I've been as guilty as anyone at bashing him, but if he can keep to the simple things (for now) he could be quite effective. At 22, yes he still has lots of room to develop. But when you see others around him (ie Anderson) doing the business, people are going to question him.

Maybe it was nerves / pressure to blame for his poor season, as he seemed OK in his first. He is more than capable of putting in a good cross & corner, and we all know he's willing to shoot from anywhere. He just needs to look up and see that there are other people around him!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah I hope Nani can really push on, he's certainly got the skills and he's capable, its just the drive and decision making that lets him down.

I read somewhere recently that Anderson was just another one of SAF's ridiculously expensive but piss poor signings along with Nani and Veron. Bit harsh I thought. I guess he's only won 4 major honours in the 2 years he's been with us though!

I can't wait to see what we do in the transfer window, though I do get the feeling it could be like 95/96 all over again when we sold Ince, Kanchelskis and Hughes and went with the younger lads and, well we all know what happened next.. :)

Good point Ryan about it being a win win if we try it and then don't win the league. :TU:

Sorry, but Ronaldo isn't the best player ever and with his selfish attitude and pathetic tantrums he never will be.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

What Ronaldo had, and always has, is his athleticism. Raw athleticism. Sure Nani is fast, but Ronaldo's a freak of nature. I'm yet to see anyone score a header with such viciousness that he scored against Roma in the CL. Unreal that was.

Ronaldo's makes scoring goals easy. Terrifying easy. I never think Nani will have that. He'll be a good winger, but Ronaldo was never a winger anyways. The closest player to Ronaldo in terms of physique, and talent (when we younger) is Babel, and he's just as useless as Nani at the moment.

Cunt he maybe, but he's beyond incredible. The last player who could score goals with such ease as, funnily enough, the real Ronaldo IMO.

Nani might become a good winger (of the level of Simao), but never as good as Ronaldo. Mostly because, I can't even see him developing physically to match Ronaldo.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He grew some fucking wings and flew for that header, I remember just shouting "HOLY FUCK!" when he did it.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah that was a beast of a goal. :WORSHIP:

And about Nani, he's pretty beefy himself though.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

That'd be quality for Utd, can see that happening as well.

Will probably go onto become the BPITW in the future. Gutted as I can't see him moving to us as hes a Liverpool fan :((

It's stupid to even think Nani will ever be as good as Ronaldo.

Nani for me, has the potential to be a very good, maybe like Simao (though I doubt it). He's very average ATM.

Benzema should be the one for you. You need to replace Ronaldo's goals, and Benzema's got potential to be as good as that.

Pretty much except I think he will become as good as say someone like Simao. Thing is people have been spoiled recently with how quickly some talented players have grown and matured like Ronaldo and Messi who both at 21 were amongs the best in the world. Rooney is in the same class as the two above but along with Nani will take longer to develop while Nani is in the bracket below that of talent.

I think with this being hiss first season as a regular we'll see him steadily improve a lot this season. Might even be given the number 7 shirt by SAF to boost his confidence

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Nani LOOKS beefier than Ronaldo in that, but its never as simple as that. Even scrawny kids can be taught how to use their body to shield the ball. Ronaldo is so clever on the ball, and brushes past people, he has an athletic build but its hardly Micah Richards esque.

Nani needs to learn how to use his body. Muscle isn't everything.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

the biggest difference for me between ronaldo and nani is drive and determination, ronaldo wants to be the best player in the world. not like how every player says "i want to be the best one day", he actually believes he can be. ronaldos mentality is much stronger.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Ljajic will be the one who eventually replaces Ronaldo, Gut feeling he will be something special.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Maybe you need more practice at the game then. :P

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Rumours circling around that Lyon have accepted a 38mill pound bid from us for Karim Benzema...The kid is on a holiday and will get to see the details when he returns home by sunday.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

If you read what I said, I believe he can be the best ever, not that he is. No one at his age has accomplished what he has. He's won arguably the toughest league in the world 3 times, won every trophy available to him. Led Europe in scoring from the wing. Scored 42 goals in 44 matches. Won BPITW. And he's still a kid!

More importantly, he trains harder than everyone else, has gone from being a scrawny runt into a ridiculous athelete. He's obsessive about his ego. He barely ever gets injured. He's taller than most footballers, yet also has great balance and is one of the quickest to ever play the game. He scored more freekicks last year than anyone else. He can shoot from 40 yards, and he can goal poach. He is already one of the most dangerous plaers in the world at heading a ball.

Yes he's fairly despicable as a human being, but so is/was Maradona. The onyl thing that can stop Ronaldo from becoming utterly dominant is a serious injury - and that just doesn't look likely. I don't really like him very much, but if you can't see that he is going to absolutely tear apart la liga next year, you don't know anything about football.

(And I believe you can be considered the greatest without winning a world cup - it is still a team sport afterall and you need 10 people to help)

Not that I believe it - but if he has been sold to United without consultation than we're f(cked. How happy would you be?!

This is why I find it harder to agree that Messi is a better player. Ronaldo is a lot more complete even though Messi is more gifted.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Messi has a better attitude, is a better dribbler and is harder to disposess. And he's seems like a nice kid.

Every other facet of being a footballer, Ronaldo wins.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I tend to think of it as Ronaldo can do pretty much everything Messi can, but Messi can't do as much of what Ronnie can do.

As much as I hate to admit, I agree.

Haha, and btw, is there a couple more fit for each other than Paris Hilton and Ronaldo?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Comparing Messi to Ronaldo is like comparing Pele to Maradona, except that now they are on the same era so its easier to speculate. Yet its hard to come to a conclusion.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Ronaldo will tear up La Liga IMO, I seriously believe he might score 40+ again next season. I think the problem will be when he realises that even after scoring that amount it won't amount to much at Real with their defence.

Apparantly Real are now looking at Benzema, I doubt we'd be able to get him if it was a straight choice between them and us.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Why do they continue to advertise Ronaldo in our shirts? It just makes me miss him even more. He even makes our home kit look good.
