Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

I think there are one too many of us with Rooney avatars. That includes you too, Kingpug.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Can't believe Heinze did that much damage with such small amount of contact. Gutted. Good news is that we do have a bunch of internationals who can fill in, and a couple young guns too. What's Pique up to? I had thought he was a better defensive prospect than Bardsley, then just Silvestre over. I think Silvestre is actually a good option, his crossing can be real quality, and he's fast, and probably can't do as much damage with a mistake on the left side rather than hte middle. Richardson scares me, he doesnt' have hte discipline to defend all game. If I were Rafa I'd throw in Cisse and crouch, and force the full backs to mark Cisse while the two centre backs have to contend with the big man.
We'll see I guess, I'm hoping for some goals, we've yet to land many this season...and for Ruud to continue scoring in every prem game :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Well that was pathetic back to 442 PLEASE.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

That was soo boring!! I dont mind drawing with liverpool becuase they are a quality club but when we dont create chances and look as if we are playing for a draw then i cant be happy.

I think i agree with what Wenger said about football in england becoming boring now and teams playing negative. I think its mourinhos fault for introducing boring 1-0 0-0 football to the premiership lol now everyone is doing the 4-5-1 4-3-3 bullshit and its just ruing the game, i was seriously getting tired watching the match on tv i had to entertain myself and read a bit of the sunday newspapers.lol

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

yeah it seems everyone is copying mourinhos safety first, shoot myself in the head before i die of bordom tactics,no wonder fans are being put off.

At least theres a double helping of La Liga on Sky later

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Definitely agree, pathetic match, boooorrrriinnng.

Keano being out will hurt chances in hte prem, but you know what, we don't have great chances anyway. Plus, it'll force fergie tos top relying on him, and hopefully smithy will show wha the can do. or my preference, Park will get a run :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Why are people assuming this was down to our formation? 4-5-1 is the boring formation. 4-3-3 isnt. We just played badly, thats all.

I heard Robben on MOTD yesterday saying how their defensive record gives their attackers great confidence cuz they know they only need to score one to win seeing how they dont conceed.
We're kinda in the same position. We have a great keeper now, our defence is pretty solid, and we seemed to have handled the loss from our injuries quite well. The only difference is that our attack isnt as strong as Chelsea's.
Maybe with Smith being a DM like Keane and the countless holding midfieders we have, its probably better if we look for an attacking centre midfielder now. Thats what we lacked today. We seriously need someone like Ole or Saha back just for the sake of giving us a new dimension in attack.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Very, very boring, very boring.

Only chance my heart almost skipped a beat was with Gerrards curling shot which was saved by VDS and Van Nistelrooys chip.

I hear what your saying and i agree the defensive is more solid and concede less goals doing 4-3-3. But as someone here mentioned before 4-3-3 isnt very penetrating. I dont agree with your claim that our attack isnt as good as chelseas, there is no excuse but the formation for us not scoring enough goals. Any team in the world would like to have choice of van nisterooy 20-30 goals striker along with rooney; deadly striker siilar to Henry who provides strength and power with the ball and also we have C.Ronaldo; with his pace, tricks and crosses. I think thats enough dimension in attack what the hell more do you want?

Chelsea are alot more disiplined and content defending and soaking up pressure with their 4-3-3 formation but with United you can see players talents going to waste defending like that most of the match, id rather United create lots of chances and end up scoring 2-3 goals and concede 1 or 2 goals then see boring 0-0 or scrappy 1-0 with an ocassional 2-0 every now and then. As you said we have great goalkeeper and solid defensive why the hell should we be playing cautious?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

I'm getting so tired of this formation, even when we won our first few games the formation just didn't seem to be right for us, and with the last few results thats showing even more.

I'd love to think that now that keane is out we would go back to 4-4-2, since the only reason we're playing this formation is to accommodate him, but somehow i really doubt we will, and playing 4-3-3 is just not going to cut it for us i dont think.

We dont have the right players in certain positions to make the formation work and we have to play people out of position, just look at scholes and what he has been reduced to in the role he is now forced to play.

I pray that fergie will go back to 4-4-2 so we can bring back the attacking football that we are all used to and that used to bring us so much success but i don't see it happening.

Maybe our midfield is not as equipped as we used to be to play that style of football, but i'd rather go out fighting and scoring goals with entertaining football than trying to sit back and grind out boring 1-0 and 0-0 results each week, that's never what we have been about before and neither should it be now.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Well after 2 bad draws, maybe its time to atleast try out the 4-4-2.

My point exactly. Its a pity we ditched 4-4-2 because it worked very well for us in the EPL it was only in CL when i we had trouble because we threw to many men forward and got caught out on the counter attack. But there was nothing wrong with it in the premiership and we never use to struggle scoring goals, our forwards use to score for fun and battle out who would be top scorer for the season, remember yorke and coal partnership, then van came and was scoring lots of goals in the 4-4-2 system, now he looks isolated with only wingers rooney and ronaldo playing behind him supporting him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Lets face it,not only Ruud looked isolated...Ronaldo was almost lost, especially against Pool...I feel,Ronaldo is almost "chained",he cant do the thing he is especially superb at,that is running at defenders.I'm still at a blur on why Ryan Giggs isnt a non starter now.Bringin back the 4-4-2 would welcome him back plus Ronaldo will get to terrorise the opposing fullbacks again.Smith and Scholes in midfield wont look good on paper but Smith needs time.I do have this sneaky feeling that its all going downhill for us even only after 5 games.I hope I'm wrong.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

I was just thinking recently about football in the premiership and how teams have got to adapt to how the top teams play. For instance when United dominated the premiership early 90s , alot of teams played 442 and it was an exicting time in the EPL lots of goals and lots of unpredicted results and come backs.

When arsene wenger came on to the scene with arsenal in 1996/97, that was a time in the premiership where ther where lots of flair and foriegn players coming to the premiership once arsene wenger started doing it and seein results. Other teams followed.

Now its chelsea's turn to influence the rest of the premiership since they look like they are going to dominate for a few years, watch as teams copy thier style/formation and the norm will be 1-0, 2-0 and 0-0 score lines from now on as teams will try and have to adapt. They thing now in the premiership will be grinding out results, waiting for the opposition to make a mistake, *yawn* its boring just talking about it:)

Yeah :(

Its going to be a sad time in the premiership if this boring chelsea style of football continues to become the norm.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

As our players are dropping like Fly's the big guns are over in Norway:

VG writes that Fergie and David Gill were in Oslo today, and spent about four hours in meetings with FC Lyn, regarding John Obi Mikel.

Fergie is quoted to VG:

"We have a deal with Lyn, have followed John Obi Mikel for three years, and still want him to Manchester United". Lyns chief executive Morgan Andersen expect that it will take another month before the case is finally settled by FIFA.

Its obvious the lad doesnt wanna play for us so I dont know why they persist, still if theres a chance then its worth a go...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

To be fair, if its bringing success, can you blame them?
Sure we also want to see great football but no one would complain if it got you trophies every season.

After thinking about it, I think the reason for our recent poor performances seem to be because we have the players that like to play a more attacking style. But we're using them in a more defensive Chelsea-like formation. Arsenal have a 'you score 3, we'll score 4' type of approach which I think should be the way we should play. Only difference is that we wont let in 3 cuz we have a great defence.
Sir Alex needs to trust the defence to handle themselves and let the team push up as far as possible.

Every now and then we see Chelsea or Arsenal get a 4-0 or 5-1 result. We hardly ever get that. Its kinda embarassing. How can we expect anything when we scrape all of our wins?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

The formation is totally wrong for us, now that Keano is out. Having 3 essentially holding midfielders is just pointless. A good deal of our goals used to come from late runs froms scholsey, he barely gets past the center circle these days. Fletcher has yet to prove he can defend all that well, he may be a luxury we can no longer afford. I like his long balls, and he could come on as sub, but strategically United have to out of this defend and the goals will come attitude. I say 4-4-2 in the first half of the next game, with back four as is (though someone will need to reign in Richardson), a holding pair of Scholes and Smith, Ronaldo and Giggs as wingers, rooney as a very foward OMF and Ruud up front. I mean, teams used to fear us, and with our personnel they should, but if we onl take 2 shots on goal each game, they're going to be happy to throw men foward. And you know what, if we concede a goal, so what, we should manage plenty of chances to take 2.

For the life of me, I cannot work out what Fergie's problem is. And is it true he no longer speaks to mutv after matches? Because they critised him? Blah.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Fergie has got alot to answer for, the players are not happy, they even asked Choccy to have a word with Fergie but he's sticking by Carlos...

This is not good..

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

One thing after another for you lot at the moment but not talking to your own tv station is just silly how long has his vendetta with the BBC been going on for now?

whether it happened pre season or the weekend its not good either way...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

No unrest amongst the ranks is never a good sign! Thought Rooney getting a 2 game Cl ban was a bit hard, Uefa say it was because of multiple instances during the match. Apart form the ref incedent what else did he really do to deserve a extra games ban...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan

Jan deal for Graveson?
Thursday, September 22, 2005

from the SUN, don't dismiss as SAF did say at the branch meeting on Sat we were going to be in the January market, focus unknown...

'THOMAS GRAVESEN could make a shock return to the Premiership in January — at Manchester United. The Real Madrid midfielder quit England a year ago in a shock £2.5million move from Everton to the Bernabeu. Ironically that came just as United were hoping to land him on a free, had he stayed on Merseyside for the remaining few months of his contract. But he has failed to crack a regular place at Madrid and was dumped from the side which lost to Espanyol on Sunday. Now Alex Ferguson is eyeing the possibility of handing Real their money back as he hunts for a midfield anchorman. Everton boss David Moyes had considered a move for Gravesen in the summer and also had him in mind as a mid-season transfer target.'

This would be ideal for us, with Keano out for at least 2months we're gonna need a quality MF, its not a long term replacement but it would be a good addition to the squad...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan

That thread title is misleading Vann. I got excited for a minute. I think you should add a question mark at the end.

Anyway, I agree, He will be a very useful signing. We lost Kleberson (could be considered as gaining something), Djemba (see Kleberson) and Phil Neville. We desperately need a midfielder especially someone like Gravesen who is a decent DM and also a very vocal one too.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

'UNITED are reportedly interested in highly-rated Mexican youngster Giovanni Dos Santos.

The 16-year-old has been dubbed the "new Ronaldinho" and is currently with Barcelona's B squad, but the player's agent has confirmed that United are monitioring him, according to Sky Sports.

Mexican sides Monterry and America are also thought to be interested, as are United's Premiership rivals Arsenal.'

Havent got a scooby who this kid is, his old fella used to play for Brazil, thats all I know for now....
