Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

The problem here is that we now play 4-3-3 meaning Smith would have to be one of the wingers. I cant really picture that happening. I can see Ole playing on the wing but not Smith.
If we went back to 4-4-2 then yes you're right cuz if you remember, when we beat Arsenal at OT 2-0, Smith came on late and went into the right side of midfield exactly like what you're saying. And correct me if I'm wrong but he played there for Leeds a few times too. But like I said, that would require a change in formation.

If we had to stick to 4-3-3, Smith could play on the right on the 3 CMs and in a role where he would attack and defend. I think relying on Smith to defend the way Keane does is a bit risky. There were times in the Villareal game where he was chasing an opposing attacker and tried to stop him with a slide tackle and completely missed. He seems to over used the slide tackle IMO. So stick him in a role where he doesnt have to defend all the time is what I suggest which is were Essien is playing atm for Chelsea.

The problem is this new "system" fergie has handed over the majority of 1st team coaching to Carlos, who like Mourinho has a different philosophy to football than we are used to at OT.

after being at OT for so long with a succesful way of doing things why fergie has changed the way we play is both baffling and frustrating, I know why he's done it but it cant be justified, even players are saying they wanna get back on track in The Prem and europe is a bonus.

consequently we are stuck with all these problems in the MF and our attacking players are not being allowed to express themselves in a way previous players at the club have been allowed, can you iamgine Cantona playing in this system, we would have had no cole/yorke partnership.

somethings got to give!

I remember that one-two-one-two in the 99 champions league, against Barca i think in that 3-3 draw.. class.

those we're the days....

gotta love ya avi, Vida............class ass!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

What system would you lot rather see like?. Mine would be:

GK: van der Saar
CB: Rio
CB: Silvestre
LB: Heinze
RB: Neville
DMF: Keane
LMF: Giggs
RMF: Ronaldo
OMF: Scholes
ST: Rooney
CF: Ruud

Don't know about anyone else, but I think 4-4-2 diamond is more attacking than the 4-3-3 shite, having the OMF make runs forward is alot better, and seeing as the OMF happens to be Scholes, you can expect some piledrivers from outside the box.

I just don't see why people use 4-3-3, not only is it boring as hell but I don't even think it works. I would never choose a formation without an OMF.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

I would expect him to play in-front of the OMF and behind Ruud, either that or he can swing onto the wings, get the ball and cut in/pass it.

Thats EXACTLY what he does.
What you see when the formations are shown isnt exactly how our team plays.
As for a diamond formation that you suggested, thats a bad idea for our squad. Cuz we would have an OM and two wingers like Giggs and Ronaldo plus 2 strikers meaning everytime we got hit on the counter attack, Roy Keane is the only one in midfield who can defend.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

As your on the formation subject a read this in a article a couple of weeks ago:-

'The trouble with 4-3-3 is that if Rooney and Ronaldo come deep to defend or cover, your lone striker can get isolated,' Ferguson said.

'We used to play 4-4-2, with one player just behind the striker, because it gives you more options, more threats, but 4-3-3 makes the best use of the players we have.

'It keeps Ronaldo and Rooney forward, where they do most damage, and gives us more points on the pitch from which to attack.

He added: 'Manchester United just can't play defensively. The fans would not stand for it. It's just not United. This club has a kamikaze streak, which in a funny way, I rather like.

'We can go 5-0 up against Chelsea in an FA Cup game, as we did in January 1998, and you're on the touchline, thinking, 'Go on, give us 10'.

'And before you know it, it's 5-3 and we're scrambling and kicking balls out of our penalty area in desperation.'

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

We're just too hard to please.
But nowadays we just want a win and we're find it hard to get that.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Ouch that b a sore one for United I think, Heinze is a solid player at the back and I dont know how United are going to copewith out him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

WTF?!?!? Most of the season?
The title is already drifting further and further away already.

Why do we always get injuries like these? Teams like Chelsea never hae the problem. Do you ever see Lampard injured? Makalele? Terry? (I know he was injured recently but hardly missed any games for Chelsea)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

FUCK!! I knew this was gona happen, its so fucked up.

Keane,Brown,Saha,Sojskear,Neville,Forutune and now Heinze are all out.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

I wish I had a big OWNED picture but couldn't find one, anyway this is bad news :D

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

The thing is with all these injuries and coming back from two draws from our last games I really cant see us getting past Liverpool to easily. They are looking difficult to beat this season and wouldnt bet against liverpool getting a result against us.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Richardson. Who's actually a winger.

This is all f*cked up now. We dont have our left back or our right back. And we have Keano missing.

We're gonna have a tough time defending.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

I used to think Oshea was a LB, now I even wonder, is he R/L footed?

Why not slot Silvestre into LB? Or give Pique a chance, he is never going to become a top player if he never gets a game.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Feck me thats bad news for Heinze, how feckin unlucky is he, and during the world cup year aswell.

Although we're lacking expereince in that dept with both neville and brown out we do have cover, for me i'd put Bardsley @ RB and Sheasy @ LB (although on his current form he needs to shape up!)

As someone else put, I wouldnt mind seeing young Pique at CB and play Silvestre @ LB.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Its a massive blow for us.Of all the back 4,Heinze is the only real player we can count on to give us nothing but 100%,hes a warrior.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Bardsley looks the most feasible option to me, wouldn't really want to split Ferdinand and Silvestre up. Very good together in the middle on the most part, even if Mikael makes me want to gauge my eyes out at times.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

I said we should've bought another defender during the summer btw.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Defence wasnt a priority at the time. We needed a new gk and a midfielder.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Whens Brown due back? If or when he does id like to see him partner Rio in the middle and move Silvestre to LB. Hes the most natural replacement in that position rather than sticking someone who isnt suited to the position.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

I agree. But I dont think Brown will be back for a while.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

I'm having doubts over beating the mickeys now at their own backyard with our depleted squad.I'm going for a 1-1 draw.
