Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Derby Week, Dont ya Love It!!!

I also gave City a chance(see quote).

Villareal are gonna be difficult to beat. I have a feeling Forlan will score and it will be a draw.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Derby Week, Dont ya Love It!!!

I think today was an example of how much we need our best team out there to get the job done.

Smith is obviously not ready for Keano's position. He can play in midfield but only if its alongside Keano. And without Gary Neville, we dont really have a decent replacement on the right. Gary can attack and defend very well which is hard to find from someone else in our squad.

The positives were VDS who made some brilliant saves and is definately looking like our best keeper since the great dane. And the other was Park who is really looking like a good signing. Its only a matter of time before he scores.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Derby Week, Dont ya Love It!!!

park just needs to be more selfish. I thought keane should of come on to protect our 1-0 lead.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Derby Week, Dont ya Love It!!!

I agree. Keane should have come on at half time seeing how any goal conceeded in the second half could easily hold the match to a draw.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Derby Week, Dont ya Love It!!!

Park definately needs either more confidence or just to be a bit more selfish as Alucard said. That's a fair few times now he's tried to set someone else up when he's had a good shooting chance. Mind you- some of the shots he has had haven't been brilliant but the same can be said for anyone (In fact, mostly i'm thinking of Lampard- he scores a reasonable amount but has many, MANY shots off-target too)

EDIT: Should add though that i'm impressed with him, works very hard and has some good natural talent.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Derby Week, Dont ya Love It!!!

positive : Ruud's confidence should be high seen as how he scored again

negative: we didn't win and we conceded

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Derby Week, Dont ya Love It!!!

Thanx for your in depth evaluation, Matherto. lol.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Derby Week, Dont ya Love It!!!

Yeah, with club and country Ruud's gotta be close to the highest scorer in Europe so far this season. Bodes well. Although, I'm waiting for his first 2002/3 style hat trick before I finally believe he's back to his best. So far he hasn't really lookd like it, only had 1/2 chances a game, albeit he's taken them.

Park definitely has tons of potential, but until that potential turns itself into goals and wins, I'm still dubious about him playing before giggs and Ronaldo. Who hopefully will be back for pool, apparently not before. Its terrible, I feel awful for him, wonder if football will help him get over things or be too painful.

Anyway, I was pretty worried pre-city match, didn't have a good feeling about it, so I guess a draw isn't too bad. Although, Chelsea don't look as though they're about to start drawing games soon, much less lose, so it's all a bit discouraging. But United will stick around, and hopefully the two of them will be far above all others in hte table. Hopefully.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Derby Week, Dont ya Love It!!!

Given the loads of energy Park Ji Sung has,I'd love to see him in the middle of the park amongst the midfield trio,he'd be like an itch that wont go away for opponents i tell you.I believe we will see the best of Park very soon, why and how you ask? Its because his best pal Lee Yong-Pyo has moved to London! Park aint lonely no more, hahaha but its a fact thou,it really helps in settling them down.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Derby Week, Dont ya Love It!!!

Speaking of Lee, saw him on MotD- he's pretty good!

It's nice to see that the South Koreans are good players- I always sack all my expensive players and replace them with better, cheaper South Korean players in pro evo/winning eleven! :) :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Derby Week, Dont ya Love It!!!

Our Blue cousins receive national recognition for being a classless bunch of tossers.

Paul Wilson in The Observer:

‘Finally, though, it ought to be recorded that City fans did not just interrupt the minute's silence for Noel Cantwell, they did so with a reference to Munich. Lovely people.’

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Derby Week, Dont ya Love It!!!

UWS:

city for once disgraced themselves only off the pitch as their team stoically defended for 90 minutes hitting us only on the break. But even so, how come we only scored once?

When a minutes silence was announced there wasn't a red in the ground that didn't have mixed feelings. One was of trepidation for we knew the stockport misfits wouldn't have the courage or class to keep it, the other feeling was one of 'well at least they'll show themselves up'. Sadly for the first time in an age it wasn't live to a tv audience to see what utter cunts they really are.

I guess shouting 'Munich' through the silence could only be expected. Their songs, littered with references, including their regurgitated 'he's not Munich anymore' to Andy Cole - sung at anybody with any association with United - is tiresome and really laughable to our new generation of fans who don't remember the disaster. The fact that it's sung by poorly clad moustachioed middle aged men on their way home, via the pub, to beat their wives no doubt to try and give some kind of meaning to their classless existence, is the sad part. Men thinking right wing politics the answer to their self made ills. Men cowering behind police when leaving the stadium but 'bravely' shouting abuse at people making their way home with not interest in them. Fine examples (sic) of humans that inhabit the satellite towns of our magnificent city. Scum.

On the pitch city the team were an organised and disciplined outfit who though defended resolutely, rarely looked in trouble. As the game progressed, with our midfield looking like Rusholme at Eid, busy bustling full of endeavour, colour and spirit, we were left wondering just where the width we'd need for the breakthrough was. It was a thought we held throughout the game.

Our one goal came on the stroke of half time thanks to Ruud's sharpness; their late effort a result of our defence sleeping as van der Sar made an excellent save. It wasn't his best however. That was to come with almost the last kick of the game as city stretched us as we looked for a winner. If it had gone in, Fergie thought it would have been an even bigger injustice than the draw city secured. But in reality we had ourselves to blame for not killing a game we controlled, and the reason for that was a lack of width, wit and wisdom. Rather like a city fan.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Not really a fair comment when i heard hundreds of United fans take great plesure in what Joey Barton brother had done and some of those comments were just as sick and pathetic....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Reuters on Villareal team news
Monday, September 12, 2005

'Villarreal's Argentine playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme is doubtful for Wednesday's Champions League Group D clash at home to Manchester United after straining his ankle at the weekend. Riquelme was forced to leave the pitch in the 25th minute of his side's 1-1 draw at home to Sevilla on Sunday after receiving a blow on his right ankle. Villarreal's chief of medical staff Juan Alborch said it would be "very difficult" for the 27-year-old international to recover in time for Wednesday's match.'

that will be a bog loss for them, but we also have Ronaldo missing so lets not feel too sorry for them...

Indeed, I'm sure any and every team has undesirable 'supporters'.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

RONALDO SET FOR SURPRISE RETURN
Manchester United travelled to Spain for the Champions League clash with Villarreal with Cristiano Ronaldo in their party but without captain Roy Keane.

While Ronaldo has returned from compassionate leave and declared his availability for Wednesday night's Group B clash, Keane reported a slight hamstring strain in training and, with Sunday's Premiership trip to Liverpool looming, Sir Alex Ferguson opted not to risk his veteran skipper.

His absence means Alan Smith is almost certain to continue in central midfield as United look to open their European campaign with three points in what Ferguson believes will be the toughest fixture of a group which also includes Benfica and Lille.

Ronaldo's creativity was badly lacking in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City on Saturday, although with Ryan Giggs and Park Ji-Sung also in Ferguson's squad, the Portuguese winger is by no means certain to start.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Could be a tough game tomorrow especially with your so so record against Spanish opposision, Riquelme's back for them so Smith needs to have a big game!

Player claims we were after him
Tuesday, September 13, 2005

Lyon midfielder Florent Malouda

"There was an interest from Manchester United. But my option at the moment is not to favour foreign a move - it is not the right moment. If this season I can prove on the pitch that I am able to join those great clubs, and if with Lyon it doesn't go smoothly, we will see. At the moment I don't want to be disturbed with that. I will take stock after the first round of Champions League. If I have choices to make, I will make them in time."

I dont get why these players come out and say this after the transfer window has been closed, its stupid and irrelevent now.lol

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Not too sure about tonite, we dont do to well in Spain.

Maybe with Villa being new to the CL (like Betis last night) the step up might be too much, they arent really in form (one point from first two games) and as their games against everton showed they dont respond well to pressure.

But they could rise to the occasion....

Fergie on Smith tonight
Wednesday, September 14, 2005

"Saturday was a difficult game to gauge him on, simply because he did not have anything to do. It was just a matter of tidying up things from the back four and passing the ball into forward positions. Tomorrow will be a bigger test for him because Riquelme is a very dangerous opponent. Everything goes through him. He is very skilful and controls the Villarreal tempo. Stopping him will be more of a challenge and it will be interesting to see how it works out."

still not 100% whether Riquelme is playing but if he does thats gonna be a key battle.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Riquelme should play. Last reported was that he was passed fit. I hope he does play so its a good match contest wise for our players. Smith should gain some valuable experince playing against him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

GO MAN UTD!!!! lolz....Forlan wants to come back??? what the...lolz, i do agree that man utd didn't give him enough chances, but...do we need him?? lolz

it will either be valuable experience or make fergie rethink his midfield plans...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Loan star shits on the sheep!!

Eagles gets winner for Sheffield Wednesday against Lids..

1-0 win and a good free kick too apparently.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

I hope Riquelme doesnt play the full game. He's there most important player by far. A MUTV news reporter who is gonna be doing the commentary for the game, said that in his opinion, Villareal without Riquelme is arguably a bigger loss than Man Utd losing Keane. All set pieces are taken by him, he sit in front of the back four AND plays behind the two strikers (dont know how he manages that). And Forlan said in a recent interview that 75% of his goals come from Riquelme. He's the real danger man here.
Smith is gonna have a tough game. But a great test for him.

Not just Smith, Van Der Sar as well, because we can't defend....

I think we're better at defending than people give us credit for...

maybe i'll rethink that after tonites game...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Same team as Saturday, Ronaldo in for Park....

VDS

sheasy, rio, silvestre, heinze

fletch, scholes, smith

ronaldo, ruud, rooney

still unsure about Roman playing for Villa

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Half time now,I've finally come to conclusion that our 4-3-3 is NOT very penetrative.Chances created are few and far between. If we dont capitalise those chances made,it will cost us games. What a superb save again from VDS,he will definitely save games for us.Lookin at the way this game is bein played I'm only looking at a solitary goal victory over Villareal.I hope I'm wrong.
