Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

From now on, this emoticon will be known as "The Rooney":
:applause:

Ok seriously, that was a bad decision from the ref. Looked liked to me that he just wanted to make an example out of him.

Overall I thought the two central midfielders (Smith and Fletcher) and O'Shea were the reasons why we arent attacking as well as we all expect.
Center midfield is still a priority for us. And we missed Gary's crosses.
VDS saved it for us. We easily could have been down by 2 or maybe 3 goals if it wasnt for him.

All isnt lost though. A draw away in the CL is always considered a good result. We just need to make sure we get them back in the OT encounter.

great match

Sorry, I couldn't help it. ;)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Funny you should say that csaunders,I was sayin throughout the game that Sheasy didnt look comfortable AT ALL last nite.Poor control, poor passing and he isnt just the player he supposed to be.I think Sir Alex should take a look at Phil Bardsley now.Bout the match last night, both teams deserved a point each.Villareal was without their main man Riquelme and we were without ours in Keano, plus,we were without Gaz and Giggsy too.We lost Gaby half and hour into the game and I hope its just a precautionary measure to not aggravate the injury.Rooney needs to learn this lesson and stick it in his head, its just plain stupidity.Eriksson was there last nite in spain and it didnt do Rooney any good after his sending off.I think Alan Smith did well in that holding role and I suppose Eriksson was looking at him? Definitely worth a second look as currently in the England midfield, nobody wants to stay back and do the dirty job.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Rooney deserved it, not even a minute before the yellow card he did a challenge which shoulda been yellow anyway, and doing that to the ref is retarded, did you honestly expected the ref to laugh and walk away?

Overall it was a shit match, no team could attack imo.

Forlan hahahaha, amazing, the guy played so well, 95% of his passes connected, albeit they went to the UTD players instead of Villareal, but good passing nonetheless. Half the time it looked like he couldn't be arsed moving so he just passed the ball to UTD, unreal.

Ah well, poor game, Rooney deserved the red, but still, he hasn't got a temper, has he? :D

And I forgot to add, Ruud = diver, such a dirty player really, maybe if he actually tried to run with the ball instead of falling over like a bit paper he could do alot more. Ronaldo dives a bit aswell but he attempts to make runs, Ruud gets the ball and drops to the floor, Pires style.

I think it is a soft sending off my Kim Milton Nielson will never stand for any shit and the palyers should really be aware of that!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Rooney is a disgrace, he has let his team and himself down again. Lets hope he learns from this (i doubt it) so by the time the World Cup comes around his temperament doesn't cost his country.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

It will be interesting to see how Rooney plays in his next game.

Interesting i see no big headlines on van persies sending off. Im sure its something like his 3rd/4TH sending off for arsenal. Also wasnt he kept in jail for few days on suspicion for rape charges but hear nothing of this guy in the press!

Rooney on the other hand gets his first sending off in a red jersey and the whole world acts like he has just murdered someone! Yes it was stupid of rooney to react like that, but im sure hes not the only player to have done that and he wont be the last it happens in football, i seen lots of players do sarcastic motions like that to a referee but they usually get warned. But it was dinosaur head referee last night who loves sending off united players.

People just make big deal out of it coz they want to make rooney out to be a loose cannon who cant control himself, but the guy only has one sending off to his name for United and none for England. What chracter would you prefer? Micheal Owen who says all the right things so the media doesnt say anything bad about him, doesnt really show passion anger when losing always calm and good boy even when things dont go well Or Wayne Wooney whos always determinded, doesnt care about the media and shows fight and passion on the pitch showing that he cares?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

How can you be susprised people always mention when Rooney does soemthing wrong, he is English and also a member of the English national team, what would you rather read about in the morning:

"Rooney gets a red card"

"van Persie see's red"

Now anyone who doesn't know football will be saying, van Persie?. Who the fuck is he?

Yet for Rooney, it is just common sense really, even his gf is/was in the papers alot, even my mum knows who Rooney is.

And Rooney gets sent off for doing stupid things, what did van Persie do, go for the ball?. Hardly a headline:

"Player gets sent to the dressing room for going for the ball"

Where as

"English international teenager Wayne Rooney see's red for taking the piss out of the ref"

If you expect the papers to make a big deal out of every sending off that happens in football then christ, they will need a new paper.

As I said, papers are all about attracting customers, and Rooney see's red is alot better than saying van Persie see's red, for the above reasons.

And I am pretty sure I read about what happened with van Persie in the paper.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

I dont know how you lot a praising Smiths performance, he was terrible again. He kept diving into the tackle and ended up coming away with nothing, Know ive got nothing against Alan Smith the forward apart from he doesnt score enough goals, but he cannot play that postion!

I think the thing with Rooney is his so far indescretions have yet to hurt his team seriously, Im sure if last night episode had happened in a Cl semi final where you needed to win peoples opinions may be different. A La beckham!?

I understand the papers have got to make headlines and choose which is best. Van persie in the past has been sent off for headbuttin, reckless challenges etc. Im sure the press in holland and football pundits over there are not making van persie out to be some raping compulsive lunatic.

Rooney has been in the papers for stupid things eg getting angry with refs, swearing while celebrating(just coz sky sports picked it up it was a crime to swear celebrating) big deal every weekend you see players getting angry with referees. Then it gets into peoples minds that Rooney is a dirty player which he isnt when was the last time you see rooney go in two foot tackle or head butt, elbow anyone in the premiership?

He is just very passionate and shows his emotions when on the pitch like any human being should be doing, what you expect him to be some robot with no charisma like say owen?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

I just thought it was hilarious. Certainly lit up what was a drab game.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

lol last nite was what most people we're wating for and that is backed up by the same people talking the same shite on here....

if last nite was example of rooneys "temper" then im still not convinced.

Yes it was silly and petulant but not violent, which is what people I know with a temper are like..

So its his second sending off in his career, yes its nothing to be proud of but compared to his some of peers he's a saint...

If like Van Persie or Joey Barton he had a history of violent behaviour then I would be the first to say the lad has a problem but Rooney's problem isnt that he is "raging bull" (which is how one reporter described him) his problem is that he young and daft, which I have no problem with cos he'll grow out of that, like Beckham did...

So Im not condoning his actions last nite but im not jump onto this "rooney has a violent temper" bandwagon....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Look, having a temper doesn't mean you are violent, go look up the dictionary for temper, the lad has a temper, along with a billion other people, it is nothing to be ashamed of so I ain't got a clue why you carry on denying he has one, christ.

Exactly, he is young and daft, which is most likely why he never gets booked much, because we all know it is just his age, as you said he will grow out of it, but out of what?. Considering you keep denying he has a temper what do you mean?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Quite true compared to Barton's off the field activitys Rooney is a angel!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Thats exactly what I'm trying to get across. OK he got a red card and maybe he did deserve it for whatever reason. But it wasnt for being violent. He doesnt like to release his frustrations on the opposition or anything.
He just doesnt like the refs decision, thats all.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Other than the rooney incident the game was a non-event, after seeing Villa against Everton I thought they'd go for it but suprisingly they we're pretty cautious, which is fair enough but in the CL you've gotta win your home games....

We struggled to break them down but thats been our story for the past couple of seasons...

Anyway, a point away from home in the CL is okay, especially with 10 men, I wouldnt have taken that at the start of the match but in the light of things its a decent enough result..

Shame about Heinze, thats him Keano and Neville missing for Sundays game and you need those sorts of players at anfield...

Or Van Persie on the field (never mind the rape charge)...

Like I said earlier he was stupid no one can deny that but maybe these people who think he has a temper have led sheltered lives cos where im from what rooney does is feck all, if he was headbutting or elbowing people in the face when provoked then i'd be the first to say...

His team mates Keane and Smith for me have "tempers" and have done things during their careers that if Rooney did then, again, I would be the first to put my hand up and say the kid needs his head sorting out..

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Lets just put this behind us. He's only banned in Europe anyway and that game is against Benfica. Hopefully we wont even need him.

I'm kinda worried about not having Keano for the Anfield game. He's gonna be missed. I hope we dont bring a "cautious" approach and really have a go on the attack. But with players missing I dont see that happening.

yeah you need players like heinze and keano in those games but apart from midfield we match and better them in every department, unfortunatley its the MF where games are won and lost and lfc have an abundance of talent in that area.....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Im more concerned about heinze to be honest, it looked like it could be serious injury, it looked like he done ligament damage. He is going to have scan today and hopefully its nothing more than a bruise on the knee or something minor.

Alan Smith=Claudio Reyna, so not sure why your dissing smith, him and reyna play VERY similar in the position, difference is, Smith can actually blister one by the keeper, claudio goes side to side and back, rarely can get the ball forward with any meaning, exactly what smith has done in the last two games.... and jamie mack, this is comming from me, who loves claudio!!

smith is committed in his tackles etc but you have to be a very tidy player in that position and smith just isnt good enough in MF, i'd play him on the right but CMF is postiton that you have to be a natural at IMO.

Renya isnt gonna set the world alight eiter but he is a natural MF.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Bring on the mickeys!!

Rooney is a massive talent. He is also a massive fool. It's obvious the kid has a temper and cant keep himself in check.

He is frustrating as hell, cuz on one hand he would rather die than lose and will fully commit to fighting for a win on the pitch. On the other hand, he pulls stupid stunts like shoving keepers out of bounds, retaliating on players with stupid tackles, and then arguing with anyone - including refs and captains.

Someone already said it here, and i agree - he won't be publicly hung over these antics until it really costs them

Thats exactly what I was thinking. IMO, our midfield trio should be Scholes and Smith ALONGSIDE Keano instead of replacing him.
Scholes would be our OM, Keane would be the DM while Smith would be playing in a sort of Essien role where he would attack AND defend. He definately has the energy for it and I can easily imagine him doing so well there.

hhhmm maybe, I meant more of RMF, like how Ole played for us.

the sort of technique needed to be a quality MF isnt something you can just learn IMO, smith has quality no doubt and he might grow into the role but ive seen nothing as of yet to convince me.
