Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?
OK. Heres the formation I'm talking about. Its pretty straight forward where everyone plays. Before people start asking why some of those players are playing in those positions, let me explain.
First of all, we have three at the back. Its obvious that Heinze should be playing in a more central role. He plays in this exact position for his country and does well for them so theres no reason why he cant for his club. The defender in the middle is Silvestre. I couldnt put him on the right cuz he's left footed. Couldnt play him on the left cuz Heinze was there. And Silvestre is taller than Heinze so playing him in the center is the best idea. Rio plays on the right on the three. Firstly because he's right footed and secondly because Heinze can only communicate with Silvestre since they both know French. Having Rio in the middle would mean that he's literally getting in the way of the communication. So thats the back three.
Now on to the midfield, Keane and Scholes play in the exact same position they've been playing in 4-4-2. If it aint broke, why fix it, right? The only problem with the DMF position is that it needs cover. The only possible signings I can think of is Gravesen. Just has to be someone that can tidy the place up at the back. Scholes would play in the centre but without having to make his runs into the box as often (explained later). So he's more or less playing in the Makalele/Pirlo position. Which is basically what he's been doing ever since Rooney arrived. So nothing new here. Possible replacements would be Smith, Fletcher, Miller, etc. Basically a CMF that we dont have to expect so much from. Essien would have fitted in here perfectly.
Next, the wingers. Notice that the wingers are wing backs and not actually the normal attacking wingers that most teams play. I'm talking Cafu and Roberto Carlos style wing backs. The ones that attack and defend at the same time. Gary plays on the right cuz he's tailor made for this. The only other existing player that would play here is Ji-Sung Park. Park is a good tackler and a good attacker. Only problem with him is that he likes to do short passes rather than crosses. But that different option is good for the team sinc we have other crossers in the team. If we had to go elsewhere, Cicinho would have been perfect. On the left we have Giggs. Giggs has shown many times that he could defend. For cover, we have Richarson and Fortune. Dont really see a reason why we would want anyone else for this position. The last midfield position is OMF which is just behind the two strikers. This is definately Cristiano Ronaldo's best position. He has proved that with Portugal and he recently said on MUTV that its the postion where he would ideally like to play for both Club and Country cuz it accommodates his skills. When he's not playing, Park could also play here.
I dont really have to explain what the strikers do. Except Rooney who can now play with his back towards the goal a bit more often cuz Ronaldo is doing most of the work he used to do. And whenever players are tired, theres always Saha and Solskjaer that you can bring on.
This has been well thought out and I'm pretty sure it would work. Sure it would take time to adjust to it but once it clicks, it will destroy teams. The thinking behind this is that at first it might look like a risk to swap a defensive player for an attacking player but if you think about it, with the extra attacking force, we might not need to defend. Its the mentality that Brazil use. Offence is the best defence.
Might sound like a load of BS to most but interesting to others.
Thats enough from me. Good night.
