Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I'm scrounging for highlights, eagerly awaiting an update of mutv.com. The homepage actually says highlights are there, but they're not...yet.
The first half is worrying, sounds like our season last year. Dominate, miss chances. How did Smithy hold up in the second half? And Park?

On a side note, how were the matches on ITV? I thought that mutv had some exclusivity or something...guess not!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Smith played well in DM. Made lots of tackles there too.
Seeing Ruud miss those few chances did start to remind me of last season. But like I said, they had a very good keeper plus they had better fitness than us.
Plus Ruud only played 45 mins so we wont ever know if would have scored in the second half.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

They had a very good keeper?
The man couldnt even kick past the halfway line.

What does kicking past the halfway line got to do with anything?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Part of being a good goalkeeper is being able to do good goal kicks

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

He had quite alot of time to do it too, but decided to do a 1 timer and missed the defender.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

But still dont understand how that instantly means he cant do good saves.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

If you look at our youngsters now, you can clearly see how much they've developed. Maybe we dont need any more signings.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Sir Alex the other day was giving out glowing reports on his starlets, especially Gerard Pique. He seems really confident that Pique will definitely start alongside Rio sometime this coming season.I can already see Pique being picked ahead of Silvestre. Its Pique,Rossi,Richardson and Jones for graduation this term for me!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Seen the highlights now and you were average agaist a below average team! Smith definitly suprised me! he looked quite good but the proof will come when he comes up agaist another established DM! What do you lot make of the bust up with keane and fergie?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I think its BS. Stories like those always show up with Sheva being the last one.

And I wouldnt say HK were an average team. Their last game before that was against Juventus where they drew 2-2 and won on penalties. Plus their goalkeeper was their country's player of the year. And they were half way into their season meaning they've had much better preparation and fitness levels.
And we still managed to leave with a 2-0 win which is a respectable result.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Well actually, Juventus had a lot of junior players playing. The only ones that i saw in the first half were the likes of Nedved, Del Piero and Zebina, the others were not so impressive.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Well we had juniors like Rooney. ;)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I guess it could have easily been 4 or 5 if Van had been on form.
When Real Madrid were here last year they beat Kitchee 6-2 or 6-1 or something, i cant recall.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Thats true. Ruud missed too many. Makes you think if Ruud can still do it.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Rooney hasn't scored in preseason yet has he? I'm a little surprised/worried about that tbh. He should be smacking them in against weaker opponents. Oh well, all in good time I guess, can't have everyone getting the goals ;)

I see Arsenal are going to get Baptista, and possibly Chelsea will still get Essien, and meanwhile we'll get...oh wait noone, why bother with transfers anyway :(...

We should buy Owen as Real have Robinho now!

Dont know who agrees with me?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Our players have only been playing 45 mins each and whenever Rooney is playing, no one hardly scores in that half cuz he's usually played with the slightly weaker XI. And he isnt really playing up front either. He sort of plays in the Scholes position.

I agree. I've agreed to this for a loooooooong time.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Robinho deal isnt done yet! Something about the Brazillian football association wont let Robinho wave his 40% of the deal and Real have to up the bid!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I still don't get all the Owen talk. But enough people are doing it that it must make sense. I guess now that Smith is not going to be upfront, we'd need another striker, but if he's not happy on the bench at Real, why happier in rainy old trafford on the bench? Unless Rooney/Owen/Ruud can all play together. Which is just plain scary ;)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I see Rooney as more of an offensive midfielder. We only have 2 out and out strikers who are Saha and Ruud. I'd rather have Owen and Ruud.
And with the amount of extra games we have in the season, we can easily have both playing on a regular basis or maybe even together cuz Rooney sometimes plays on the wing.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Don't take this the wrong way (and i'm sure someone will), but Ruud hasn't looked all that great for a little while now, a new striker could help- either providing a quality alternative for when RvN's form is bad, or maybe just make RvN play better to fight for his place. Rooney prefers, and seems to play best, sitting more in offensive midfield so def agree with RuneEdge there.

In short- i don't think that SAF can afford to keep "automatically" picking RvN as his form doesn't warrant a guaranteed place lately.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Just a thought ,but if we went back to Fulham with saha and a bit of cash do you think we might be able to prise Papa Bouba Diop away from them? Every game i saw him play last season he looked immense.Big, strong in the tackle and a wicked shot on him.He could be the replacement for Keano we've been looking for, and a Shitload cheaper than Essien.Would also get an injury prone striker of the wage bill and open up a possible move for Owen, who IS a proven premiership goalscorer.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

maybe a little late, but i like to say (after watching the game at the stadium), i saw what i wanted, along with what i didn't want to see...hahaha

1) Park was GREAT...his passes, his speed, his shots, they are all great!!!
2) Smith at DM...WOW...his tackles, his passes...they were great!!! way better than Kleberson...(in my POV) lolz
3) HK Keeper...hahahaha, he was great in the first half...second half, don't have enough energy to keep up and kicked the ball straight to Fung...hahahaha
4) Edwin VDS was tested once and great save!!! GREAT!!!

didn't want to see
1) Ruud and his missed chances
2) Rossi...hm, little disappointed today...maybe the heat had something to do with it
3) HKG SUCKED!!! well, as expected, they can't shoot nor pass...hahaha

as for Man Utd in the other games...i hope they will do well!!!! i'm sure they will..

P.S. C. Ronaldo is in Beijing i think....ARGH, WHY WASN'T HE IN HKG?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

ronaldo's father is seriously ill, so he stayed behind to see him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

His father was ill which is why he was allowed to miss the first game so he can be with him.

EDIT. You beat me to it, Kenny.
