Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Should be a good match, hoepfully not as dirty as yesterday, and of a better quality to actually test the defence. I'm confident in Ruud, you can't start to treat the strikers like SAF treated the goalies last season. Players need to know if they take a shot and miss they'll still be playing, or else they'll never hit a shot with confidence. Anyway, he may have blazed a shot wide in Beijing, but he still looked lively, and his first touch and movement are still impeccable. I'd like to see him and Saha partnered again up front, have they played together since Saha started being injured last year? The two of them in the middle awaiting crosses is sooo much more dangerous than playing Rooney behind Ruud. Plus you still have Scholes to follow, and hte other wing to come in. If United are going to concentrate on wing play (as having Ronaldo/Park suggests) then they need to load the box more.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Thats true but Sir Alex plays with a more defensive and cautious approach. Which is why he prefers an extra midfielder instead of a second striker now.

We never start a game with 4-4-2, we only use it when we're struggling which is stupid cuz its too late then.

'bout time I started using a avatar. Kinda crap though.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Get one from a different source, at least it wont say GETTYIMAGES across it.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Funny pic rune..but Rooney isnt that short rite? How tall is he exactly? I've also had this feeling that Smith is actually 1.78m tall,Scholes is 1.73m and Rooney 1.8m? At least thats how tall they are in my WE8LE...

Anthlers 2 - 1 Man Utd

SHAME ON YOU BAD LOSER !!!!!!!
Rooney, Ruud :puke:

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Kashima Antlers 2 - Man United 1

First Half XI: Howard,Ferdinand,G.Neville(Silvestre,45th),O'Shea(Bardsley,78th),P.Neville,Jones(Smith,45th),Kleberson,Miller(Rooney,45th),Giggs,Ronaldo(Park,70th) & Saha(v.Nistelrooy,60th).

Not quite the final score I was expecting but thats what it is.First lost for United in their Asian Tour.Deploying the 4-3-3,Sir Alex brought in a new midfield trio for this game.Aside from Jones,Kleberson and Miller didnt really protect the backline or contribute in attack, its disappointing really.Ronaldo was playing to the crowd the whole time and the Japs loved him.Kashima Antlers broke the deadlock through M.Motoyama whom unleashed a spectacular left-footed volley over the helpless Howard in the 6th minute.United wasted no time in counter attacking and got the equaliser off a 4 man move in the 8th minute.Kleberson passed it to Saha whom then slide it thru the defence to Ronaldo on the right. The portugese winger then crossed it to the oncoming Giggs to smash it home.Howard was tested a several times and produced 3 good saves before Antlers got on the scoresheet again.Similar to the first goal,A slide rule pass from the right was fed to Ogasawara dfifting into the middle. The nippy winger then flicked the ball over to Motoyama on the left, whom stole a yard off Ferdinand and instinctively blasted the ball home off his left foot again.First half Kashima Antlers 2,Man United 1.
No further goals in the second half.United made several changes to change the formation to 4-4-2.United looked more dangerous in this formation and looked to have stepped up their game.Ronaldo and Park had a glorious chance each to change the score but it didnt happen.Kleberson also played better in this 4 man midfield. The score aside,we looked better in the second half.Rooney and Ruud again failed to score. To wrap up this review,we didnt really improve our first eleven to be honest aside from buyin Edwin Van Der Sar.Our defence was the second best last season if I still remember correctly so,a boost is a plus indeed. Our problems last season was the inability to convert chances and to be honest,we havent really solve that. This is an annoying problem that should be solved soon.Perhaps Sir Alex and David Gill should meet a certain german footballer somewhere in Tokyo and struck up a deal or sumthing.Cheers~

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I havent seen the match yet but according to Sky Sports, there was a bust up between Rio and Ruud. Anyone know anything about this?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

It all turned ugly for United at the end; van Nistelrooy needlessly kneeing his marker in an off-the-ball incident and then becoming embroiled in a furious bust-up with Rio Ferdinand after the final whistle.

The two stars were arguing with each other, seemingly after Ferdinand accused the striker of failing to show for the ball in the closing stages.

Usually id say you really cant take anything apart from fitness away for pre-season freindlies! A few years ago we went unvbeaton through pre season everyone was scoring loads of goals and yet that season we nearly went on to be relegated!

Didnt Fergie say last year after the travelling to America last year that he wouldnt travel as far for pre season again! As it effected your early league form!

This is the eyes of most football directors. This is what they see in American and Asian tours!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I hear what your saying about the need to show confidence in your players and not end up with a situ again like the goalie one, but I still think something needs to be done about scoring goals. Yes Ruud's been a loyal and formidable player and yes, keeping faith in him will do him good, but at the end of the day its the team that matters.

It was clearly seen on MUTV's live telecast of the match until they cut it away...it happened as they were walking towards the tunnel...they werent pushin or shovin or anything like that...they are just discussing,a group of them,Rio,Ruud,Bardsley,P.Neville,Giggs...not something to be blown out of proportion for me.

Oh but wait til The Sun get ahold of it.... ;)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I just read SAF's comments, anyone that saw the game, were we that bad? Did Ruud and ROoney really not create one chance at all?

We better play a full strength squad on Saturday on whenever the last game is. This is ridiculous.

Oh how'd Jones play? That was his first real quality test.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

For me,Jones was better than Kleberson and Miller in the first half to be honest.Given more games,I think he would be our next Nicky Butt.Rooney had a shot that just went wide, gave the crowd the ooohhs and aaahss when they replayed it on the big screen. They did create a few chances,Ruud had a goal ruled offside after receiving a fake shot cum pass from Rooney, unlucky though.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

This is starting to get a bit dissapointing. We've got a problem that won't be solved by simply signing a new player.

Well it could be solved if we bought a striker.
Think about it. If we can create loads of chances but cant convert them into goals, how is signing a midlfielder and a goalkeeper gonna help that? A midfielder is only gonna create more chances that probably wont be converted either. The logical thing to do in a situation like this would be to sign a new striker. And why shouldnt we? Smith is almost officially a midfielder now, Rooney plays on the wing or in Scholes' position and Saha has been injured for like 70% of his whole Man Utd career. I cant stress enough how important signing Owen would be. The guy scored more goals than most of the players in our team last season and he did that coming off the bench. Which proves that he doesnt need many chances to score goals.

What do you get if you have a team who can create tons of chances and a player who scores lots of goals in only a few chances?

I think someone needs to ask that simple question to Sir Alex.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Believe me this loss will do us more good than a win would have.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Thats true cuz its supposed to be about fitness but its gonna harm our confidence and especially Ruud's cuz he hasnt scored in 3 games. If those 3 were Premiership ties, we'd be worrying.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I agree with you knh4, hopefully this'll give some people a kick up the arse and something might get sorted out.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I hope Ruud gets the biggest kick of them all.

Hahaha,Rune...I love you mate...you and your Owen quotes. You know what might work? We should get that kid whom wrote "Please Buy Rooney" on that brown cardboard and ask him to do a favour for all us Mancs....Get him to write "Please Buy Owen and Ballack" and get him first row seats for our Champions League qualifying game, next week!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I'm only going on about Owen cuz he's probably the best striker available. I'd probably be happier seeing Forlan come back but thats not likely.
Dont you think buying a striker would solve things?
Dont care much about Ballack cuz he probably wont solve our lack of goals problem.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I agree mate...I want Ballack as much as you want Owen.I am sure these two world class players would really solve our problems.Like I said before,we hadnt really solve our main problem we had from last season.Van Der Sar was brought in to beef up our already solid defence and Park was brought in to give us more width options.Perhaps we should really get a hold of that kid...hmmmnnn
