Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

After watching Rossi play, one of the first things I thought was who needs Owen now?

Its only worth getting Owen if Saha leaves.

But a midfielder is still our top priority. If its not a DM, playmaker would be nice.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I dont know if its being mentioned here but apparently we are still looking at Florent Malouda of Lyon. After getting Park,Sir Alex seems keen to add another winger to his squad. If we are bold enough to promote Rossi into the first team,we dont need Owen and thats a certainty.Although Owen is a much more proven striker,Rossi is much much more technically gifted plus he also has the eyes for goals.Cristiano Ronaldo WILL be flying to asia to join up with his team mates. He joined them a day late due to 'family reasons'.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I thought we were supposed to get Malouda along with Essien but once we lost out on Essien, I thought the Malouda deal went out the window too.
But do we really need him now that we just bought Park?

We really need a central midfielder. And if Saha leave, we need another striker.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

phrase u sure about Christiano?? cause i just read on soccernet.com that he might not even make it to the Tokyo games...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Latest news,Ronaldo could be out of the asian tour altogether as his father is ill.We should wish him all the best and hope everything is well.Robinho has now officially joined Real Madrid and this will cause a string reaction or two concerning Micheal Owen.I cant wait for some good news after this weekend, concerning Ballack and Owen hopefully.Ouh yah...Saha wont be allowed to leave according to Sir Alex,he's looking fitter than ever and should give Rooney,Ruud,Smith,a run for their money...if Smith is moved to midfield,Saha would be our 3rd striker,we should then try to get Owen,or promote Rossi. If we do get Ballack,Smith moves back to be a part of a quartet of strikers.

Fergie: Saha is staying
Stuart Mathieson

SIR Alex Ferguson says there is no chance Louis Saha will be sent out on loan this season.

Both Tottenham and Fulham have been linked with a move for the France striker, who suffered an injury-hit campaign last season, but the Reds boss remains confident that Saha can turn his fortunes around.

Ferguson said: "There is no chance of Louis Saha going. All these clubs are asking about a loan for him but that is absolutely ridiculous. They must think we are stupid.

"You just want him to be fit. His career here has been fragmented because of injury but if he stays fit, you can add another 15 goals easily to our tally.

"Only Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke as a partnership has given us in my time that sort of a double striker tally that puts you into the winning pot. Yorke and Cole's contribution in the Treble season confirmed that. Hopefully the strikers I have now will give us these same goal tallies."

I think those comments rule you out of a move for a striker! For now!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I agree with SAF, and this sounds good, like he's going to definitely be using a 442 again (partnership upfront). I'm not sure what that means the 4 will be, you've got to figure than Ronaldo, Scholes and a DMF are definite, which leaves left wing to Rooney/Park/Giggs? Or maybe Rooney will play upfront with Ruud, but then, what is the talk of Saha about?

Any updates on Ole?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will not be match fit,not at least until October. He said it on MUTV,nobody is rushing his return, not even himself...So,its all good.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

i miss the magnificent 20...hope that he will be fine and come back and give us what we need when he's ready and the team is as well!!!

just don't rush anything Ole!!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

What Sir Alex said about Saha is that he's not going out on loan. It doesnt mean he wont be sold.
We could still be getting Owen. And you have to remember that the Glazers will be looking to sign a big player to please the fans so Owen would be a good move for them.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

no Rune, i think SAF wants to keep saha.....

as for Owen, here's something to boost the chances of him coming (Glazers are a huge fan of Micheal Owen)...hahahaha

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I just don't understand why Owen would want to come to United, other than the England link ups. Maybe in another year or two, when RVN is getting on a bit, but until then he'd only have a slightly better chance of a game than at Real Madrid. He'll be behind RVN in the out and out striker decisions, and I don't think he can play the role Rooney plays, so that's no good either. Which means he would become a supersub like Ole, or play in games when RVN needs a rest. And that also means Saha might as well leave, and Ole might as well stay injured. He would only really be high-quality insurance against injuries.

But I'd still rather he came to Old Trafford rather than Stamford Bridge, which is where I'd imagine he'll end up. Liverpool don't need him anymore, and for some reason I don't think he'd want to play at Arsenal, though thats just gut instinct.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I've been reading about Guti, some people say he ran Real's midfield a year ago, but for some reason didn't get included in the team very often. Think he's a possiblity?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I dont think I want him. And many fans wont be excited with that move.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

imo hes overrated. He was good back when Real was less stacked, ie with makelele and Figo in the midfield. Now hes become a bench warmer.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

We need a big star signing. We havent had one for ages since...Rooney. ;)

Isnt Van der Sar big enough he's like 6ft 3! As for Guti the season he played well! he spent most of it playing up front! Hes So overated!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Guti is a soft twat.He wouldnt last 20 minutes in the Premiership, hahaha.Plus I dont think he is the 'experienced' midfielder we are looking for.Somebody has to do a post match wrap-up for me this time as I cant watch Man United vs HongKong later today, goin out with my pretty bird that why...Rune,would u do the honours? Thanks in advance mate...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Ok so no Guti. I'm just trying to think who the 'experienced' player is. Not so many out there. How funny would it be if we signed Essien on Aug 31st, for an undisclosed fee...hehehehe...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Getting Gattuso would have been great for you lot.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

If we need a playmaker, why not Tomas Rosicky? I really don't understand why no big clubs have been linked with him this summer. He's got good passing, relatively quick, good dribbling, can hit a good shot and free kicks as well. Borussia Dortmund are in a dire financial state, and whilst he won't be incredibly cheap, he would be a good deal, and someone that clubs should be bidding for.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

15 mins gone still 0-0. Its 34 degrees here so they must be bloody hot.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

30 mins gone, you can tell its not your day when Van Nistelrooy misses an open goal

I hear he's very inconsistent.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Playmaker!! Im sure Mr Scholes would have something to say about that! 2-0 Dong & Rossi what were the goals like?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Rossi's was a tap in from Giggs second cross after the corner was headed back to him.
Dong's goal was given to him by the keeper as he played the ball less than further than the half way line, he then outpaced 2 players and another one slipped while painlessly lobbing it into the bottom left corner.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Rossi's goal was an easy tap in. Dong scored a decent chip which fooled the keeper.
Dong played pretty well. Probably our best player.

But I can understand why the game was tough. HK were half way into their season so they had all the fitness they need. And apparently their last game was against Juventus who they drew against so they werent an easy opponent. And their keeper was apparently the HK player of the year which Ruud found out the hard way.
Van Der Sar was finally tested cuz the last two games were easy and Edwin mades some pretty good saves.
Glad we got the win and a cleansheet. We need to keep the momentum going.

We played 22 players again (45mins each). But thats only cuz we were allowed to. The next three games limit us to 6 subs per match so we're gonna see what some of our players can do over 90mins.
