I'm guessing its either Essien, Ballack or Owen. Cant see it being anyone else unless its someone who the tabloids havent linked us with.

You forgot Julio Baptista mate.Read in the news that a second english team had bidded for The Beast to match Arsenal's 15million price.Could that be us? Michael Ballack seems to be my choice too,at the peak of his game, hes only turning 30 this coming september and would be perfect for us as he offers much more in attack, defence and most importantly, goals.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

for me, it would be either ballack or figo. some may be asking, why still figo? maybe because the scousers could pick him up for 5 million. we can surely match that. i would rather swoop up the veteran winger than take a risk with baptista, not so sure if he's 100% reliable. with a name like figo or ballack, you'll never go wrong. unfortunately, ballack won't be as easy on the wallet as figo's price tag

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Baptista looks like he's Arsenal's now. And maybe not the type of player we need. If we want someone in the middle of the park, he needs to have some defensive abilities too.

If we get Figo, we'd have 4 wingers in Ronaldo, Figo, Giggs and Park. Which might be a good idea cuz then we'd have 2 young ones and 2 experienced wingers. Figo and Giggs could always be used for their experience while Ronaldo and Park would the ones that take the team into the future.

And Owen's situation at Real Madrid is only gonna get worse when Robinho arrives. He's complaining that he doesnt get a game but still wants to stay and fight for a place. What's he gonna do when he suddenly becomes 4th choice? If we sign him, he actually has a great chance of being in the first team. And the good thing is, it keeps Ruud on his toes too cuz he knows that Owen can take his "guaranteed" first team place quicker than anyone. Not sure what his price would be but its safe to say that Real will want a profit on him so its definately over £8million. And lets face it, our defence is great and with Van Der Sar, its gonna be even better. So if we can get someone like Owen to greatly increase out chances of scoring, he could be priceless. Forget the Sahas and Smiths and even Rooney. When it comes to experience at the highest level, the world cup, he has proven himself and our other strikers havent and sometimes he can show that with his goals. Something that Saha and Smith cant do and Rooney hasnt shown yet.

Ballack only has a year left on his contract at Bayern so if he doesnt sign an extension, he's free the season after so Bayern are gonna probably look to cash in seeing how old he is now too. This means that he wont be as expensive as one would expect him to be. He can defend, he can attack, he can be paired with Scholes OR Keano and still do a good job in midfield. Plus something tells me that the new Keane is already at our club but we just dont know it yet. I remember when Cantona left and people were saying we'll never replace him and they're right, we never did but that doesnt we still need him right now. It was the same thing when Robbo left. Maybe the player we need is someone like Fletcher or Smith who I see moving into midfield soon.

As for Essien, Chelsea might be back in for him cuz they lost out on Gerrard so I dont really know where thats going. And a lot of people are saying that he's over hyped too, although is was the French Player of the Year. Is he worth the money? I dont know. But at the age of 22, he can only be a really bad signing or a really good signing.

Personally, I dont really know who's more important. Although I'd like guys like the others, Essien might have to be the one cuz he plays in Keano's position which should be our priority. Some might argue that Figo and Ballack are old but you have to remember that Sheringham helped us to the European Cup at the age of (I think) 32 which goes to show that quality always shines through.
So really, I dont know who we want more. I personally want Owen.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Grrr, just read Rio's contract talks are at a stand still. I really hope one day the 'super-agent' gets what is coming to him. Plus, Real denied any interest, so who wants him so badly that he would want to leave United? If he does, I certainly wouldn't like to be him when he returns to Old Trafford...8 months we pay his wages, let him train, support him, then no more than 8 months later he's not going to sign anything? Sounds like something that Obi Mikel might do...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Sir Alex said a few months ago that if Rio doesnt sign the contract, they'll just hold on to him and let him leave for free.
So that means we'll keep him for atleast another 2 seasons. Thats more than enough time for Rio to get some sense and sign a new contract. So we really shouldnt worry about Rio ATM.

I'm more concerned about next season cuz we desperately need to win silverware.

Its not really upto Mc Taggert anymore though letting a investment like that go for free is never going to happen. It really doesnt look good for Rio!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Yeah, but these stalled talks don't do much to inspire confidance in him or his team commitment, both of which are integral in maintaining our back line. Further, if they know he's leaving, SAF will ahve to look for a replacement, so more shuffling, and undoubtedly, points lost. I don't know why he wouldn't be happy at United, other than his agent hyping his ego up. Hey, if someone wants to offer one of the other 'best defenders in the world' for him, I'd be happy with it!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Even though Rio is one of my favourite defenders of all time, his contract situation is kinda pissing me off.Nobody is bigger than United and even if my favourite players has to leave,by all means,I can always look up to Alessandro Nesta.

Thats obviously true but if we can get two more years out of him and give him more time to realise how much of an idiot he is then its for the best. What pissed me off the most is that he got banned for missing a drugs test yet the club still stuck by him and during those 9 months, he still got paid for free. And now he shows his loyalty by demanding a pay rise?!?!?
I think the club need to put their foot down and let him know that he's not irreplaceable so if he wants to signthe contract then do it now or fuck off somewhere else.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

If you're gonna look up to a Milan player, shouldnt it be Maldini?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

But doesnt he also play at CB too?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Yes, Rune. However due to his age he now is quite slow. I rate Kaldze very high and I think he should be first choice left back.

No disrespect to Maldini but I prefer calm and collected centrebacks...not much around these days,I also admire Liberos and the only one player whom I last saw playing that role was Matthias Sammer.Expect yet more ‘Rio to Real’ stories after the ManYoo defender rejected a new contract offer because £100,000-a-week isn’t enough to keep a roof over his braided head.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

By calm and collective you mean like Rio yes?

I love the way he plays, he only turns on the boosters if someone gets even slightly ahead of him. Otherwise he always seems composed. Does he score though?

If i'm not mistaken,he is the ONLY first team defender whom is yet to score. That is his biggest game flaw aside from this aerial weakness.Kinda wierd for a tall, lanky defender dontcu think? I still adore his style though.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Yeah thats the style I always aim to play in real football too, needs a lot of pace though, and you must be able to anticipate things. Great defender, if he could add Terry's scoring ability though :p, how pricey that would make him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

We have to remember that most transfers happen during the end of the transfer window. Rooney happened on the last day of the window.

You'd think that England would be almost impossible to break down with Terry and Rio together.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Ballack or Essien ?

Id go for Ballack, Lyon appear to be wanting way too much for Essien just look at he Chelsea/Essien bids. What was it £26 million ?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

nownownow....i doubt that Bayern will want to let go of their German superstar!!!

even though if i had a choice, i would go for Ballack instead of Essien...as it can give Keane some rest and an eventual replacement!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

its not about that goku...Ballack has a year left on his contract which ends after this new season. Now if you were the manager of Bayern, would u let your superstar go for free after next season or cash in on him now? Hes goin on 30 this september and he would definitely be cheaper than Essien.I perfer Ballack too and feels he still has his best career moments ahead of him.Hopefully it'll be at The Theater of Dreams.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Wouldnt it be abit wiser to purchase Essien as hes got most likely 10+ years ahead of him instead of Ballack whos got max 3-5 years left? Especially since United is looking for a long term replacement for Keane who already is old.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

ballack would make an instant impact if we were to get hold of him. he has lots of experience in the champions league and world cup.

essien still has much to learn, but would still be a good signing. lyon definitely want too much for him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

If u read the article, its actually quite a choice for Sir Alex to make. Here we have a top midfielder near the peak of his game, internationally proven, his game is almost like a complete midfielder and hes cheap in Ballack. On the other hand,we have this rising midfielder, top notch performances in Europe, young and well built for,not internationally proven plus his price tag is huge,26million and rising.Having said that,The Glazers have said that if a special player comes along, the price is not an issue.Either way,or either players,it will benefit us.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

An Important point I heard on MUTV was that Essien has 10+ years ahead of him so he can still be sold later in thf future to make some money back. Ballack cant be cuz he's older.
