Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Wasnt it found that Liverpool played better in the Prem in the games where he didnt play?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

True but just looking at the commitment level of Rooney and Smith, it makes you think Gerrard is worth it for any team.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I agree with you Rune...lets see if all that talk is worth all this while. They said that if another player with Rooney's ability bracket comes along, they wouldnt hesitate to buy him.I think Gerrard has already surpassed that bracket.Lets cross our fingers and hope mate...and lets all officially welcome Park Ji Sung onboard!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Fans also have to remember that for 90% of Man Utd's history, the club was owned by someone like Glazer. We've only been a PLC for 10% or our history. I dont see why we're panicking.
And there are a lot of benefits of being a privately owned club rather than a PLC (which everyone who studies Business would know). For example, the club had to pay out shit loads of money to shareholders (dividends) which they no longer have to cuz there are no shareholders. And since we have one owner rather than being run by loads of shareholders, business decisions like buying a player for example can be made quicker.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Screenie might be better there mate

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Lets bump this shit to the top where Man Utd belong.

Anyway, I hear on MUTV that Sir Alex is definately keeping Smith, which is good news but Saha might go.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

"Might" being the operative word here.Apparently Saha dosent want to leave and Fergie does want him in his usual 4 striker bracket.Plus Saha are best friends with EDVS when they were at Fulham, hes getting more comfy with Edwin around.

Manutd.com has a couple things about Saha on its frontpage today, saying he's 90% sure he's staying, and would only leave with the addition of a new striker. Personally I still think we should keep him. Remember when we first signed him, and he was partnered up front with Ruud? He couldn't stop scoring! Imagine this as a formation, when SAF finally realises that Scholsey's just not good enough anymore:

----------VDS------
----Gary-Rio-Wes-Heinze
--Fletch/Essien;)/Keane-----
-------Rooney-------
-Ronaldo----Giggs/Park--
-------Saha--RVN-------

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I'm confused. What formation is that?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

that's quite odd...u mean put Rooney in the place of Scholes???

i think that Saha should stay...even though he haven't been much last season (along with smith), but they are great help in times when RVN is hurt or off the bench to spark.....talking about off the bench, any news on Ole?? i miss that guy!!!

btw, anyone seen the new away kits?? sorry if it has been posted b4..but i am curious to see

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Ole will be playing next season. Not sure when but definately before Christmas.

Awkward 4-2-4. Scholes should stay in the starting lineup, he's still quality.

Saha I think should go, he gets injured a bit too often. Sure, a goal-scoring streak works wonders, but the consistency just isn't there with him. It could be possible to try him out this season and if he gets injured as often, ship him off at the mid-season transfer window. I can't imagine SAF letting him transfer after only one year at Old Trafford, but if he does as miserably as last season, why not let him go?

I still think Rooney'll grow into a scholes esque role, more like a few years ago when he seemed to always be on the edge of the box, or first in line for parried shots. Plus even last season Rooney picked the ball up a good deal of the time around the halfway line, often leaving no one ahead of him. And I was envisioning park playing further back when needed and surging forward, everyone speaks highly of his stamina and speed.
But hey, I like offensive football, and to be honest Chelsea have made it quite clear how stuffing the midfield is the most effective way of playing, so perhaps we should switch to that (play just Ruud/Saha, move Fletch into the midfield as well). Just not as much fun though ;)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I understand what you mean. But your little diagram was bit weird.

And I've been saying the same thing too. Rooney is so much like Scholes. Even the manager compared their workrate and ability.

Haha, yeah my ability to draw up formations with these ---- thingies is lacking a bit.

Anyone heard anything about our friend Obi Mikel? Wasn't his hearing with Fifa on monday?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I think Mikel's situation is being investigated at this moment.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

"Mikel (Obi) is adamant that he wants to move to Chelsea," a close pal of the former Plateau United star who is also in the junior Eagles team in Holland told NIGERIASPORTSONLINE.COM.

"He told me that nothing will ever make him play for Manchester United, not even FIFA.

"On our way to training before Saturday's final I tried to sample his mind on his choice of club as regards the summoning by FIFA.

"And he was so confident and vocal in telling me that it is Chelsea or no England at all for him. He said the city of Manchester is not bubbling at all.

"That the city is too boring and that staying and playing there is like one staying in Jos.

"Mikel Obi also told me that besides the dull and boring city of Manchester, the club, Manchester United, could not match the money Chelsea offered him."

_____

wow. simply wow. if this is true (don't know why it would be a lie) this young lad can go as far away from United as he likes, thank you very much. London's fun, but he should be going to Barcelona if wants excitement. Or maybe the LA Galaxy, LA's a fun town...disgusting attitude

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

If Chelsea want the fucker, they can buy him.

i hope this money grabbing bastard never touches the man utd strip.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I'd make him sit on the bench for the whole of his contract, ruin his career.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Italian tv says that Real are after Ferdinand now since Samuel is more than likely heading to Inter. I'd say its pretty likely if they can lure him with money and the 'galacticos' title.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Its not his fault, if you guys had the chance to play for more money, you would right?

Also, London or Manchester? Think about it.

Both fair points, but only for someone who didn't legally sign their services to Manchester United.

Yes i guess he did not make a commitment.

Exactly. This whole thing could have been prevented if he had made up his mind in the first place. Maybe this is all a bit of foul play on Chelsea's part? I wouldn't be surprised if it was, the same thing happened with Cole and Arnesen.

Sadly, he has already wore our shirt. He's supposed to wear the number 21.

If he wants to join Chelsea then he can. If he wants to be brought up with players in the reserves that has NO chance of breaking through to the first team then so be it. Cuz lets face it, the standards at Chelsea make it almost impossible to let young players from the reserve team be brought into the first team. Man Utd on the other hand have made a history of bringing up youth players who over a decade later are still regarded as some of the best players in world.
And as I was saying, if Chelsea want him so bad, they can buy him. Cuz legally he's ours regardless of how or why he signed the contract.

But enough about that bitch. I'm still thinking about who that third player is that Man Utd are planning to sign. David Gill said that they're looking at a player very closely who they dont want to reveal and should have a bid ready for him. Not sure who he is or which position he plays but Gill sounded pretty confident that they have him in the bag.
This was actually said after the Glazers confirmed the big transfer budget and how they wont back down from a bid if the player was an important one.
Who could it be?

I'm guessing its either Essien, Ballack or Owen. Cant see it being anyone else unless its someone who the tabloids havent linked us with.

Personally I hope its Ballack, everytime i've seen him play he's been fantastic. He's not young, 30 i think, but still should have 3 years or so left. If anyone saw much of the confederations cup, he was almost always the best player on the pitch in the German matches (excluding Adriano v Brasil). I still fear Essien is unproven week in week out, and he's hyped because there's no other biggies out there. (i'd love to sign him and be proved wrong though). Finally I don't see Owen coming. ALthough, if Real get Robinho...who knows. As a supporter of England I'd still love to see a team with Nevilles, Roon, Rio, Wes, Alan Smith and Owen all playing together. Who knows maybe they'll even convince scholsey to come back! (joke)

Or maybe it'll be even better, bring on the surprise!!!
