Stam wont start or will play CB. Cafu is vital as our RB. We will either shift Maldini to the left and put Stam in the middle, which seems very likely.

I really cant wait for this game, nervous but excited!
eusa_dance.gif

yeah stam and nesta at CB if he plays a flat back 4, that'll be a good battle with ruud (fingers crossed) and Rooney.

Cafu and Maldini (this guy doesnt age) vs Giggs and Ronaldo.

Gattuso V Keane (bit of celtic/rangers thing there)

Sheva/kaka vs Rio/Brown

Some great (pontential) battles there...

Cant wait, you coming over for the game??

nah he would have been good for the milan game, its him doing all the running and tackling that has enabled keano and scholsey to influence games recently.

I think Fletcher is a good player, united support is split over him but I think he's decent and would be alot further on in his United career if hehadnt been so unlucky with injuries.
where would he fit in.....

neville--- silvestre--rio--heinze

ronaldo--keane--scholes--giggs

----ruud----------rooney-------

i guess if we play 5 midfielder its between him and o shea, but i cant imagnie sir alex will go wihtout hsi big guns, including ruud...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Nope, im going to the 2nd leg in San Siro.

Pirlo - Scholes will be a nice clash of the Brains. Both are key to creating the plays.

how could I forget those two, both fantastic passers of the ball...

I was gonna go to the 2nd leg but finances are tight so im gonna have to give it a miss, although ive not given up hope yet!!

well I reckon Milan are gonna play a 5 midfield (what do you reckon milansta?) so I cant imagine Fergie going with a four as he left 4-4-2 back in 2001, theres a chance rooney will step down to the bench to give us attacking options unless he puts im as an attacking midfielder, but again thats gonna leave gaps.

Either way Fergie is gonna play this really tight as the Italians are very good in these situations, saying that I think the last time we lost to an Italian team was Florentina away a few years back so Fergie seems to have them sussed, although Milan truly are a class act so its gonna be hard to call....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

-------------------Dida---------------------

Cafu-------Nesta---------Maldini-------Kaladze

------------------Pirlo-----------------------

Gattuso--------------------------Seedorf-------

-----------------Kaka-------------------------

Shevchenko---------------------Crespo-------

The defence might instead be Cafu-Nesta-Stam-Maldini. Im not sure what Ancelotti will choose. He might use Stam to counter Ruud's headers and aerial balls.

Its a strong lineup, but that looks an attacking lineup for a euro away. Kaka isnt known for his defending so its gonna leave your midfield outnumbered.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think it will be even in midfield - Everytime Milan are attacking, Cafu plays as a midfielder, who then starts the counter attacks down the wing. Kaka has been playing a deeper role than last season, which might boost the midfield and the transition from defence to attack (his main strength is creating an attacking play after winning the ball). The biggest danger for you lot i'd think is Pirlo's long balls and Cafu's attacks down the wing.

One thing im not certain about is United's GK. Im not sure if theyre both in form, but from my knowledge I remember them as abit shaky in Europe. So id think Kaka, Sheva and Seedorf would be dangerous in the shooting part of the attack.

hhmm so cafu V Heinze, brazil V argentina, could be tasty..

We are gonna have to be on top form..

As for the GK situation, well i'd say the three youn mentioned are dangerous infront of goal regardless of who's in net.

We are shaky in the dept though, saying that he's still kept a good few clean sheets so he's not doing too bad...

Im hoping the game will be balanced. My biggest fears are Giggs and Ruud.
giggs for sure, but ronaldo and rooney cannot be overlooked, they have been impressive as of late, ronaldo really gives united that one two punch with giggs on the other side, they cause so much problems, when both are healthy, should be a fantastic match...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

for sure

im sure everyone on the pitch will be running their tail off so nobody will be "overlooked" per say. i really cannot wait, i was really excited when the two clashed in the summer but i never knew they would do battle at the biggest stage possible (for clubs)

truly cant wait

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I reckon we are gonna take Milan at home, the San Siro will be a different story.

TRIVIA: When was the last time Man United played a competitive game at the San Siro? Answers on a post card please.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

European Cup Manchester United 1-0 AC Milan 15-05-1969
European Cup AC Milan 2-0 Manchester United 23-04-1969
European Cup AC Milan 4-0 Manchester United 14-05-1958
European Cup Manchester United 2-1 AC Milan 08-05-1958

Milan have a stronger home record.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The teams should be evenly matched but I think the match will be decided on how well Ruud plays. If Ruud is at his best, we'll easily win. Otherwise its over for us cuz Milan will probably get their away goal.

I am not the biggest optimist when it comes to football, but we`ll never "easily" win dude (as much as I`d love it if Ruud put 3 past Dida) and you also have to remember they have the awesome Shevchenko (aka the Ballon d`or) who I personally think is the best striker in the world. Also, in my opinion, I think AC Milan will go on to win the Champions League if they knock us out.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

if sheva is on top of his game he can decide a match on his own granted but we have a few match winners ourselves, and a few of them will have fond memories of the san siro.

Anyway, its great to see Ruud back in training, here's Rios thoughts:

"I think he's chomping at the bit to get some action... I'm sure he'll feature in some way either on Saturday or against Milan...it's great having him back in training...all the lads have been joking going 'who is this new signing, what's your name?"

Ruud on United life

"I feel at home in a place with such strong traditions. The moment I signed my five-year contract at Manchester United, the chairman at the time, Martin Edwards, took me to the boardroom. I shook hands with all of them the people in the room, Sir Bobby Charlton last of all. When he said: 'Good luck', I got goose bumps all over my body. I drive down the A56 straight to Old Trafford. Between two church towers in the distance, I can already see the two biggest stands. When I close my eyes, I can recall that mental picture, no matter where I am. I feel at home in a place with such strong traditions. I don't see why I shouldn't spend the rest of my playing days here. I never for a minute think things will happen naturally. Nothing comes naturally to me. I do not belong in that exceptional class of player that can operate occasionally at less than 100 percent. I know I would not get away with that. Giving less than 100 percent is not really an option for me. As the years have gone by, I have started to take football more and more seriously."

Its easy to see why United fans took to this guy straight away...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Any word other than the ever-annoying Sun on Ronaldo's contract? I really fear that he has no allegiance to the club. He doesn't strike me as the type of player, say like Ruud, who cares where he is, as long as he's playing. Which is really depressing, considering how good he will be.

what run was saying isnt even optimism, its just daft, the quality they have even without sheva is top drawer, sheva is pure class, im looking forward to seeing him play. compared to Henry (who everyone thought should have won the Ballon d`or) I think he's alot better, alot more consistent and defo more deadly at finishing....

nah its bollocks, its the 2nd story they've run on it this week, and suprise suprise they are the only ones.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

shock horror someone in the press has something to say about G.Neville an even bigger shock is that its Holt from the Mirror.

‘It is a measure of how terminally centrist our nation's politics have become that Gary Neville's mild criticism of Nike was hailed by a rancid few as evidence he's a lippy Bolshevik nutcase.

‘The truth is that Neville, who so often provides a reassuring reminder that there are plenty of intelligent footballers out there, could have gone an awful lot further. He could have said that the moment Thierry Henry enlisted the help of Nike for his Stand Up, Speak Up campaign, the Frenchman shot a hole in his good intentions.

‘He could have said Henry should not have been seduced by the lure of Image is Everything. He could have said the Arsenal forward's anti-racism statement would have been more powerful if it had not been bankrolled by a multi-national firm with a reputation for guerrilla marketing.

‘And he could have said that before Nike get involved in anti-racism campaigns in future, maybe they should think a little more deeply about the fact that the average wage they pay workers in their south-east Asian sweatshops is less than £500 a year.

‘Perhaps Henry might care to Stand Up and Speak Up about exploitation of cheap labour in the Third World, too. Just don't mention it to Nike. They might think there's a wristband in it. Made in Bangkok, obviously.’

he makes some very good points IMHO.

no, one has NOTHING do to with the other, why muck it up, this guy should have written about the sweat-shops and
the explotation of kids, not about henry and his failure to knock Nike for that..... henry is a football player not a journalist, this so-called journalist should be the one breaking the story on the explotation of kids not henry.....
Dont you think his article was a waste of time... he could have written about the sweathshops instead of bashing henry, its classless journalisim.... he should do his own job and not critique henry for do something outside of henry's job.... i did not know it was a pro-arsenal paper, you could have never known from the points this guy made... do you really think its henry's job to exploit Nike's faults? Or is it a journalists job to do that? what do you think vann....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Im confedent Ac Milan will lose, First of all Shevchenko against Reggina played SHITE.
And Im not sure if Pirlo will be back either.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I reckon we'll nick it but only just. We seem to perform alot better against the tough teams. If we had drawn Leverkusen or Monaco i think they would have knocked us out.
