Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

what about downing for us? is that not at all in the cards?

anyway, we've gotta take three points from city this weekend. however we may have to do this without rio, giggsy and ronaldo because of injuries. giggs from prior to wales-hungary, ronaldo during ireland-portugal (perhaps from that challenge? ffs duff's got a good stamp on the boy's ankle!) and what news of rio?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I dont think rio was ever injured or giggs, Fergie just pulled them out to give them a rest. As for ronaldo that was from duff being a dirty little shit, there was no intent on playing for the ball it was deliberate.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah, Fergie said it was "Out of character" for Duff to commit that foul - the green-eyed monster niggling at the Chelsea winger perhaps?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

well thats a sigh of relief, i just posted that because that was what i had read on skysports.
Giggs is still feeling his hamstring but is being tipped to pass fit, along with England international defender Rio Ferdinand.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

And The Reds Go Marchin' On,On,ON!!
Its always difficult playin Citeh especially away and I'm just delighted that we won comfortably with lady luck on our side! C'MON!!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

What a fantastic finish by Dunne. Too bad he did it at the wrong end. City were scaring me a little bit. They really made it hard for us.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

yea, i was sure macca and fowler both shouldve tallied, both on SWP crosses. however, it was a great touch by keano to find gary and his low cross couldn't have been better.

let's also give richard dunne a round of applause, you can't a worse up and down game like he did, great job policing roo in the first half but there was no doubt who the better player was in the second

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah good ole lady luck, been missing some this season (such as last city match) but came through today. Wasn't too happy with performance. I can't tell if Fortune is really fast and talented or not, he seems to lose the ball alot in promising situations. Also seemed like giggs and ronaldo were told to take it easy, shouldn't really be subbed in if that's the case, espcially with others needing a chance (miller etc...) And where was Saha? Don't tell me he's hurt AGAIN...
Think we'll have to do better than that at Goodison this weekend, though I trust Rooney will have a good game...maybe next to Ruud

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The good thing about the Everton game is that its a cup game. So we get a replay if we draw. That means we don't HAVE to get the win (although I expect Fergie wants to get the tie out of the way).

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I don't think we'd want a replay at this time of the year. We have too many fixtures right now.
Maybe losing in the Carling Cup was for the best cuz now Chelsea have 3 important games in 7 days. First the FA Cup, then the Carling Cup final and then Barca in the CL.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think Mourinhos worry will have to be the Barca match.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah hopefully that macth will be intense for them and tire their players and the same thing that happened to arsenal last season could very well happen to chelsea

Glad to see not everybody wears rose-tinted spectacles. I have to agree with you. Good game for the neutral (or not  ). Now I hope you give the Toffees a good hiding in the FA Cup! Either that or tire them out for the game against us. We need divine help at the mo' ;)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

yea we could use with less games added onto our already hectic schedule and you lot could use us giving them a spanking while tiring them out so that the five points seperating the two of you will be minimized. we'll see what we can do... ;)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

cheers mate, you lot have got yourself a good opposition as well, all the best

moving on, i came over this on skysports... why are we still after a keeper?!

SkySports said:
Arsenal and Manchester United are battling it out to sign Belgian goalkeeper Silvio Proto.

The two Premiership giants watched Proto in action last weekend against and they could only have been impressed as the custodian kept a clean sheet against Lokeren.

Arsenal have been linked with Proto for some time and have watched him on several occasions this season.

Both sides could be in the market for a new goalkeeper in the summer as they have had problems between the sticks this season.

United currently have Roy Carroll as first choice at United after he displaced Tim Howard in the starting line-up, but both have failed to establish themselves.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is considering his goalkeeping options having swapped Manuel Almunia for Jens Lehmann in November only to restore the German to first choice after a couple of shaky performances from Almunia.

Proto is not worried about the speculation and is concentrating on his football.

The Belgian international admitted he is only surprised that no top Belgian sides have shown an interest in him.

"We will see what happens in the future," said Proto of his future.

"What amazes me is that not one single Belgian club has shown an interest and in the foreign countries they know who I am."

heheh, why wont one single belgian club show interest? they wont be able to put up deals of the same calibre as united and arsenal

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Nihat Kahveci To United?
Real Sociedad have reiterated their desire to hold on to Nihat Kahveci amid reports of renewed interest from Manchester United. The future of the Turkish star has been thrown into doubt in recent weeks because of Sociedad's crippling debts.Nihat recently rejected a new contract offer from the Basque outfit, and both parties have agreed to postpone talks on a new deal until the summer when the club's financial situation is likely to decide whether or not he will be sold on.
SkySports.com

I personally think Nihat is a smashing player, lightning quick, has a superb shot, two footed and takes freekicks superbly.Only 24 now and should be an asset to us,I'd say we should grab him in the summer.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Hes a forward though isnt he? We already have 4 at the moment and 5 once Solskjaer returns!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Manchester United skipper Roy Keane has expressed his praise for English midfield trio Frank Lampard of Chelsea, Steven Gerrard of Liverpool, and Roy's teammate and friend at club level Paul Scholes. The in-form midfielder said in Dublin recently that they are the "three probably most outstanding midfielders, not just in England but probably in Europe".

Keany himself recently stated that he may actually take back his claims for retirement when his contract ends in roughly 18 months. "If this time next year my body is holding up and my hip is okay, and the knee, and (Sir) Alex Ferguson and Carlos Queiroz and Micky Phelan probably feel I can still contribute to the team then who knows" added Keane jokingly

"The manager pulled me aside on the Saturday morning and said that he will be the one deciding when I'm going to be retiring"

see? everyone loves SCHOLESY!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We have enough quality replacements for him. You should be more concerned about Ruud's return who should be playing on saturday according to the manager. Smith and Saha are also coming back so we'll have a full team ready for our tough fixtures.

Oh and that reminds me. In case any of you were wondering, Saha was actually injured training with France AGAIN! He should never play for his country again.

nah he would have been good for the milan game, its him doing all the running and tackling that has enabled keano and scholsey to influence games recently.

I think Fletcher is a good player, united support is split over him but I think he's decent and would be alot further on in his United career if hehadnt been so unlucky with injuries.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I know its a big FA Cup game for us this weekend but the game in all our minds is Milan on the 23rd.

Ive not been this excited about a game for along time.

Milan havent been playing well recently, the last game I saw was the home game V lazio, where a spectacular freekick from Sheva (we're not worthy) and a last minuite goal from Crespo saved them from a defeat and also got them a very important three points.

Similar to us they have a system but also the quality to change things round mid game with players being comfortable pretty much anywhere, especially in the attacking third, unusual to see Stam at right back for that game aswell, he looked okay TBH, although his passing wasnt great, if they play him there against us he might have abit of trouble against Ronnie or Giggs.

Fergie on Milan.

"You have every game recorded on video and watched in the stands by scouts. Milan will have done exactly the same with us. I'm afraid there are no secrets in European football these days. You can't hide. Sports science and video technology prohibits secrecy in the modern game. It's almost a KGB mentality!

"It's protocol and respect that allows it to happen and it's an open world now. Manchester United and Milan would never do anything other than act properly. We've a great relationship with Milan, we've been friendly with them for a long time."

"There are things that you do hide. The tactics on the day may vary. Milan are capable of changing tactics. They can play three at the back as they did in the European final. There are many things they can do."

"They have a very experienced team with the likes of Maldini, Cafu, Jaap Stam, Nesta and Giuseppe Pancaro. There is a lot of experience at the back; they're very good defensively."

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Found this on RedCafe.net. Dunno what I shall think about.

Premiership: Steven Gerrard will sign for Manchester United – fact(ish)

Everybody knows that if you butter one side of a piece of bread, and then throw it up in the air, it will always land on the buttered side. It’s just one of those dead certs in life, somewhat like a football dead cert that is about to come to the surface.

Roy Keane announced this week that he is going to retire at the end of his current contract with Manchester United in 2007. With him with go United’s driving force of the last ten years. The captain who kept heads up during the occasional rough spell, the man who led by example in the big matches, and the best central midfielder to grace the Premiership. With Sir Alex surely on his way out also in the next few years, and the likes of Giggs, Scholes and the Nevilles hitting their thirties, it would not be so ludicrous to suggest that Keane’s departure will signal the end of United’s golden era. After all, the latest crop of youngsters to come out of Old Trafford have hardly set the world alight. Eagles, Richardson and Spector don’t look like Red Devil material.

In reality though, we all know that United will be ok. Ferdinand, Silvestre, Heinze, Ronaldo, Fletcher, Rooney and Van Nistelrooy have still got plenty of legs left in them, and with Keane’s departure, there is only one player who can, and will fill the void, taking United forward once more: Steven Gerrard.

As silly as it may sound, in fact, Gerrard to United is a fairly obvious move. Firstly, Gerrard will get out of Anfield soon. Liverpool are going round in circles, and Gerrard needs major silverware. So where does he go? Real Madrid? I think not – it does not come with a particularly high recommendation from buddies Owen and Beckham. Arsenal? Don’t be silly. As much as the Gunners would love Steven Gerrard, he’s not French, and Arsenal really can’t afford him. That just leaves Manchester United and Chelsea, if we leave out Everton, who despite being championship contenders by 2007 are unlikely to get Gerrard in their blue shirt.

Jose Mourinho has made his appreciation of Gerrard very clear. He will try and move heaven and earth to sign him. He certainly has the financial backing, and Chelsea do look like the best team in the country these days. Gerrard alongside Lampard would be awesome. Gerrard could also live in London, and the move wouldn’t leave the bitter taste in the mouths of the Liverpool fans.

Why then will he go to United? For the same reason that Wayne Rooney did. Sir Alex is incredibly good at getting his man, and despite Chelsea’s excellent position, there is not really a bigger club in the world than Manchester United. Being idolized at the Theatre of Dreams, being certain of a starting place for the big games, being sure that the chairman isn’t going to get bored and run away with all his money. Manchester United has had long term success. United’s pastoral care is second to none, and quiet boy Gerrard doesn’t need the bright lights of London that Chelsea offers.

You can laugh all you like, but this will happen, and Liverpool – United games are going to reach another level for years to come.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

^^^^^^^

as much as I'd love for this to happen, I canny see it, in fact i'd go as far to say it would never happen, although we live in hope....

Stam wont start or will play CB. Cafu is vital as our RB. We will either shift Maldini to the left and put Stam in the middle, which seems very likely.

I really cant wait for this game, nervous but excited!
