Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Well he's never had a game behind Rio this season and he was great without him so Timmy can't really let us down. The FA Cup tie will be the perfect warm up for him too.

Did anyone watch Cristiano Ronaldo on MUTV yesterday? He was on that player phone-in specials that they have. He had an interpreter to help him talk to the fans (Most of them were women with marriage proposals and offering free holidays :) ). It was quite interesting to watch. Throughout the whole show, the presenter Steve Bower was trying to get him to speak english cuz we saw that he does understand it. In the end, they finally got him to answer a question himself. Surprisingly he can speak a lot better than I expected.
The funny thing was that everytime a girl called in and said "Hi", he'd get REALLY embarrassed. His whole face went red.

Ryan And Ruud On Road To Recovery

United have been handed a double boost with the news that Ryan Giggs and Ruud van Nistelrooy are recovering well from their respective injuries.

Sir Alex Ferguson was keen to dispel rumours that Giggs and van Nistelrooy's injuries are worse than first diagnosed.

The Reds boss insists his in-form Welsh winger should be available within a fortnight, while Ruud is in line to return for the crucial Champions League last 16 clashes with AC Milan.

"Ruud has got every chance of being ready for the AC Milan game," said Ferguson. "We expect him to be ready for those games."

"In the case of Giggs, I would put it down to two weeks," he added. "He should be back in two weeks."

Reports in the press suggested Giggs, who was substituted against Tottenham with a hamstring injury in midweek, would be missing for at least six weeks; a rumour Ferguson strenuously denied on Friday.

"Ryan has a hamstring injury. It's not going to be six weeks, as has been reported in the press, but then who is going to stop that story?

"There was nobody from Old Trafford that even predicted that kind of time-scale.

"We know the situation with Ryan; he gets these injuries from time to time, and we've handled them well over the years. The time factor in his recovery is now much better."

Van Nistelrooy, who was originally suffering from a calf injury which then spread to his Achilles, is still doing remedial.

The Dutchman has divided his recovery time between United's Carrington training base and his native Holland.

"His injury has not got worse at all. He is on remedial," the boss confirmed. "We have let him do part of it here and part of it in Holland.

"We think that helps him mentally; when players, particularly those from other countries, are recovering from long-term injuries it is a bit easier if they are surrounded by their family and friends."

Meanwhile, Sir Alex confirmed that Tim Howard will start the next two games in goal for the Reds, against Exeter City and Chelsea.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Thanx for that, Leviathan.
That clears up a lot of questions.
BTW, Where did you find that info?

Yea but if he keeps playing then there is more chance of him doing the same, fumbling a shot from 50 yards out is pretty shocking, and his confidence will be very low so he will probably do the same next match..

Keepers get it tight, because if they make a mistake they get torn apart, but if players in any other position make a mistake nothing seems to get said.

I wouldnt play Caroll again, I would put him in the reserves ot against the crappy teams, and see how he does. But Man UTD need a new keeper, all they got is 2 blunder masters.
nah nah, your wrong mate, howard is still young, hasnt had enough exp in the EPL to say that yet...

yea i ve seen it too, thats very encouraging news

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Reembergence of two transer rumours for us during this period of time.I'd particularly be happy if Gravesen decides to join us.He is a fantastic workhorse and would instantly command a place in our starting eleven.I dunnoe about Niemi though, hes is anything but special to me,not any better than Carroll and Howard to be honest.

United target Gravesen
Manchester United have made their move for Everton midfielder Thomas Gravesen. The Old Trafford club made contact last week with Gravesen's Danish agent - former United full-back John Sivebaek. United have made it clear they'll compete for the Denmark playmaker if he rejects a new contract at Everton and decides to leave on a free transfer in the summer.
Paul Hetherington, Sunday Express

Ant's plea to United
Antti Niemi last night told Manchester United: I'm ready to replace Roy Carroll. The Southampton keeper confirmed he can end United's keeper crisis following Carroll's amazing blunder against Tottenham. Niemi admitted: "I hope Saints don't have to sell me, but I would be lying if I said I wouldn't be ready to talk to United. Let's be honest, these are clubs where you know you will win things. I'm happy at Southampton but if either Manchester United or Arsenal came in I would want to talk with them."

More news from the United camp,Wayne Rooney looks to start alongside Louis Saha for our Carling Cup duel with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.Sir Fergie will continue to play his fledglings in the Carling Cup aside from these two players but despite his previous selection policy, the injuries we have means he will also have to bring in one or two other senior players.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I hope none of our big players play. We need them all fit for the big game against Liverpool.

I also share your doubt over Niemi. He is 32 and also has his errors (it was his fault for one of Northampton's goals on Saturday).

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I personally think we should try to play a strong team in every game, whether its the FA Cup, Carling Cup or any other game that we normally expect to win easily. The fact is, our second string isn't as good enough as what we had a few years ago. When guys like Beckham, Butt, Giggs, Scholes, etc broke through into the first team, they did it by winning the Youth Cup and earning their places. It seems to me that the fringe players these days are given their place in the team by default without even doing anything to deserve it. Every time we play a weaker team, Sir Alex seems to play fringe players just for the sake of giving them a game, not because they deserve it. Giggs and Scholes didn't make the team because they were given a chance, they are there because they were special and were capable of taking that step up to the first team.
Did anyone see Arsenal's lineup in the FA Cup? They had quite a few first team player, and they don't even have that strength in depth of their squad like we have.
Sir Alex has messed around with the team too much this year and IMO, that is the sole reason why we most likely won't win the title this year.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

i agree with runeEdge here, after fergie's apology i feel that he is most definitely going to start several of our world class players against exeter in the replay and without a doubt, we are going to see something near our starting lineup against chelski

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Does anyone know how old Thomas Gravesen is? And would he be a better replacement for Keane?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

gravesen is turning 29 this year, so that makes him roughly 5 years younger than keano. he was also an integral part of denmark's performance at the euro2004 wasnt he, so i would think he would make a decent addition to our midfield

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Man U need to concentrate more on promoting youth instead of bringing in all these outsiders. The game against Exter reinforced this for me, the young players seemed daunted by the occasssion, when they needn't have been, many have lacked quality game time and matches in the second team don't count for much. Ferguson needs to start concentrating on the youth again, the policy has served United well in the past, and I can't see it failing them again in the future.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Saha is gonna be back soon. I hope he can turn things around for us. He definately has the ability to do that but he keeps getting injured playing for France.
I heard he has only played about 18 games since joining us.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Its been reported that King Louis Saha will definitely be involved in tomorrows League Cup game against Chelsea.Hes back to full fitness now and he needs games to get his match fitness and sharpness back.He definitely has the ability to turn games,no doubt.Hopes Rooney,Smith and Saha can work wonders for us in the wake of Ruud's absence....

ps: RuneEdge, come on....join the "1000 Posts Club" now would ya?? hahaha, cheers mate..

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

YAY!!!! I did it! 1000 POSTS!

Another good news is that Rooney and Saha are expected to start today against Chelsea. When asked last week about his fitness, Saha said he was 95%. Sir Alex said its just the matter of choosing the right game for him to start in. Chelsea are gonna have a hard time keeping up with those two. Out of our four strikers, those two have the most pace and flair. I wouldn't want to defend against those two.
Fortune and O'Shea are also back so we could expect to see O'Shea in left back and Fortune on the left wing.
So I'm guessing that our team will be...

-----------------------Howard-----------------------
-------------------------------------------------------
---Phil Neville-----?????-----Brown-----O'Shea---
-------------------------------------------------------
---Fletcher------?????-------?????-------Fortune---
-------------------------------------------------------
------------------Rooney---Saha--------------------

Not sure who will be the extra players. We know that Rio, Silvestre, Scholes, Keane, Miller, Ronaldo, Bellion, Smith, etc are also available but Sir Alex will definately have one eye on the Liverpool game which is very important.

spector at right, o'shea in the middle....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Man Utd (from): Howard, Ricardo, P Neville, O'Shea, Brown, Fortune, Pique, Spector, Fletcher, Djemba-Djemba, Miller, Ronaldo, Richardson, Scholes, Jones, Eagles, Rooney, Saha, Bellion

Thats the squad from bbc site

I think Fergies gonna stick with 4-5-1, and pick the strongest from that squad

---------------Howard
P.Neville--Brown--O'Shea--Fortune
Fletcher--Scholes---Djemba--Ronaldo
-----------------Rooney
------------------Saha

Thats what I think anyway

-------------------------------------------------------
---Fletcher------Miller-----Keane-----Fortune--
-------------------------------------------------------
------------------Rooney---Saha------------------

That would be my starting eleven for tonight's game and I expect Scholes,Smith and Ronaldo to be involved too in some stages of the game.

Thats probably the most likely team but I'm not sure if Sir Alex would want to play Miller after our performance against Exeter. I'd put Jones in there instead. He played the best out of the younger players and the word is that he might be the one player from the reserves that might step up to the first team like how O'Shea and Fletcher did recently.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

well fergie has elected to go:

-------------------Howard
Phil------O'Shea-------Silvestre--------Heinze
Ronaldo----Fletcher--------Djemba----Fortune
---------------------------Saha
------------------Rooney

HT 0-0

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

good result, we had some of our b team vs there a team, with the exception of cole, heinze is def turning into a great signing, i think timmy deserves the start on saturday..

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

howards distribution is a little bit worrying. Although i prefer to see howard playing i think carroll is more confident in goal. Indeed we played very well with a lesser team put ouy but what in hell possessed Alex ferguson to buy djemba djemba! The guy has got to be the most useless and worst passer in the premiership game along with that other scumbag Diouf.

Fortune should get MOTM in my opinion he worked hard and read the game well along with O'Shea suprisingly

Ive always said from day one heinze is a fighter and a typical United player, hes been a great signing ever since he made his late debut.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Seriously, Djemba Djemba has good to go. Anyone want him? Anyone at all? I guess maybe he plays well in practice, but man, I can't recall a single good game for him. Whatever happened to Kleberson? Fortune was good, especially like seeing him get stuck in, though his challenge on Drogba was pretty nasty.

I hope they dont' review anything from that game, but as a measure of comparison, consider Rooney's 'violent' conduct and see Drogba grabbing fortune by the throat...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

But Fortune didn't fall down like he'd been shot. So I doubt they'll review it.

Great game and a good result for us. I've been fearing this week. Hopefully we can get something at Anfield and then finish off Exeter.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

ronaldo adds chelsea defence to prem teams he has taught dance lessons

1vs manu when at sporting
2vs arsenal fa cup semi
3vs liv at ot
4vs chelsea today no denying that

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Last night in the wee morning hours, when i woke up to see the Chelsea-United game...i remember saying "Bastard" when they showed Peter Kenyon's face on the tube...can someone refresh my mind, did he went there for the money or he was booted out? Great game anyways, hope we can finish them up next two weeks at OT.Bring on the scousers this weekend, they aint no match for us,with or without Morientes.C'mon United.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

phrase, peter "the life long red" kenyon left cos he was offered shed loads of cash.

Decent performance last nite, after saturdays showing I had us down for getting beat, but we played okay didnt look intimidated by chelsea, kept hold of the ball well and pretty much kept them under control.

mourinho's comments made me laugh, makes it easier for him to not have to address the fact that they didnt look that special for a team thats gonna win everything this season.....

So its on to the mickeys, i fancy us to get a result up there, mourientes is a great signing for them IMO and it sets it up nicely having us to play against in his debut but still with giggs keano and scholsey back in the team and saha and rooney a game sharper we should have enough to get a result.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Dont forget rio's return aswell as a new dumb haircut. Saha needs some goals under his belt he always gets into good positions then gets unlucky like lastnite or gets injured.
