Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

This is reeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllly starting to piss me off now. How the f*ck can such a great team have a problem with scoring goals? Looking at our potential, this is our best team since 99 or maybe even better than that.
Someone on MUTV brought up the point that SAF maybe isn't as scrict as he used to be on players. I personally think thats the cause of the crisis. I think the man that used to throw boots at players faces is being too soft on guys like Rooney and Ronaldo.
Its only another 4 days till the next game and I'm already worried that we might do something stupid again.
The only thing we can do is bring in someone in the transfer market who can make a difference for us and I don't mean someone like Ronaldo or Heinze. I mean someone who can make a REAL difference. Someone like Gerrard. If we can get a big signing by the end of the season, along with the return of Solskjaer, we can really start beating teams like Arsenal and Chelsea.
We have many great individuals but we lack players with experience and presence.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Perhaps you rely a little to much on C Ronaldo. Admittedly I dont watch every Man U game but it seems that when you dominate teams and inspire memories of the 99 Man U, its when he plays well. When ever you draw or lose the finger tends to get pointed at him, "he should cross more insted of runnning in field all the time," etc.

He's a fabulous talent with the potential to reach legendary status, but at 19 he obviously needs to mature a bit. Perhaps he needs a proper understudy or an effective/more experienced replacement when things arent going to plan, someone like Joaquin?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

But we'll never really get Joaquin. Real Madrid look like the favourites to get him.
And we're not blaming Ronaldo for everything. The team as a whole are not tryng hard enough. We only really look like we're gonna score when Ruud is playing.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I admit it,its really killing me inside. There were times where our players advanced upfield for the counter like rabid dogs....then,one pass back, then another and then another and the ball is back to our half. The rabid dogs look like puppies now.We never counterattack like we used to do,back in the days.It happened more than once against Fulham, particularly in the second half, really pisses me off. Those short passes outside the opponent box was unnecessary as by then, the box would be filled with defenders. We certainly have the players but as I said before and I will say again...we need that catalyst player...one whom makes it all happen.Whom u might ask,I frankly dont know,as lots of talented players are cup tied for CL.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I can't believe everybody's kneejerk reaction. If the game had of finished 1-0 everyone would have been praising our defence, saying we're back to our best, and saying we can win dirty. A wonder strike that no defence/keeper could stop later and suddenly everybody is past it, and we need to buy £30 million players to fix this? Yes, blame should be pointed at our forward line, but its not like it was a super easy game to us. Fulham away has always been a tricky fixture for us, and I was surprised how well we played in the first half (we should have killed the game off way before half-time). In the second half Fulham threw everything at us (putting on two strikers for two midfielders) yet our defence stood well (Rio was fantastic yet again. Silvestre was error-prone though). Until Diop blasted the ball past Carroll though.

We're lucky that our next two games are both at home to Palace and Bolton.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

its time to take the training wheels off of mr wayne rooney, he needs to be where scholes is playing, i feel that is his best position, the passing and vision he has is his best quality, every game he impresses me more and more, and maradonna lite, needs to be in the center of the pitch......

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I would prefer us to play the 4-4-2 more often in the EPL. That way we can get Rooney playing more central thus causing more havoc. The formation we're using at present is best suited for European matches.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Well said Gazz, the thing is,even with our draw againts Fulham,it dosent mean we are out of it cos chelski and arsenal drew too.Only everton gained advantage over these two games. We're still in it by all means and only dumbasses will write us off.I'm not looking at the bigger picture of the teams performance for the last 7 games we won,I like to focus on the little things, like formations, tactics...the way we score goals, the way we create chances...I admit it,its not easy as it looks before...and I still feels something is not wrong...its flowing good...but it isnt smooth.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

What I'm mad about is that we're only looking like a threat when Ruud is playing. I know we have a great squad of players but they can only really do it consistantly when Ruud is in our team every week.
Are we really a one man team? Why do we need Ruud to be there?
If our team really was good, why are we slipping up at times like this?
Why do we miss van Nistelrooy when we have Rooney and Smith playing?
Why was Rooney on the wing?
Why is Smith in midfield?
Why didn't we make any substitutions in the whole 90mins?
Why the hell does it always happen to us?
What are we lacking?
How come we don't see wonder goals scored against Chelsea to ruin their run for the title?

Its when I ask myself questions like those that I get pissed off. We better have answers on saturday.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I feel you RuneEdge.I too, asked myself, the questions you came up with.It has to do with the tactics. We may have a solid new formation now but is Sir Alex and Carlos Queiroz playing the right players at their right positions? I'm not too sure about that...now that Ronaldo is sent home for the holidays(read below),lets see how we line up this weekend againts Palace at OT.

United patience Rons out
Cristiano Ronaldo has been given an enforced break as his team-mates lose patience with the Portuguese star. Gary Neville and Alan Smith tore into the Manchester United winger, 19, for his wasteful play in the last two games. And after Monday’s draw with Fulham, Old Trafford boss Alex Ferguson sent Ronaldo home to Madeira for a fortnight’s breather.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

A fortnight!?! Isn't that about 3 games that he'll miss then?
Well atleast we'll have Fletcher playing instead who deserves some games. I hope Sir Alex listens to the fans and goes back to the simple 4-4-2 rather than having their strikers and wingers running all over the pitch in random directions.

And play Rooney up front!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

News has it that Gaby Heinze will also be rested for the holiday period. He will be sent home and we already have ready made replacements in O'Shea,Fortune and Spector.Great news for the argentinian who has been playing non stop since Copa America.Hope Ronaldo and Heinze comes back playing better football than before.

Joaquin knows Real,Man United and Chelsea are all paying close attention at him.Speculation grows that Chelsea are his likely destination. Here are some quotes from the player himself.

"I have heard the offer is very big and I know Chelsea are a very big club, but, for me, money has never been an issue," said Joaquin to The Mirror. "Football is the only issue for me. My friend Reyes tells me good things about English football when we play for Spain. It makes me think about things. "I have always loved Manchester United but personally the main club of the last two seasons has been Chelsea. All the players these days want to play for Chelsea."

Doesnt look good for other teams innit? Robben on the left,Joaquin on the right?....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Chelsea are greedy MOFO's... I really hate all the money in football, they say you can't buy the title, but Chelsea are having a damn good go at it.

Agree. Joaquin is good, but his performances at Betis have not matched those of Duff.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Joaquin is a very good player, he's only a kid and will develop into a world class player, but Duff, when not injured is a fantastic player.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

On my 1000th post...its all about Man United vs Milan.God dayum this is gonna be one hell of an epic. We've face Inter,Bayern,Juve,Barcelona and Madrid in the past...and now we got Milan, just another day at the office for Fergie I reckoned...I'd say we can take em on,well, maybe not man to man-wise,but team spirit and desire-wise..I think we have an upper hand.It gonna be a game we wont forget for sure...C'mon United.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Hope for a great game with you lot. Ive always wanted to see milan play the red devils. I think Milan can just win it because of morale- what united lacks at the moment.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Anyone heard if this is true, and also, anyone heard how ruud is doing?

Smith injury blow leaves United short of firepower
Manchester United face a striker crisis ahead of tomorrow's Premiership clash with Crystal Palace after Alan Smith was ruled out with a gashed foot. It is understood Smith received six stitches in his foot yesterday after an accidental clash with a team-mate in training and will definitely miss tomorrow's must-win game at Old Trafford.

Fergie Hopes For Resolution Of Ruud Injury

Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping a scan will determine the exact extent of Ruud van Nistelrooy's troublesome calf strain.

The Reds striker has been struggling with the injury since being substituted during the 3-0 win over West Brom last month.

The United boss told reporters at his Friday press briefing that van Nistelrooy has again been feeling the injury over the last week and was therefore not risked in the 1-1 draw with Fulham on Monday night.

"The problem still hasn't cleared up," said Ferguson. "We're sending him to see a specialist today [Friday]. We're at the stage where we want to get to the root of it.

"It is a bit of a concern because he is the best striker in the business and we want him back - particularly for the European campaign coming.

"We don't know [how long he will be out for] - that's the issue that is concerning us. We thought he was almost there at the beginning of the week, but it has resurfaced during the week."

Sir Alex has no qualms about using Alan Smith in a similar role to the Dutchman, although the Yorkshireman is reportedly struggling with gashed foot.

Smith’s abrasive style of playing – summed up so forcefully with the sliding challenge that made his goal against Fulham – would be an ideal alternative to van Nistelrooy.

His performances have curtailed any doubts that some fans originally harboured; about his ability to get goals at the highest level – he has eight in 16 starts; and his allegiances having come from Leeds – Ferguson describes his dedication to United as heroic.

"He has been terrific since he joined us," says the boss. "He has been a real hero for us. His goal on Monday night was one of these goals that only that type of striker can score.

"Some players manufacture goals by beating men – players in the mould of Henry, Ronaldinho or Ronaldo can make goals on their own. But to make a goal with a tackle is fantastic."

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Hrm, so possiby no Smith, Ruud, Ronaldo...erm, anyone having trouble seeing where the goals are going to come from? I presume giggsy and scholes will be pressured forward, with Rooney sitting just behind Bellion? I say give Rossi a start, I'm dying to see him play :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

i really don't see man u beating milan... i really just can't see it man... Unless United play with 5 defensive midfilders, how are they goin to stop the attaking prowess of SHEVA n KAKA? the only ppl we have on the team world class enough to compete with them is Ruud Rio n Giggs. the rest are really going to struggle against the likes of gatusso, nesta, maldini, stam n co...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

From a Milan point of view, im very scared of Ruud and Scholes. But i think Sheva, kaka and Nesta can do the same harm back, hopefully more :)
