Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

chelsea must be licking their lips in anticipation for us to put out the same hapless bunch of players we put out tonight

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

This result means United will play one of five teams - Bayer Leverkusen, Internazionale, Juventus, Milan or Monaco.Hahahaha...Monaco being the weakest team on paper amongst these 5.I'd say bring em on,If we are destined to go far and win it this time round,it dosent matter who we face up against. We went pass Inter,Juve,Barca and Bayern when we won it back in 99,so hell yeah...bring it on.

If you look at it that way, NO ONE can stop us.
Internazionale's defence isn't too strong so that's a game I'm confident we'd win. So Inter or Monaco would do for me.
Anyone know when the draw will happen?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Bit of a disapointment with the result last night, but asking the lads to jump from the level of crewe, palace and arsenal to the Turkish Champions is abug jump by anyones standards. the difference in quality was obvious.

But alls well, hopefully a big draw for the next round, hopefully someone in the mold of Milan, I think they are the only team ive not seen us play at OT.

Either way there are some great teams left, Juve's Del P has said we're one of three teams he'd like to avoid, im not arsed who we play tbh, cant wait for Feb!!

I'd like to see him do that really,He's a left sided forward rite? or right? Either way,hes facing up against G.Nev and Heinze, two of the best fullbacks in England currently.

On a more serious note,I'd really like to see T.Ho back in the first team, the 3 nil trashing at Turkey didnt helped him, though. If you guys would notice,Carroll got into the first team with a solid backline, already established while T.Ho played with a mistake proned, unstable backline that didnt gave him any confidence at all.I'd say bring him back and 'blood' him again.T.HO! T.HO! T.HO!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

what do u guys think of the chances of STEVIE G. coming over to us? my god... what a guy we wld have to take over from KEANO... but i would say it will be virtually impossible... i see him going to Barcelona... he would not be so dumb to join a Real side on the down...

he is a bit like rooney, where he can play behind the forwards or as a forward or on the left or right....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

yeah ive been thinking about gerrard joinin utd. He would be the perfect replacement for keane. Fergie has shown his admiration of Gerrard. The only thing his that he would be coming from liverpool and it would be the ultimate betrayal for the fans. but if we can get smith and rooney to be traitors like cantona then theres no reason why Gerrard cant fo the same.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Are you gonna pay for Gerrard cuz he might even cost more than Rooney?
Plus Chelsea would easily beat us to his signature if Gerrard became available.

I personally think we should go for Vicente now and worry about a new Keane in about 2 years time cuz we've got no problem defensively. We just need that cutting edge attack that guys like Beckham and Giggs used to bring a few years ago. Ronaldo is good and is only gonna get better but we still need someone on the left and Vicente is perfect.

United is by far the riches club in the world, money is not an option... its just something writers like to write about.....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Just cuz we're rich, it doesn't mean we can throw money around. We used next years transfer budget on Rooney so it'll harder to buy someone as big as Gerrard. Vicente is cheaper as also a great player. Selling a few fringe players could easily finance a transfer for Vicente but not for Gerrard.

before united bought rooney, what was the stance, "we cant afford rooney, we dont have the cash" etc.. etc... all bullshit, at the end of the day when your company is worth 1 billion US, 30 million is just a drop in the bucket, United can and will throw around cash, didnt United just get $5 million alone for making the knockout stage, to me its obvious there is no player in the world united cant afford...... if united dont want gerrard that is one thing, if gerrard turns down united then that is another, i believe if both parties want it to happen, no matter what, it will happen...... see wayne rooney

we've got the money to make it happen, but the rivalry between us and the scousers is too much to overcome IMO, if he just played for LFC and moved to United it would be bad enough but him being a scouser born and bred, his family living there, it makes it nigh impossible for him to move, its a shame cos he would add so much to our team.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

money is not the issue at the mo, its the size of our squad which needs reducing. if we really want to to in a bid for Gerrard we can,i believe there is a strong chance of us puting in a bid,its just weather or not he will choose us over chelsea or whoever will bid when he decides he wants to play for a proper team. United need to win trophies this season to attract these kind of players otherwise we will start to lose our rep.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The way I see it is; there are only three teams in this current climate of football that can afford Gerrard. Chelsea, Real Madrid and ourselves. Today, apparently, Jose Mourinho ruled out a bid for him (of course next summer they still might). Real Madrid are in a current rebuilding process (would Gerrard really want to go to Madrid? Maybe, maybe not). We (if we try) have got the cash to buy him, but of course he wouldn't want to join us. Now if Chelsea decide truthfully that they will not buy Gerrard in the next two seasons (I still think they're favourites though to land him), that leaves Madrid and us to try and sign him.

Of course, at the minute, Real Madrid and ourselves are not currently interested in him. But things can change easily in football.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

gerrard is currently the best midfield player in his position at the moment. I would love to see him in the red of United. I don't think he is greedy for money. If it was about money, he would be in chelseas's blue. I'm sure if gerrard goes, it will be above 30 million pounds. i won't be surprised if it reaches the height of Zidane's transfer fee considering Steve's age and amazing potential...

Yeah. But don't forget, if players WANT to leave then prices get sliced immediately. Remember Everton started saying that it would take over £50 million to buy Rooney, yet he was sold for little over £20 million (excluding bonuses of course).

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

As much as anyone want to see Stevie G in our blood red jersey,I just cant see it happening.BUT,as they say these days, anything can happen in football. The market has been influxed by Roman Abramovic. So far,all these talks about our fans wanting Gerrard to join us is pure speculation, the player himself hadnt even express anything bout joinin us,I cant remember any quotes from him either. It would be a great time isnt it? Roy Keane retiring after next season, just in time for a player like Gerrard, who describes Keano as his idol,to replace the irishman's place in the team.

dude, cmon man are you serious? Do you know how much one stock of manchester united cost? Leeds spent more money then they had, United has TONS of money.... They are not in debt.. and it doenstn look like they will be in the future....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

This is why Man Utd are financially sound. They know how to keep their finances in check. Id love to have Gerrard but youve got to look at the bigger picture!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Bigger picture? what do you mean knh4? As far as I'm concerned,I know,we have got one the biggest check book in the land. Its only our 'policy' that we dont splash out money on any player,it has to be someone special.I think our policy is kinda stupid and calculative, but thats business and they do wanna keep it all in order,no debts whatsoever.I'm sure we will see a new face in January but that wont happen until one or more of our current players being transferred.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Van der Sar is out to catch Fergie's eye
Like your goalkeepers to be crazy? One finger short of a glove? The only thing weird about Fulham's Edwin van der Sar is that he has no eccentricities. And the Dutchman's availability at the end of the season on a free transfer should alert Arsenal and Manchester United, clubs who appear to need a reliable keeper. Tonight's Premiership match against United at Craven Cottage gives Van der Sar the perfect opportunity to impress Sir Alex Ferguson as the January transfer window looms.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Poor effort from United tonight. Someone should tell Ronaldo to attempt a cross instead of running across field and kicking the ball into opposition defenders.
