Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Ruud has said that the injury is no big deal, I reckon Fergie will rest him for saturdays game and nake sure he's fit for the CL game against Lyon.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

sounds like a plan, this way, fergie can play saha and this is really his chance to prove his worth

yeah I thought Saha was gonna feature against the barcodes but obviously Fergie knows best, Ronney starts Rooney scores 2.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

fuck shaha is out for a month, a ruud might be out for a couple of weeks as well.... maybe rossi needs to be brought up!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Looks like Smith and Rooney up front? I can't imagine he'll risk Van Nistlerooy's form given the lyon match. I say maybe try something radically different, don't know what, but be creative! Charlton are probably going to try to play in the same way that all teams who have done well against united this year have played, 5 in midfield and just defend all match trying to break. Blah.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I was looking forward to seeing Saha start a game. Damn it!

Could be a blessing IMO, its one less player for Fergie to fit in, if we get a few weeks playing a consistent strikeforce it'll benefit us in the long term then when Saha is back Fergie will be able to give someone a rest and slot him in......

You going tomorrow Ninja??

Johnson off to England
Aris Ohanessian, USSOCCERUK.COM
Fresh off strong performances for the U.S. national team, midfielder Clint Dempsey and striker Eddie Johnson are set to spend parts of their November and December with some traditional European powers for some training.

Dempsey, 21, and Johnson, 20, are part of the new breed of American player - whose development has only been helped by the presence of Major League Soccer. While Johnson was always primed from stardom with a pedigree from youth national teams, Dempsey was a bit of a sleeper that exploded onto the scene in his first season with the New England Revolution.

Now coming off his first cap against Jamaica Wednesday, Dempsey is set to wing his way to Holland to train with Feyenoord starting today. The versatile Dempsey played in midfield, and at striker for the Revolution in a Rookie of the Year campaign.

"I made some rookie mistakes, giving the ball away, but I got positive feedback," said Dempsey to the Boston Globe. "I did some good things, as well. We were playing to win and (Arena) told me he wanted me to get involved in the attack, that the defensive midfield was a little too conservative, and to take it at them a little."

Johnson is headed for two straight two-week training sessions; the first is with Manchester United, the second with DaMarcus Beasley's PSV Eindhoven. Both of these individuals are purely set for training sessions, with neither eligible for a work permit in the United Kingdom. Johnson has five goals in his three appearances in the red, white, and blue, and while in the proverbial zone for the national team the FC Dallas striker is happy to keep his 2004 rolling.

"I had a good year in MLS and got some goals and got my confidence up," said Johnson. "I try to put myself in position on the field when I'm here with the National Team because at this level you have guys that can take you out when you make a run with the ball. It was my first start and I was just happy to be out there."

Both Dempsey and Johnson will be available for national team training camps in January, which manager Bruce Arena mentioned Wednesday evening. These training sessions are expected to be based heavily with MLS players, especially in advance on the opening match of the Hexagonal set for early February. With Major League Soccer out of season, these camps should be fierce competition in order to catch Arena's eye. Meanwhile, it has been reported that New England's Pat Noonan is also heading across the Atlantic, to train for two weeks with Chelsea.

SO gusy does this mean anything? I mean does this happen often, where players train with United just for the sake of training?

I highly doubt United would let random youngsters train with them if they didn't see something special in them.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

ALRIGHT! thats the way to go now innit!? its great to see scholes finally look confident on the ball after his goal. a lucky goal on giggsy part but he made the run so credit goes to him. a bit disappointed with ruud and rooney, both seemed to have the ball at his foot a big too long. however if our two star strikers can play poorly and you can still win convincingly, we are in great position to get back in CL qualifying position.

great job on fletcher's part in the second half when he got a bit more involved, i felt in the first half he got a little careless at times. also good to see fortune and brown get chances at the wingback positions to prove something as well, felt fortune got up forward well and brown defended equally magnificently.

aaaaah, finally a totally dominating performance at home to lift our spirits up.

we now have west brom away, then the saints at home, then fulham away and palace at home.

this is our chance to pick up 6 consecutive prem wins. CMON UNITED!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I would expect 10 points from our next 4 fixtures, but who knows what will happen in this season!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

well as i said, we do have those four above teams left in this calendar year. but we ll see to fixtures with bolton and villa before 2004 comes to a close for us

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We also got a chance to rest players for the big game against Lyon. Neville, Heinze and Ronaldo will surely be a lot fresher.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Looking at our fixtures ahead after the Lyon game shouldnt this be the time when Ronaldo and Heinze can have their little break?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Finally a week when we actually make some progress. A lot of times when we get decent results, Chelsea and Arsenal always win too. Good to see it didn't happen today. :D

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

WOO! and we ve got radhi jaidi and robert earnshaw to thank too!

this is starting to look better now, we re right back in this thing. now is the time for us to string up some wins

Nice goal from Mr Scholes today aswell

piece of cake !

haha yea he had a great match all together i thought.

he said after the match: 'I've been trying as hard as ever to score but for one reason or another it hasn't happened until now. Now I want to go on and get more.'

he also said that this was a "relief" that he finally scored, im happy for him and i agree, the goals will come. we have to play well as a squad, and everyone must participate. we were far from our best today but we still managed the points, so imagine us on a good day!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Thats right what Scholes said,we were far from our best against Charlton. Before Giggsy scored,we looked flat and lacked ideas to attack.I thought Fletcher had a great game, always wanting the ball and using it well.Keano and Ruud should be rested earlier yesterday, they both looked tired.Ronnie,Heinze and Neville were rested and it was a good move by Sir Alex, minding our home game against Lyon, midweek.Arsenal's curse continues and Chelsea were held at home, absolutely fookin brilliant.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The more I watch Real Madrid, the more I think £25 million for Beckham was a bit of good business.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

dude he single handedly wiped our debts away, (230 million) and continues to generate profit but for that we sacrifice our game and results

At the end of the day, results on the pitch are all that matter. He is 29 now and not exactly playing his best. Now thats not to say I never liked Beckham. When he was 24/25 he was one of the best midfielders in the world. But lately his performances have been average at best.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

it is kind of the same for good ole scholesy, as they said today during the match, ginger at his prime would be poppin in goals for fun. however, as scholes has reached his 30s, he is slowly turning out mediocre performances. still his leadership and tenacity is still always there, and he leaves 100% on the pitch, never lifting his foot off the pedal, unless fergie asks him to. during the recent european championships he potted his first goal for his country in three years and that's also something that worried him, however he put club over country and decided to focus on manchester united. unfortunately, quitting england didnt help him as his form dipped slightly until most recently.

i am not saying becks should quit international football, but perhaps it is something to think about.
