Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

A little off topic, but do any of you guys know if our official 04/05 team photo/poster is out? I've been lookin all over, even been to a shop here which imports teams posters directly from UK.The guy said, its not even taken yet,cos Fergie wants all players to be in it.Is this true?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Tommorrow is our first game with a full set of 4 quality strikers. I'm thinking Ruud and Saha will be starting since those guys are great together. We got most of players back!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It looks like Fergie is going to rest Rooney for the Arsenal game.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Ruud and Rooney tomorrow, Fergie wants Rooney to get a good few games under his belt.

also Scholsey should play some part.

Expect Keane and Ronaldo to get rested for the game in Prague.

Ive wondered about the 04-05 photo too

last months United magazine said there was going to be a 04-05 team poster in this months and it isnt there, so......... who knows

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'm sure Fergie will rest some of his top stars for the CL game midweek and the cometh of Arsenal to OT.I expect to see Ruud,Ronaldo and Keane rested.Rooney should get a game, strike the iron while its hot they say.Saha is back and I think we'll see Smith and Scholes in action too.I like to see Howard back in between the posts too, this game should be a confidence booster for him.

Formation for today.(Doubts for O'Shea and Bellion)

-------------------------Howard-------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------
--------------Ferdinand--------Silvestre----------------
G.Neville-----------------------------------------Heinze
-----------------------------------------------------------
---------------O'Shea-----------Scholes----------------
-----------------------------------------------------------
----Bellion-----------------------------------Giggs------
-----------------------------------------------------------
-------------------Smith--------Saha-------------------

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Darn it,we didnt need that draw.I thought we lost the plot in midfield today.Kleberson was ineffective, and I didnt understand Saha's role,a withdrawn LWF? Ronaldo did look jaded as I thought and he should have been rested at halftime.Bad result for us as them goons and scousers cruise to a 3-1 and 3-2 win respectively.I hope the lads put this result aside and be ready for europe at midweek.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

There were two positives we could take out of the game.

1) Smith's form. He played really well today (as a centre midfielder).

2) Our defence definitely looks more solid with Rio. We never really looked like we were going to concede.

Our forwards were poor though. Ruud and Ronaldo looked like they wasted all their strength in their last international games. Saha looked bright in spells.

A surprise for me was that Keane also played pretty poor. A lot of his passes were misplaced (unnatural for him) and it looked like the international games finally caught up on him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It was a messy game. I dont think our defence looked solid yestaday coz of the shaky midfield aswell as Heinze missing. Another draw is quite terrible but considering we were on the back foot im glad we didnt lose.

But you have to agree with Fergie on players being tired from international games like rooney, ronaldo and keane, I just dont get why he didnt rest at least one player for the whole of match.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It's frustraing times at the moment for us I feel! Fergy needs to stop playing his best 11 players inrespective of position. We seem to play to many players out of position at the moment. O'Shea DMF ?!?! I would rather see Brown play there! I cant believe he has never tried it.

Yesterday I think P Neville at left back and Fortune at Left wing would have given us much more balance. Even Bellion on the right and Ronni on the left may have worked.

I have tried to defend Kelb a number of times but I think (hope) he is close to his final chance, the number of tackles he pulled out of yesterday was scandalous, he is not suited for the english game. We lack a dominant midfield at the moment, its as if we are lacking the final 5% to look convincing.

Positives: Smith in midfield seem to add something, Brown hard tackling and not getting injured.

Against the Arse I would like to see a team close to:

-------------------- Carrol -------------------
G Nev ----- Ferdy -------- Silv ----- Hienze
------------------------------------------------
Ronni ----- Keane ----- Scholes ----- Giggs
------------------------------------------------
------------- Saha ---------- Roo ------------

Bench : Howard, Brown, Djemba, Smith, Ruud

Quite obvious really! Bar the Saha > Ruud

I feel Saha would offer a lot more pace up front and with the Roon dropping deep to play the link I think Saha could really occupy them. Plus Ruud could get a real kicking against them.

We really need to find Keane's successor now, I feel we may have missed out with Scott Parker IMO I think he would have been perfect for us. Djemba is still raw, but I can see so much in his game, admittedly he had a bit of a stinker in the last champs league match. I hope he can mature a be the anchor for our midfield. Cant really think of anyone else young who could come in a do the job.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

oh how this has crossed my mind, but i feel (as ninja mentioned a while earlier) that we should get the chance to see liam miller a lot more, for he has been compared to the likes of keano himself. he has made trace appearances and in an unnatural right wing position during the first couple of matches due to niggles to ronaldo and scholes (where sheasy pushes to play centre half... still dont understand that)

ive wonder a lot about this problem we have

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

De Rossi (the Roma player) is a defensive midfielder. He is young and hitting a bright bit of form recently (even scoring goals). He is also not one to shy away from a tackle. I think we should try and buy him. And Roma are in debt, so a price of around £6-10 million would do.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

£6-10? the magpies took butt from us for under £3 mill, and butt is a multiple premiership winner, multiple fa cup winner and has a european champion's medal. de rossi is young and may have a bundle of potential, but £10 mill may be too much

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

be honest though we got 'done' in the butt deal, newcastle got a bargain
wished we would've kept him tbh
:(

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

exactly, just the amount of experience butty exudes on the pitch is incredible. he brings with him every match a sense of want in him, because he has already won soo much, he knows what it takes to win and he knows how it feels to win.

de rossi will not bring this to OT, or anywhere he goes, no offence to him. he may bring skill and flare, but i dont know if adding to the youth that we have already is going to help. i think he would be excellent for the future, however, our problems are now and perhaps even the near future, which means youthfulness is not yet called upon

-fb

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Which is why I've been saying that we need to buy an experienced player once in a while instead of targeting the young players everytime.
Fergie looks so far into the future that he forgets about the present.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We dont need and experienced player to be honest.Look at Xabi Alonso and what he has done at Liverpool,he isnt considered an experienced player when they got him from Sociedad. Its the quality and potential of the player that we must consider.Only two players on my mind to replace Keano and they are Steven Gerrard and Pat Vieira.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

But buying potential over experience is a risk. Potentially great players might not reach their potential but with a experienced player, you know what your paying for. Xabi Alonso was a good buy for Liverpool but what if he hadn't turn out to be a good player? It would have been a waste of money. If we go and buy someone like say Nedved, we'd know we're not wasting our money cuz we know what he can do.
Kleberson and Djemba-Djemba are perfect examples of what I mean.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I have to agree with Gazz22 with buying De rossi as he is a guy with high potential like rooney and ronaldo,he has been performing for a big club like roma and been playing well for Italy,it would be a smart signing but i dont think fergie will go for him,the english don seem to like Italian based players too much for some reason.

I dont think djemba djemba and kleberson are perffect examples because none of them showed any high potential for any big clubs or on the internaional scene maybe kleberson but he didnt do anything major to help Brazil win the world cup,he just got a bit overrated. Theyre both dumb signings.

but De rossi is exceptional,in a few years he will be a well known player for his football.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Roma's Derossi would be indeed awesome, but I don't think that Roma would let him go.
I'd have to disagree with you guys on Kleberson, I think he does have talent and he has shown it at times but he'll need a bit more time (and a consistent position), but I'll wait until the end of the season to judge fully.
I think what hurt us the most last game was Saha playing on the left wing. Fergie probably wanted to experiment a bit, but I think it wasn't that successful. And generally, I don't see consistency in the formation these days. An example would be Liam Miller, who's supposedly Keano's successor, but played on the right. O'shea would be another example.
Nine goals in nine games, not very good (especailly compared to Arsenal).

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

'Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjær is probably the best known Norwegian in the world thanks to his association with the leading English soccer club. While recovering from a long-term injury Solskjær has found a new interest, helping schoolchildren in Eritrea, newspaper VG reports.

Solskjær is probably best remembered for the winning goal in Manchester United's miracle comeback against Bayern München in the Champions League 1998/99 final.

Solskjær has decided to donate all of the proceeds from his equipment deal with shoe producer Nike - estimated to be worth NOK 700,000 (USD 104,000) per year - as well as a NOK 300,000 deal earned promoting brunost - brown cheese - for dairy giant TINE to UNICEF.

VG said that Solskjær would donate his income from these projects as long as he was injured.

"As far as I know this is unique. I have never heard of anything like it before and Solskjær doing this commands massive respect," said Reidar Skorpen at Nike Norway.

Solskjær did not want to discuss the matter and preferred all attention to be given to Nike and UNICEF.

According to VG's sources Solskjær did not want to collect money from Nike while he was unable to play. The money donated by the footballer is just short of that needed to build a UNICEF school in Eritrea, and Solskjær is part of a project to raise funds to construct nine schools there.

"Not just in Norway, this is something special in all of Europe. We are tremendously impressed by his dedication. He is a great sportsman, no less so for doing this," Skorpen told VG.

"He's our golden boy and the fantastic thing is that this is all his initiative, something he would rather not mention. He came to us and said he wanted to raise money for schools. We wondered how he would do this, and he mentioned his Nike contract," said UNICEF secretary general Kjersti Gjestvang.

Ole the legend.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

As we approach tomorrow's encounter with Czech giants Sparta Prague, Sir Alex Ferguson will have two large voids to fill as skipper Roy Keane and stand-in captain Rio Ferdinand are both ruled out; reasons being virus illness and family funeral respectively. Mikael Silvestre will most probably suit up next to Wes Brown while Fergie has a choice of Eric Djemba Djemba, Darren Fletcher, Kleberson, or Phil Neville to substitute in for the Irish international. Paul Scholes is slated to return after he made an appearance in United's fruitless 0-0 draw at the midlands, his versatility, along with Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs' returns from their personal niggles will boost the Red Devil's considerably.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

So...we need some midfield overhaul. From his record over the years, I should have a bit more faith in SAF, but alas, I'm beginning to wonder this season. So since I'm sure he takes the time to listen to fans *coughs* who do you think should be coming in? Any good prospects, other than De Rossi? Edu apparently wants to leave the goons, wouldn't that be funny? Maybe move Ronaldo in and he'd play as well in the center as he does in my ML game (:))

I think take either Rooney or Smith, move em behind the strikers, and leave them there. Get them used to the position, not keep switching them about. Then RVN, Saha and the other could still be options up front. As for the center, I haven't seen anyone worthy of taking united anywhere fast.
So who to buy?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Do you think England's new 4-3-3 would work with for us?
We've got the players to pull it off so why not go on the full attack?
We could use Phil, Keane and Giggs in the center and Ruud and Saha up front with Rooney behind them.
It would also allow us to rest Ronaldo cuz he could do with one after the way he looked against Birmingham.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Fergie on Ronnie after Birmingham:

"At Birmingham on Saturday I thought Ronaldo would be fresh enough after being away with Portugal. But he was not. The first thing he did when he got on the bus after the game was fall asleep. I made a mistake there."

 He did look very tired in the Birmingham game. All of his tricks didn't seem to work.
I hope he's ok for today's game.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

alright, united starting with this:

--------------Carroll---------------
Gary--Wes-----Silvestre-Heinze
Miller---Scholes---Oshea-Giggs
-------------------Rooney--------
----------Ruud-------------------

miller again, but on the wing, his CL debut, lets hope for the best, united have had loads of chances, still first half however

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

0-0. bloody hell. the four backs were fine i guess, no use in tellin off ferdy for attending a funeral service. honest to god i cant stand oshea in the middle. miller on the right was a decent decision i guess, but ffs, no more of sheasy in the midfield. put rooney in a diamond, and put smith up front with ruud!
