Manchester United Thread

2 wins and it's a successful season. Madness. Can't believe how much LVG's 'philsophy' of football has destroyed my love of watching the sport. 2 shots in 90 minutes against Norwich City, in a crucial match. It's just so mind-numbingly dull.

Worst thing is, if we do manage to win both (and I don't believe we will) then somehow our least successful 2 months in modern history are just wiped away. And it's nothing to do with how 'good' LVG is, it's to do solely with how incredibly weak City have been.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says expectations at Old Trafford are "too high".

How bout this Louis, I'd like United to expect to finish above West Ham and Leicester, given our spend, players and profile. Is that too high for you?

I swear...that man must be a closet City plant/Liverpool fan.

If we try and look at what he said from a different light, it might be good. Meaning, what he has now isn't enough and wants more/better talent. That I would be very happy with.

The Ferguson Manchester United would have won the EPL this season with a huuuge gap...Perhaps even with the same players...

Damn right. Wouldn't even be close.

Managers are supposed to get more out of the players they have...LVG does the opposite.

I guess proof will be when he leaves, but I don't believe a lot of these players are as bad as his system makes them look. Most notably Schneiderlein, Herrera, Memphis and Darmian.

Martial out for tomorrow's game?

Here I am hoping a 20 year old is out for you. Sums up how crap we've both been...

Issue with WHU is that Fellaini (look praise!) was a defending force against them in the FA cup replay, after the 65th minute they went all long ball and we struggled. (eventually conceding, and should have had another if Dave was human).

Bilic isn't stupid, with Fellaini out I'd have WHU just pumping in the long balls and free kicks. I've not checked who the ref is, but I'd imagine if it's someone like Taylor (who lets loads go) we might nick it, but if it's someone like Dean we're f*cked because West Ham will get loads of free kicks and we can't defend them.

If we had Martial I might hold some hope we could try and outscore the Hammers, but outside of Rashford, our forwards (Lingard, Depay, Mata, Rooney) have about 3 goals in the last 4 months between them.

Basically it doesn't look good from where I'm sitting.

If we do win, I expect us to beat Bournemouth on Sunday though. Surely we couldn't do that much work to fall at that particular last hurdle.

Curses...you're totally right ;)

Anyway, GGMU, if the lads can't get up for this evening, then there's not much point in being at our club.

Although, I do notice after my last post the ref is...Mike f*cking Dean. Sigh. There's a guy that's going to take into account the situation and not make it all about himself.

Nice:

WHU fans breaking the windows of the United bus arriving, and throwing in bottles and other bits.

I assume that we'll be fined by the FA for being late.

No character, no organisation, no game plan.

3 shots in a match we had to win to get 4th.

For the sweet love of all that is beautiful in football, can we please have a new manager? Anyone? Tea lady? Rooney as player manager? Rojo? I don't care.

If I were Martial I'd be bribing Dave to take him in his suitcase to Madrid this summer.

But efficiency.. 2 goals from 3 shots. That's what matters.

He was having a laugh .

It was an epic fight the match. MUTD were toothless in the middle at times. It was entertaining from a neutral perspective . I understand the frustration of almost crossing the line. Payet was having an off day and Rooney looked good. The last day anything can happen .

Can anyone imagine Ferguson letting his players do that? And then publish it...during the match!?

I mean Lingard wouldn't be near the first XI with Fergie regardless, but he certainly wouldn't be after that.

Anyway, can't wait for both the FA Cup match and perhaps more importantly the day after it. Surely Ed can't keep his best bud after regressing so much? We're going to have scored less than 50 goals in the league this season. That is unheard of. We've had multiple matches with fewer than 5 shots on target in 90 minutes.

And most importantly every single time (bar 1 - WHU FA cup replay) we've needed a result in a big match we've crumbled. Forget Top 4, the damn league title was there for a decent manager this year. And we're not even close.

There is no plan. That much is blatantly obvious from the way we dealt with back room staff post Fergie (get rid of em all with Moyes, then again for LVG, now again presumably).

I don't mean to state the obvious, but Ed Woodward has no idea what he is doing. He has 0 experience in his job, 0 experience in football and lots of experience in making his owners lots of money, and presumably at managing upwards.

The only thing I can't understand is how our share price (and hence market cap) have fallen over 20% since last summer (at a time the market is broadly level) and yet no ramifications for big Ed. I get the owners don't care about football, but I did think they cared about their asset. But now it seems all they want is their 15m dividends each year (which Ed sorted for them).

United made a deal with the devil (ha) and are now paying the price. Not, in seems, through lack of investment but rather through lack of leadership, footballing intelligence and structure. History is riddled with strong run companies who sell out and quickly disappear into obscurity. Not saying that'll happen, but it's the path we're on.

Slight edit: I see Poch signed a new Spurs deal a day after having lunch with Sir Alex. Guessing that conversation went along the lines of 'stay away from that shower of sh*t up North' ;)

Not being biased but for me, Klopp is the best EPL manager but he has an average squad.

I'm still amazed Liverpool got him and not United

That's not bias that's delusional in the highest order. What you think about Ranieri? Pochettino? Or Bilić? Those squads are on peanut salaries :P

I love Klopp and wanted him at United, but I think his cup form has covered for his league form. I feel like he's basically garnered the same amount of points since he joined as LVG in the league. And United have been TERRIBLE.

Well being as this is the Manchester United thread I won't digress but Klopp has had 7 months in the job and gotten to two cup finals which has taken the focus off the league results.
His record in Germany was exceptional until his final season.
Second and third season in charge will obviously be a truer reflection once he brings in and ships out certain players.

Bilic has of course done very well but does anyone really rate him higher than Klopp?

Ranieri... seriously? Did anyone see that coming? Nearly everyone expected him to do nothing but what Leicester achieved has been the shock of all time.

Poccetinno is of course a very talented manager and my original response was to Gerd stating Ferguson rates him as the best in the EPL.
I stated my opinion that I prefer Klopp.

Wind the clocks back and ask a United fan 12 months ago if they'd have taken Klopp or Poccetinno as their next manager?
Even now, I think most United fans would be split between the two.

That's hardly delusional thinking Mr. Bebo

I'd take Klopp over LVG in a heartbeat. But I'd also have Bilic. Or Ranieri. Or Sven. Or Brendan. Or erm...anyone.

Seriously though Klopp is an excellent manager who has chosen a great club for his ethos. He's going to do great things at LFC, and he could have been ours...if it weren't for that meddling Ed Woodward!

Klopp and Liverpool was ment to be.. this guy i think supported the club and rates it among worlds best also because of nights like we saw against his former club... i think he said it in an interview that there were many clubs including United for him, but he wanted to join Liverpool and said something like it was the only club he would want to join after his football break...for a supporter words like this mean a lot.. it is a perfect match realy... now for the first time since Rafa maybe i´m sure of a manager ability and ways... In Rodgers i was amazed by that season, but realy with Suarez being the best player in world at that point, or second best... it was to easy for Rodgers.

This might be short sighted n ignorante ... Liverpool n their glorious supporters . They think they play the best footy, they're the richest club, more supported club and believe their fickle makes the world more greener. Like Rafa let's speak 'facts' for goodness sakes lol

Klop went to Liverpool because no other club needed a gaffer. Klop had a bad run w/ BVB like Mourinho did w/ Chels . It was October! call it luck but since it's Liverpool it's fate lol. Liverpool beat BVB w/ Liverpool had a cheat on their squad name Sahko . Arsenal lost in CL match to a person taking drug enhancement it proves to be the differences . I don't believe players go to clubs because of their history , nor a manager . It's wages n opportunities to play. The coach can say we can build a squad around you to give you incentive , but that's part to the negotiating . Let's see who goes where this summer , because it's going to be very busy.

i was not speaking at all that seriously saying is fate... more like im happy he is here, what is your problem... ?

read or watch some interviews where he says he waited for the right club and when he said there were many clubs asking for him like Real Madrid or don´t remember the others...perhaps United.. during his first interview for LFC, He wanted a challenge and i guess some fan base to remember him of BVB

and don´t mean to sound again as you write but what Liverpool done under him playing wise and atmosphere wise is matched to nobody in England as far as i have seen, so yeah, they have the best atmosphere, especially during Europe games.
