Manchester United Thread

For the first time in recent memory, the survey on RedCaf has the majority of United fans thinking we're going to lose.

Sigh.

To be fair, LFC's lineup on paper is much, much stronger tonight. Fear the Rashford!

12 minutes to go and you mustered 1 shot on target so far.

LVG did it, this is the most turgid football I can remember from United. Moyes' team was exciting in comparison.

This lack of directness reminds me a lot of Arsenal, but to make matters worse, the passing is absolutely lacklustre.

Pool was just kind of shit? :D are you sure?

I think we played great... we could score 3 or 4 more goals...if it wasn´t for De Gea..

I recall two great Coutinho chances (great saves by De Gea), one by Lallana, one by Sturridge (Smalling error)...

Don't know what else fans can do. LVG should have gone in December, now this season is another waste. So sad what we've become.

LFC deserved to win, but the lack of quality is depressing from 2 former greats.

No idea what the answer is anymore. Jose witless be here if he was coming. Woodward 4eva

United set up to stifle and chase the Liverpool players, not affording them space.

Without the contentious penalty, it was working.
Yes Liverpool should could have scored more but United have the worlds best goalkeeper.

This tie is no where near over.

United will be completely different at Old Trafford.

I can see 2-0 and penalties deciding this one.

yes i agree with that... but the big advantage for Liverpool is they have one week off untill then...United have a very important FA Cup game before that match..

Pipa, we'll probably lose that one too...

I mean, it is still possible to save this season and if we can either finish in top 4, win FA Cup or win Europa, it'd be a season of success for me. But I just don't see that desire in the players on the pitch to do any of these, and before we know it, we'll lose in all three fronts and be counted as a disaster of a season because we couldn't produce any results and on the pitch football looks awful! I'd count it as a success because it'd be able to spring some desire back into the players. Let them know what it feels like to win and it'll keep on coming.

don´t know how you play to be honest, since i only watch United if they play against Liverpool... well i was watching also Arsenal match...

anyway, yesterday we saw Tottenham in EL basically ignoring the competition and they focus all their strenght to winning PL... i was thinking yesterday United will do the same, wich is focusing on EL or at least one competition... because this way they could end up without any trophy or 4th or anything.. still it is not the end of the EL competition for United...

Well, a replay. After Payet scoring a belter, I thought we will crashing out so I'm perfectly fine with a replay.

Come on United!

that Payet free kick was one of best i have seen... beauty. what a player he has been for WHU this season...

Martial to the rescue...

an absolutely beast of a free kick. He has really been wonderful. As for the Martial goal...I think Schweinsteiger actually fouled the keeper before the shot by Martial making it a goal...if not, it might not have gone in...

But i'd still take it. hahahahaha (can't be impartial as a fan I guess)

We weren't terrible I didn't think. Didn't create much, but WHU didn't really either. You can't legislate for that perfect a free kick, genuine thing of beauty. Should have been off for diving a few minutes earlier, but it's Atkinson, we never win with him.

Schewini was definitely responsible for taking out the keeper. But, he only did so because the defender shoved him into the keeper. So not sure what the 'right' call is there.

I wish refs were good and consistent. At least we'd complain about the players instead of the refs ruining the games all the time.

IMO blaming refs is self delusion.
If a team misses five sitters, the GK lets a ball slip thorough his hands and the ref doesn't give a penalty, who is to blame for the points loss?

Most people will say, it's the ref.

I don't agree with that.

And i'm not above complaining about refs, but in most cases there were opportunities enough to influence the results besides errors refs make.

I've seen the images about Mata's two yellows now and the behaviour of the ref bothers me more than the decision (but i think that is the point beach wanted to make).

And frankly, do you guys really think United deserve to win something the wy they are playing this season? It might even be btter for the club to have a season like this...most clubs change things for the better after disastrous seasons...

Imagine United winning the FA Cup or the Euro League (or both)...would that be start of changes? I don't think so.

Oh we're terrible and deserve nothing. But in football, referees decide matches. And so the least we can hope for is that they're up to it.

If the ref is Mike Dean, I honestly think Payet walks for his dive. So isn't on the pitch 3 minutes later to 'go to ground from contact' from Blind (incredibly soft foul too imo) and score.

And in football today, there are virtually no chances in United matches. We lost to WBA 1-0 when they had 1 shot on target, and we had 0.

That's the problem with penalties, as I've moaned about before. In football today, there are so few chances that we're letting referees settle matches.

I'd love big open football like Saturday's match between Bournemouth and Swansea. that's awesome, and dozens of chances were missed.

But the way LVG plays football, it minimises chances for both teams, so ref's decisions become more crucial.

Anyway, another reason to despise the way he manages!

Well Beach, if there are no chances, then Van Gaal is to blame and not the ref.
But of course, you are right, they should be up to it.

And if it's a penalty, it should be given no matter how bad the team plays.

Payet was doing that newfound 'move' when he's running at one speed with the ball between himself and the defender, and then inexplicably stops, feels contact and goes down.

I guess you can say the defender is too close, but at the same time it's 'buying a foul' which is code for: it's not a foul.

El Pais in Spain reporting that Mourinho has signed a 'pre-contract' to take over this summer.
José Mourinho has reportedly signed a pre-contract agreement to join Manchester United, with the former Chelsea manager due up to £15m in compensation if he is not appointed by the club by 1 June.

Haha, sounds legit. That's more than 2 years of his salary isn't it?

Either it's true, and Woodward's a joke, or it's false, and we're stuck with LVG or Giggs, meaning Woodward is a bigger joke.

35 years of fun supporting United, but man how 1 season of this makes you not care anymore. Don't know how fans of other teams stood by coaches sucked all the fun of teams.

Then again, we take less shots, less risks and have less fun than any team in the premier league, so maybe we're just that much worse.

Mourinho or not, you have to realise this is the reality now... a reality where Manchester United is still a legendary club, but... that means nothing if tehre are challengers much stronger as ever before... from Liverpool´s fan point of view it is all sweet...but you are entering our 20+ years reality... with some of United fans never experienced this in their lives... so it will be hard to accept it and deal with it... the fact that United need to fight the struggles of managers changes, lost identity somehow, stupid decisions, unconsistency..

Also i think there is no guarantee that Mourinho will do better than at Chelsea when he left...

Besides what will he do with all the youngsters? surely not going to play them as much as LVG... idk, i think you could go for other managers if you realy want to improve long term, but obviously 3 years winning nothing is to much for most United fans....

with Mourinho in charge United would want instant success, i don´t believe he will turn things around that way at United...short term maybe, but the problems with Mourinho appointment AT THIS POINT OF HIS CAREER are maybe overtaking the benefits imo.

logically you should be all over Pochettino or Simeone....not Mourinho.

ideally i hope it will be Giggs ;)

Huh, between sending off Di Maria for touching his shirt to not seeing that penalty...I'm beginning to think Mr. Oliver doesn't much like United.

He'll get demoted next week for sure, which will mean absolutely nothing to us :)
