Blind for United? where would he play with Shaw already bought? will LVG play 4:3:3? if yes than maybe it is good idea as LM, but otherwise i can´t see it being good for Blind to cover Shaw as LB..

That would exactly be his role, cover in LB and possibly CM. Our new Phil Nevile!

Never a good idea to throw a teen in with no cover, Evra leaving created a problem, Blind in versatile, would be a decent solution.

Blind's preferred position is DMF... Don't know why you're all talking about him being Shaw's backup.

Yeah, he will be that guy, but that's gonna be while he's playing as a midfielder. :SMUG:

but it depends if he want´s to be a cover for an 18 year old.

Yeah, maybe not cover, I should have said competition.

And he can also play DMF/CMF, with players like Fletcher, Cleverly and Fellaini futures being uncertain, good to have a player like Blind in the squad.

English clubs with petrodollars. At least Portuguese clubs are owned by the fans, not by millionares that if they wish can change your kit colours to pink and glitter.

woah woah, United aint on that petrodollar business.

we aint got a sugar daddy we have/had an abusive father who made us dance for money and pimped us out.

Benfica don't have a sugar daddy, they have a bunch of creepy sugar-'uncles'

9m from the Markovic deal isn't a great deal of sugar but I guess without them there'd be even less.

The practice should really be banned by UEFA tho

Isn't the entire current model of Portuguese football built on bringing over non-EU-based players by accepting their dodgy 3rd-party ownership models, playing them for a season, then selling them on to rich petro-dollar clubs?

Only two of your starting XI in the Europa League final are from Portugal - hardly like Benfica have built their squad from local youth kids...

Also, I thought we couldn't get kids that are under 16 to the club unless their parents move with them?

We could be doing a trial with these munchkins and then doing a 'da Silvas' - where we sign them when they turn 17.

Agree. It should be banned. That's too much danger in that (although not the same of full ownership. Birmingham, Portsmouth, Málaga, Anzhi?) But we won't get Marko in the first place. We only pay €6m for him. Without them we would go for another player (a less talented one) and develop him like we done a million times before.

That's only partial like that. Most player are bought for the integral price by the club, but then after a year or so (or when the team needs money) they sell a part of the economics rights to some third party. In the case of Benfica, they are sell to a fund owned by banks, and not some dodgy third party. However, in some pontual cases we have done what you are suggesting. Ramires was one of those, Ola John is another and Markovic also.

Benfica have develop tones of players, but mostly south Americans. David Luiz, Di Maria were kids that came at 18 and were worked by us. If you saw them then, nothing like today. Matic another example. Completely different player when he came to us. Now is the best DMF in the World. It's same with you guys and CR7. Man U had a profound impact on his development.

Supposedly you can't.

EDIT: But Man U will probably do a Barça and get a bogus job for the parents.

That is just what is wrong with football. Benfica and other teams spend millions to develop the kids and then came the English sharks and scoop the players for almost nothing. The same teams that don't give a shit about formation - just look at the state of English players - and have millions to buy them when they are adults. Just shameful.
Even more, when most of the kids (at least the ones that came from Portugal) when they go to England fail miserable, and it's just wasted talent. Ending up in the lower divisions or out of football in a few years.

FIFA should look at this.
