It'll be a fascinating season either way. It's going to be a balance of the following:
The good:
- Van Gaal is proven, confident and has to be better than Moyes
- I think both Shaw and Herrera are good signings and will immediately improve the first XI
- Moyes is gone, hopefully lifting his gloom at OT
- We have some genuinely good youth players, Wilson, Powell and possibly even Lingaard will surprise some people this season
- Carrick, Fellaini, RVP, Hernandez and Nani HAVE to have better seasons than last year. All massively underperformed given their proven ability
- Bebe
The bad:
- We have lost Giggs, Rio, Vida and most likely Evra. That is an almost unprecedented amount of experience and trophies to lose in a single summer. Any team will struggle with that loss
- Our defence is now just Rafael, Smalling, Jones, Evans, Shaw. 4 sick-notes and a kid. Poor De Gea.
- RVP still seems out of sorts to me. Had about 90 minutes of good football at the WC, but I'm not sure how good he'll be this year
- Our biggest strength is all focused on the same area (De Gea aside): How does anyone fit Rooney, Mata, Kagawa, RVP, Welbeck and Janujaz in?
- Our ego is gone. We need a good start to get that going again. Good news is that the mysterious fixture computer appears to love narrative, in its completely random in no way influenced by the desire for excitement way.
The ugly:
