Manchester United Thread

Kind of looking forward to being a declining club, so people will finally begin to talk about United fans in terms of sticking with the club and having respect for the great history and heritage as opposed to "ah, they only sing when they're winning".

But seriously, Moyes is in and I will call for him to be sacked only if he takes the decision to sell Rooney, Kagawa and RvP while Playing Vida and Rio up front with Giggs in goal, then we can blame him.

I'm annoyed that we haven't signed anyone, but I think that's more because it seems like the board are trying to link us with anyone and everyone as opposed to Moyes looking at targets (and I will admit I made him a scapegoat) without him making signings I feel a little unsure of him in the market because we have no comparison material for what he looks for in players.

Nani and Evans injured? Are they serious or knocks?

Some of u folks need to drink more. It helps.
Hey we could've been Inter Milan.. Then I'd be worried. Considering Bebe played again I'm starting to think Moyes is just joking around.

The return of the Bebe! And you know what, he wasn't that awful. Delivered more crosses in 10 minutes than Ashley Young did last season. He's also massive, and really, really fast. Unfortunately, he can't really control a football, or dribble, or pass, or shoot. But hey, for 7m would do you expect?

Positives:
- Ando played 90 minutes (well) and looked fine in the last 15. Could Moyes finally get him in shape?
- First time I've seen Henriquez surrounded by first teamers and he was very, very interesting. Fantastic movement and some genuinely good play too. Starting to see why we rushed through a deal for him. Had doubted he'd get any minutes with the first team this season, but if Rooney goes...
- Nani was brilliant for 25 minutes.
- Vida lasted the 90

Negatives
- Nani broke after 25 minutes
- Evans broke after 55 mintue
- We conceded another wonder goal, and drew
- Zaha's end product was shocking (assist aside)
- RVP has looked oddly not clinical in preseason, missed 2 or 3 great chances
- Moyes played Giggs for almost 70 minutes

United will probably win their first 10 games and all the doom around this thread will go away!

If we win our 1st 10 games we'll walk the league. Our schedule is ridiculously front loaded. I think we play 5 of the 6 'big' matches in the first 9, then only Arsenal for the rest of the time before xmas.

If we're anywhere near the top at the beginning of October, we'll be in good shape.

But what I actually will happen is we'll have a slow start, lose to Chelsea and City and be told the end is nigh, Moyes is crap, United are finally done and so forth.

Then we'll very quietly slip up back into the top 4 around New Years, and end up finishing 3rd. Which is no small feat, and hopefully Moyes can build on that while Platini makes up his mind if FFP is something that will actually exist.

Also, apparently chatter coming out of Belgium (and I know he's in the US) that Fellaini deal is almost done. Still think it's awesome if so, he's really going to bring something to our first XI.

And he should get a haircut so he can actually use peripheral vision.

I agree, I don't think he s a great player, but he is a great utility player bringing some much needed fire to the game. We need players the likes if him and Nani to light a fire under our butts. Last season we should have had several more blowout wins but for 90% of the game we seemed to act like we were just trying to not get too tired so there d be some energy left for the wife or girlfriend(s) at the end of the day.

As I mentioned before as well, he d bring some real aerial threat without requiring Jones, Vidic or Ferdinand to take over the big man role (tho it often seemed like little Evra got to it first). RvP and, maybe Rooney corners and free kicks and corners are made for that big head of his.

He'd also bring some aerial protection to midfield. An oft unnoticed trend last season was that he'd almost always concede possession on opponent (and ours) goal kicks to the centre circle. It's not a huge part of the game in terms of scoring chances, but it helps to control tempo and prevent opportunities arising from knock ons.

Doesn't make much sense.

Go after Thiago and Fabregas, two excellent passers of the ball, who can thread clever little ppasses into the area, a la Mata and Silva, and then end up signing a big man whose passing is below par.

Youre right n that sense. I don't believe we ever actually went after Thiago though, the Fabregas rumor was around way before that oneand interest was publicly acknowledged. Unless iI missed it the interest in Thiago was not but I could've missed something. Wouldn't Rooney make a great passing midfielder? *runs away*

Maybe Moyes isn't looking at passing and instead is just looking at goals from midfield. Fabregas gets goals and Fellaini got 11 last year.

He's a decent player and will add a bit of 'fuck you' to the midfield but I'd be looking at a playmaker, eg. Modric, to partner Carrick, personally.

Not been impressed with Kagawa, but maybe he'll come good in his 2nd year.

Carrick---Fellaini

------Kagawa-------

is potentially quite balanced looking to me. Won't lie tho, I'm relieved Fabregas isn't going to be in a Utd shirt

Or you could use the Rooney money to get both and do a 'yaya' with Fellaini.

---Carrick----Modric---

------Fellaini

I was amazed when reading your post, since i haven't heard a thing about an imminent Fellaini transfer to United (of course there are on and off rumours for some months now).
I've just done a search through websites of knowledgeable websites (Belgian papers, Belgian sports channels, etc...). I'm sorry to disappoint you, but no mention at all about a transfer...not a word.

I'm not saying that Fellaini will not go to United, but i'm quite adamant that there is absolute silence about an imminent transfer...

I doubt were after him Gerd, its fans putting 1+1 = 11 thinking that because our manager is Moyes he must sign the best player from his previous club.

Saw things on RedCaf and Twitter start murmuring that it had leaked through Belgium sources, but fair enough that could be wrong.

Hoping he's not the only player we get, and I know there are reservations about him, but he fulfills a hole in our team so I'll take him.

Expensive and overpriced of course, but we're United. It's how we do business, sadly.

I doubt he'll start the community shield though, will be interesting who Moyes goes with in the middle. Anderson has played a lot of minutes in preseason, hoping it'll be Carrick and him in there, with Kagawa in front of them. But, could see Giggs getting the start too.

Ah, I'm back to being blind happy. Anderson finding form will be superior to a new signing anyway, and up top Angelo will be RvN come again while Nani will certainly become the winger we know he can be.

Defence, maybe a new left back.. but Evra seems to get away by the skin of his teeth so no problems really.. and Rafael will be a class above again next year (and maybe his defending will reflect it too, he's great in terms of work ethic and tackling but his positioning is questionable at best!)

Moyes, get top 4 this year and I'm happy enough!

Luke Shaw would probably be a good option as a long term replacement for Evra, although I'd like to see Fabio get plenty of gametime this season.

How good is he? Something that we need to replace with Evra would be his dribbling ability, he adds so much to our attack because of that.

Thoughts: Yay, the season is starting this weekend!
*scurries off to check fixtures*

WTF?

Away to Swansea - where like 2 teams win a year
Home to Chelsea - probably before we've signed anyone
Away to Liverpool - great, thanks for that
Home to Palace - Finally, a home banker
Away to City - Seriously?!

Random computer algorithm my ass.

Wayne Rooney’s camp have informed Arsenal that the player has made up his mind to join Chelsea, sources close to the negotiations have told ESPN.

Don't know how reliable that is. No quotes or anything so.....bullshit until told otherwise? Really I don't get why he'd leave.

He's not going anywhere. And even if he is, the only English team I'd love to sell him to is Pool.
