Manchester United Thread

Is it just me? I'd much prefer us to go for someone like De Rossi (especially now Roma have Strootman signed up) or Gundogan over Fabregas. And for £35m?
Mind you, if the rumours about Spurs valuing Bale as being worth £20m+ more than Ronaldo are true...

De Rossi over Fabregas?

Gundogan I could get behind but even then I'd say Fabregas is a proven talent in the Premiership. He'd be an incredible signing.

Watched Roma last night - Strootman was pretty handy. Played like (and on my TV looks like) Carrick, just kept things ticking over, connecting attack and defense and being a shield when required. Would have been a good understudy, but I'm not sure how well they would have worked together. And we can't really afford 17m for an understudy.

Another week goes by, another week without a midfielder. I'm starting to think Woodward just doesn't know enough to sign anyone. Hopefully he'll be back to managing things he knows by January, but this has been a pretty spectacular failure by the Glazers - hire a buddy who doesn't have any experience, buddy fails.

Interesting timeline from FLNews

"In this meeting #MUFC clearly stated to #Ronaldo that he is the guy that they want to come in and fill the void left by Sir Alex Ferguson"

The hero Old Trafford deserves but not the one it needs right now (Fabregas) ;))

I guess the question will arise if/when Madrid get Bale. They'd almost have to offload at least one serious attacking talent of Ronaldo, Ozil, Di Maria etc.

Plus the financial situation (how Madrid can afford to pay 100m pounds!) might indicate they're planning a big sale or two.

But, I've given up hope this summer. I think I'm better at signing players than Ed f*cking Woodward, and that's only because of years of Career Mode in PES.

How can RM afford 100m? they bought £70m:
Carvajal (Leverkusen)

Casemiro (Sao Paulo)

Ancelotti (PSG)

Isco (Málaga)

Illarramendi (Real Sociedad)

They sold about £55m:

Carvalho (Mónaco), Higuaín, Callejón y Albiol (Nápoli).

I`m sure Angel di Maria y Fabio Coentrao : £30m combine (if sold)

Bale £87m + Kondogbia £15m(when bought)

good faith estimate :

ins(£172m) out(£85m) profits (-£87m) .

Ozil and Ronaldo are much beter players than Bale. That amount of money is always madness, but if you invest it you do it for players like Zidane, Messi or Ronaldo. Not Bale (and i like him a lot). Perez is an idiot.

Still, 87m net is like twice their annual profits!

And @ Gerd - one thing we agree on: Perez is indeed an idiot. But clearly a good politician.

Not wanting to be a transfer muppet, but given the relative inactivity, thought I'd check in and see what ourselves and our key competitors have done in the past 2 seasons:

Utd: RVP, Zaha, Kagawa, Buttner (Powell, Varela, Henrique, Goss)
Arsenal: Podolski, Giroud, Carzorla, Monreal, Sanogo
City: Rodwell, Sinclair, Nastasic, Maicon (gone), Garcia, Navas, Fernadinho, Negredo, Jovetic (Faour, Dyer, Donyoh)
Chelsea: Marin, Hazard, Oscar, Aspilicueta, Moses, Ba, Schurrle, van Ginkel, Schwarzer (Wallace, Cuevas, T. Hazard)

So in terms of 1st team signings:
United [4], Arsenal [5], Chelsea [9], City [8]

So it's not quite as big a contrast as I had thought. Just feels like we never sign anyone (other than RVP, obviously)

We invest in a quite a bit of youth though so a lot of our talents bought slowly grow into the players we want.

I mean how longs it been since we've been posting 'fantasy' back fours for the next 10 years such as
'Rafael-Smalling-Jones-Fabio'

CM is the obvious exclusion to that list and I suspect we'll add to that soon enough.

I don't see why your all panicking, had we signed Fellaini 3 weeks ago and now be sitting on our hands while say Fabregas or higher caliber players became available people would be moaning about that too.

It's not just as easy as FIFA/FM make out to complete big name signings, it clearly takes a lot of time.

I won't be assessing were everyone stands till August 17th or even till September 2nd.

Right on Younggun. I have hope we still might be in for a happy surprise or two this transfer window.

Btw..looking at that picture w Pepsi reminded me of something I've noticed many, if not every time now; RvP is just about never in any of the sponsorhip pictures, wonder if there is some contractual issue there or if having him in the pic would mean the sponsor would have to pay HIM personally? lol :BOP:

Put in spoiler tags as it is a bit of off-topic:

Easy. Florentino is one of the most influential persons of the right wing party in Spain. The previous time he was chairman, the government overpriced some terrains and did very shady movements to build towers (built by Florentino company) and ended up GIVING 1.000 M€ to the club. Money all of us (spanish) have paid. Analysts considered at least 75% of that price was pure overpricing at the time.

All this money disappeared in some years, now they're milking the last drops until they can do the next "coup" and STEAL again public money from all of us, which they will do with their next move "Bernabeu reformation". Just wait and see.

Those are the thieves that have carved our countrty hollow by robbing public money.

Do you know where the money from CR7 came? Bankia. A bank controlled by PP (right wing party) which later on needed a public rescue and one of the most important actors of the real state bubble in Spain.

I know you Man Utd fans may be a bit concerned by the lack of transfers, but really, I respect a lot more your club way of doing things and the fact that (as long as I am aware of) Manchester United doesn't resort to steal public money in order to finance football transfers.

It's impossible to buy class, and very easy to lose it.

So, through corruption ...Perez's arrogance comes from his ability to stay in power. I love how the Marca portraits him as a hero going to Columbia and helping chrildren in footy camps . RM can send anyone most clubs send x-players to repersent the club. Arsenal use Pires n Fredrik Ljungberg to help footy camps and you won't see media covering nothing. I'm sure other clubs does the same . I remember Chelsea sending Shawn Wrightphilips to Jamaica help promote footy camps .

Can#t really compare Ozil and Bale. Bale is all about power, pace and goal scoring. Ozil is finesse and assists

All 3 can play in the same team anyway.

------Ronaldo-------

Isco---Bale---Ozil

Scary shit

watching RM last few friendly you see Ronaldo w/ massive pace to the left and no one in the box :CONFUSE: Bale will bang goals for fun!

He doesn't, not now anyway while he's still at the peak of his powers, it would be crazy to move Ronaldo to accommodate Bale.

I suspect they'll play with no No.9 and Bale from the right.

I figure they'll attempt to recreate the Barca false 9 system, and utilise Isco down the middle and allowing the front three pure fluidity..

Ronaldo's never impressed as a lone striker. don't think he likes to play that role anyway.

Not many winger can transform to a ST ! Titi looked very uncomfortable too. Wenger made him stick to it! through time he used his winger abilities to his advantage , was the fastest dribbler on the ball in his days in the EPL. Ronaldo could be the same... if he sticks by it . He has the header ability already.RVP was a LW and a CF, Wenger made him a ST too, after time Mutd was wanking over the prospect even put Rooney on the bench.

I always figured Ronnie would end up as a striker in his 'later' career. Has all the attributes, and scores a goal a game from the wing right now.

At some point he'll undoubtedly lose a bit of pace, but he'll always have his technique and sheer scoring desire.

Given Benzema has been kind of underwhelming and Higuain is gone, would make some sense to stick him up front if they get Bale.

Henry is a good example indeed, bebo. I do agree with beach here, though. Ronaldo still has a hell of pace and wouldn't want to limit his playing area to a place surrounded by so many defenders. but when he lose his pace and agility he will probably do a 'RvP' leaving the 'free' role and switch to ST. one thing here, RvP was actually 'forced' to play a more advanced role because the injuries got to him and his flair. Also, Henry's touch and close control in narrow areas were well superior to Ronaldo's and that helped him a lot too.

tbh, I never believe that there's such thing as false 9. imo, it was just Messi and his pure awesomeness.

Yeah I think he will but that's about 4-5 years away when he's 32-33. I don't think he'll find the idea of playing a limited role like that in his prime.

You're probably right to be honest. Will be interesting.

This might turn into the great cocktease summer for the EPL. Rooney, Suarez, Bale all rumored to move, and none of them do. Cavani and Falcao rumored to join the league, and neither do.

We'd be wise to keep an eye on the good players who are being pushed down the pecking order by these big transfers, like Gustavo at Bayern, Di Maria and Modric at Real Madrid if the Bale transfer goes through etc.
