Manchester United Thread

I don't think Rooney will ever be a truly world class central midfielder - he's just not a specialist there. He can do a job without a doubt - he's that good - but as a club we have hte highest revenue in the world. We shouldn't be looking to convert strikers, centre backs and left wingers into central midfielders.

Also, Falcao's goals/assist per minute ratio this season is actually LOWER than Hernandez. So there's some food for thought.

Hmm, except Hernandez would probably have lower ratios if he also played every minute.. I don't know so don't take it as fact but I'd assume Falcao has played many more minutes than Herndez.

Yeah I agree. Goal:minute is a poor stat that doesn't really convey anything at all really.

I think Falcao offers an incredible aerial threat that United haven't had for a while. Both are great finishers, although Falcao has that tremendous long range shot as well. He's a lot more dimensional than most other strikers in the world (certainly more than Chicharito). He's pretty good at picking the ball up a bit higher up the pitch, taking a couple of steps and then hitting a longer ball for teammates too.

But I just don't see where united are gonna hit him in, unless (as was suggested earlier) united move to 2 upfront with RVP playing behind him. That front two will just be crazy.

It seems Atletico are desperately trying to sell him to a non-Spanish (i.e. non-Madrid :D) team, so maybe united can get a decent deal.

Regarding Rooney... I always thought he would be a better Attacking mid than where he used to play upfront. His passing is incredible... but SAF has a bit of a logjam especially with Kagawa and he's been shuffling them on to the left side/right side/center trying to find the sweetest combination.

I dunno - UTD have so much depth in terms of attacking players its incredible. I don't think its particularly cheap either. A lot of talent being wasted on the bench. I imagine Rooney wants a continuation of his original contract... but Man U will try and drop the price as much as possible given he is starting barely half the time. Opens the door for PSG certainly. Probably time for SAF to do a little spring cleaning, and shore up the center of the park/defence instead.

Isco is the guy to get at the minute for us IMO, the Falcao thing is basically to drum up interest from Chelsea and Man City.

Isco is a fantastix LITTLE footballer, and I emphasized the Little because I don't think he's ready in terms of physicality to even consider a move to the premier league he'd be knocked round fair too often and shy away from the game imo. Of course I'm not an expert, so maybe one of the more La Liga based posters can shed light

Falcao is probably a 'name on a list' style of thing, Ferguson probably had a list of 'if I wanted this position I would get this player' and its been blown out of proportion because of his status in world footballl today.

I'd break the bank for Gündoğan.

Agreed, he's a brilliant passer and is a swift mover on the ball, though I have doubts on his defensive side of the game he does offer a highly energetic work rate.
I saw one German pundit describe him as Schweinsteiger with an engine. Suggesting that he basically can do everything schweinsteiger can but also run as well.

Interesting, first time in as long as I can remember that we're going to get to see what a lot of people (including me, given the wingers' form) believe is our 'first XI' tonight:

-------------De Gea------------
--Rafa----Rio----Vida---Evra---
--------Carric----Jones--------
---Valencia--Kagawa---Rooney---
--------------RVP--------------

In theory that's a beaut of a lineup, let's see what happens in practice! WHU are not our favourite opponents, and we don't love the up and at em approach. Could see Carroll scoring here.

Hmm, nice line up however I would prefer Kagawa out on the left he's so much better there imo.

He will be on the left, at least that's what I think.

In addition, here's the official line up from ManUtd.com:

De Gea; Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra; Valencia, Jones, Carrick, Kagawa; Rooney, van Persie

So actually Kagawa is listed in the midfield and Rooney as a striker. :)

That's ridiculous from Carroll. Not even a card from the ref. If that was Rooney it would already be on repeat on Sky news.

Dirty as f*ck. It's going to take a keeper getting seriously hurt for the rules to change.

Carroll makes up for his lack of skill with being a c*nt. I look forward to his big fee to LFC being a trivia question in 3 seasons when he's over weight and out of the top level.

Sooner he's gone the better. Unfortunately he will probably end up at stoke once crouch retires, the place where football goes to die.

Great goal from Diame.

We're playing like a team on the beach. Then again, I've not seen West Ham play this well for about 6 months. They love playing United.

Carroll trying to win Liverpool supporters hart :SMUG:

Mhmm. Love the way he tried to use his feet but just fell over, excellent..

Carroll will never have a place in the Liverpool team Coutinho, Suarez and Sturridge will make sure of that. Another couple of players I would like to see next season from you would be Yesil, Suso and Morgan (is it?) Saw them latter two in your preseason games and Yesil impressed in his time at Bayer Leverkusen. Also it would good to see Lucas Leiva get back to his best.

RVP miles offside ...where's the shouts of injustice gone on here?

Hmm, if there was some Hammers fans to cone and complain then there would he your shouts of injustice and I like to think the United fans would be man enough to step and admit he was offside, but with every supporter of any club we aren't going to complain for something that benefits us. The pysche of a football fan is an intriguing thing don't you think?

Yep, offside. But Carroll shouldn't have been anywhere near the pitch for the last 40 minutes, so I'll take that as balancing out.

We've had 4 goals ruled off for offside already this season that were actually on. So we're still due 3 more :)
