Manchester United Thread

They used to call him Tinkerbell. Tbf, he normally gets it right but sometimes he'll leave you scratching his head.

His reluctance to utilise Kagawa is a strange one.

A downhill since the Madrid match. Stoke, Villa, West Ham - must win.
That would do it.

Fergie doesn't like the easy way. Last year, he showed us, didn't he?

I f*cking love Kagawa. His stats this season are phenomenal - he AVERAGES higher than 90% pass completion, and when the report I saw was put together had a higher goals/assist ratio per minute than almost any player in the premier league.

Why he is sitting on the bench while Giggs, Welbeck and Young faff around pretending to be footballers blows my mind.

It's nights like this (and many, many over the last 2 seasons) where I genuinely wonder what a different manager would do with this squad. Obviously they wouldn't have Fergie's gravitas and sheer will (which is the only reason we're where we are) but they also presumably wouldn't do these batsh*t crazy formations and personnel decisions.

The last time Fergie went mental with a formation and it worked was Arsenal with 6 defenders, ages ago. Since then he's tinkered with the proverbial 'square pegs in round holes' and been found wanting in every big match.

I don't know if it is better than City's rather awesome (when all fit like today) team, but I do know that playing players in position tends to be more fluent and lead to better results. We could have lined up:
-----------DDG-------------
--Rafael--Rio--Jones-Evra--
------Carrick-Cleverley----
----------Kagawa-----------
--Valencia----------Rooney-
-----------RVP-------------

I really, really doubt that would have been worse than 40 year old Giggs lending his 'experience' and 'cool head' instead of legs (clever back heel) and Welbeck running brilliant from halfway until the final third...and then always making the wrong decision.

Our most 'in form' players over hte past month have been Kagawa (assists and a hat trick) and Hernandez. Neither of whom basically featured in this.

Is he resting the little technical players for our next match...at Stoke?!

Call me cynical, but sometimes I wonder in games like these if he does this on purpose to win bets.

Speaking of him being a crazy old man, let's have a quick look at our midfields in our last 7 league defeats:

Newcastle 0-3 - Carrick/Giggs
Wigan 0-1 - Carrick/Giggs
City 0-1 - Carrick/Scholes/Giggs
Everton 0-1 - Cleverley/Scholes
Spurs 2-3 - Carrick/Scholes/Giggs
Norwich 0-1 - Carrick/Giggs
City 1-2 - Carrick/Giggs

Now admittedly I'm a statistician by profession, so for mere mortals it might be tough, but there's a pattern there. I'm not going to ruin it for anyone, it's like those magic eye images.

You need to stop playing Carrick.....;))

Should we 'like' and 'share' when we get it?

If we don't sign a solid, young, hopefully world-class in the making midfielder (and pretty please maybe another winger if Nani or Valencia leaves) in the summer and Mourinho returns to Chelski, I'll throw the towel in the ring before the next season even starts.

Agreed, and the best bit is.. fergie is again targeting a STRIKER over the positions we need (if the papers are to be believed) I am seriously beginning to wonder if he's stuck in 2006-7 believing we need to replace van Nistelrooy at the end of every season!!

That away day in Milan was pretty painful too. Shame this season has literally fizzled out, yet were still on course to win the title but literally have no buzz left because of our position.

hopefully the player's don't feel that way and we keep scraping through to the finish line. :ANX:

This season isn't over, Stoke is make or break if they grind out a draw or a win then city win the race will be blown straight back up, painful as it would be I can see us slipping up to the point of losing on the Final Day, by the means of our GD again.. haunting to think its a possibility, albeit a slim one.

Rooney as AMF today is wonderful to see. Kagawa on the wing seems interesting..looks like he was told to pull inside and doing a lot of running as a result of it. With this wind we probably don't want to rely on crosses over the flanks anyway. Based on the lineup today SAF is looking to tear Stoke apart, let's hope it works. Were due for a blowout victory after the past let downs!

Much better performance from the lads today. Controlled.

Stoke were fucking abysmal and the sooner they fuck off out of the Prem the better for everyone concerned.

Great to see RVP finally end his dry spell even if it was a penalty, even better to see him celebrate with SAF and all the staff.

Phil Jones is going to be some player

with there was a vid of the entire celebration, it's nice to see that kind of positive emotion in the game. One does wonder if Wenger saw this and was painfully reminded of all the man hugs RvP used to give him instead.

And I agree about Jones..he's a beast. It's easy to forget how young he still is. If he continuous to improve he can become a big one for us.

I dont think this has anything else ,but the fact he scored a goal. I`m sure Mutd fans are seeing the deep loving emotions RVP has for the club. I think Wenger is happier that he bought RVP 1.5 m and sold him for 24m !:))

In 2 years he`ll be playing for Sunderland and that`s the truth whether he was at Arsenal or MUTD !
Seeing that hug looks more awkward for SAF

Its awkward to see that despite the hug every man across the globe saw, RvP left Sir Alex Ferguson hanging for a hi5 that's a transfer request if ever I saw one :P

Haha..sadly enough that wouldn't even surprise me that much with SAF. Kinda funny though SAF himself said Robin could have killed him with that.

Guess its looking likely United can clinch the title against Arsenal. Oh sweet irony. Would RvP not celebrate again? (i have a slight weak spot for the Gunners however so hope we don't have to rub it in against them..especially BC I could actually see us lose that game, and it would be nicer to take it at Old Trafford):BRMM:

Well suckernet seem to have gone all out on this Rooney to PSG thing... whats you manc fans take on it?

Has Rooney's relationship with SAF really down the drain? Is his wages causing the owner's bellyache?

Is there any truth in the rumours or is suckernet spinning a yearn again?

No, just no is the general idea, Rooney strikes me a the type of player who has ambitions with his career, PSG is a step down in leagye and club quality and I don't think he'd go there. If Barca or Bayern came calling then thwres more chance butUnited are safe so long as Rooney hasn't gone out of his way to leave the club and PSG are the only club chasing down his signature.

The PSG stuff makes some sense, but all the sounds I hear from England say Rooney is staying, and wants a new contract to boot.

I'm a big fan of Rooney on the pitch and would be delighted if he stays and sorts his fitness out, but could see Fergie getting rid. Especially if there's any truth to these bizarre Falcao rumors.

If we buy another friggin striker instead of a midfielder I'm officially declaring Fergie senile.

Continue to mold Rooney into an AMF... Play RvP behind Falcao (a role he is used to playing) .. Bam, 1,2,3 punch :-)
