Manchester United Thread

If it means snatching a point then yep!

Little scared that the recent leggy/knackered performances will kick in again

We've been pretty woeful for almost a month now. Need Fergie to put a boot up their a$$. You'd of thought they wouldn't need incentive for a derby, but players these days ;)

Complacency has set in to be honest.

Shouldn't considering what happened last year and the fact they've used last year as motivation for this season but still, it has.

Fucking annoying.

Hope we go out and batter them but I can really see them winning and us playing absolutely awful.

Agreed, almost everyone has seemed lethargic in the recent games.
Like I've said before I can't see how Valencia is picked constantly over Nani, and more recently Van Persie I feel he should be dropped like any other striker would have been if they'd went 8 or 9 games without a goal and only one assist to show for contribution to the team in the same period. Personally, I can not stand welbeck but if needs to be just to have some energy and commitment in the final third him and Hernandez should be played (unless Rooney is back from injury, in which case Rooney and Hernandez) it just comes across that fergie is, I have to word this correctly, reluctant to drop RvP because of the price tag and the influence he had at the start of the year almost as if he fears a fan/media backlash if he did take that step.
And honestly, Evra? I see the fact he's trying every game, but he's becoming more of a defensive liability with every season. I was impressed with Buttner in the last league game and I think he should be given the run of games he deserves.
The only players who with the exception of a shaky start to the season I can't fault in any way is Carrick and De Gea, one for the calming influence he holds over the middle of the park (although there is still the tendency to lose it when under pressure) and consistent performance in every game. And the other for some vital savesand keeping the side in it and for playing despite constant media critiscism which at most times has been unfounded through this season.

Also sad to read in the (admittedly in certain source) Mirror that Nani may find himself searching for a new club after "a poor performance vs Chelsea convinced United to cut their losses" and we mat sell him outright to make space for Zaha next year or a Player+Cash deal for highly rated James Rodriguez.

So we just signed a new 8 year contract with AON to have them on our training shirts (rather than DHL) and the training ground will be called AON Training Complex. To be honest, I'd much rather keep AON on our official kits than Chevrolet...I just don't see how that would look nice at all.

Back to the game tonight. I really don't think we will win it. Our guys are so complacent, I just don't see the fight in them anymore.

Agreed, the two players I most trust to 'be up for it' are Rooney and Vida - and both are injured and may not play. United really are still missing some steel and a real winner in the midfield.

Could be a tough week - this then two away games against, erm, robust opponents in Stoke and West Ham. League's certainly not done yet, just hope Ferige manages to remind the players of that.

Think City will win 1-3. Am concerned about Mike Dean, but what can you do. At least it's not Atkinson.

Well bugger, Vidic and Evans both out. First start for Jones in central defence this season? Certainly in the past 4 or 5 months.

And the sheer power and speed of Giggsy and Carrick in central midfield. Toure, Barry, Milner and Silva won't know what hit em.

Welbeck, Rooney and RVP all starting tho

:PUKE:

I always feel confident about derbies right p until about 20mins before kickoff :P

Yep, feeling the same :)

Think you'll still edge it, am now panicked about our bi-annual defensive crisis. No Evans, Vidic or Smalling in the squad. So when Jones gets his 'every match' injury, it'll be Carrick in defence. That always goes well!

Fergie is just a monster with random formations these days. No idea what he's up to. Giggs in a midfield against the best in the country? Sure. Young playing? Sure, with the last 3 months he's had.

Haha, just saw that the last time we fielded a Jones/Ferdinand CB pairing was over a year ago, when we lost 3-0 to Newcastle. Excellent.

Well that was predictably woeful.

This team has a lot of promise, but I have no idea what has happened to Fergie. If we hold on and win the league, it'll be in spite of him once again. He ruined the end of last season with terrible teams and an inability to change matches, and he's sleep walking through this one.

If RVP hadn't had a purple patch, there'd be more attention on it.

But Giggs for 90 minutes? No subs til the 65th and when we're losing? In all seriousness I wonder about him these days. It's not that he makes the odd mistake - all managers do - it's that he makes the same mistakes over and over and over and over.

Great Aguero goal, mind, and Phil Jones looked good.

The last 15-18 minutes of normal time where something special marred in truth by some needlesslu rash play from both sets of players.
I can honestly see us throwing away this title you know, pessimistic but honest.

Me too. I have such a love/hate relationship with this current iteration of Ferguson.

He clearly can still put together a great team spirit, but he has been utter garbage when it's mattered for two seasons now.

Park and Giggs last year in our most important match, Giggs playing 90 minutes everytime we f*cking lose and him not doing anything about it. I genuinely wonder if he's still all there.

Now hearing that Mourinho to Chelsea is done and dusted...next season could be woeful. And that's if we manage to crawl across the finish line this year.

On an up note, some of our younger players look like they'll be alright. Welbz, Jones, Rafael, DDG - all really good.

It's important to remember we had to start a defensive pairing for the first time in more than 14 months AND put a 40 year old in central midfield, yet still lost to the best first XI out there only 2-1.

Where's the Mourinho confirmation? Could you give a link, must have missed it :P

As for the team, it they continue to put in some frankly lackluster performance in the middle of the park especially against teams such as West Ham and Stoke (who are our next opponents sadly) I can see us dropping 4, 5 or maybe all 6 points we seem to have lost a spark in the team, although there is the chance this loss will act as a catalyst to push through the season on a high. I think some investment in the Keane (yeah I know, old story and same old lines) position is vital. We need some steel and leadership, even in times where its getting difficult or we same to be letting it go easy, just to put players in their place.

I Honestly don't think we'll slip up at all, looking at the fixture list, i'd happily take ours over there's, tottenham away? no thank's. 12 points is far to huge a gap for city to come back at this point in the season especially with what fixtures are left.

Oh Phil Jones, I love your gurns:

I'd be more comfortable but City will be playing Tottenham without Bale and Lennon, which means Tottenham will not win. They literally don't win when Bale isn't there.

I'm pretty sure bale is marked around to comeback on that date they play city or just after so it's close and i thought lennon just came back from injury last week or so?

Still don't think city are guaranteed the points at white hart, tottenham have player's who can come in and play and in fairness, i think they're at a bigger loss when dembele isn't in the team more than bale for me personally.

Almost ironically poetic, seeing as how a couple of years ago they could not win when Bale was in the side :P

8 goal deficit will naturally disappear if you catch up on points, i don't think its over. rooney is shit and rvp doesnt score anymore. also the game was dull as shit.

He seems to make very very strange decisions in very big matches. The CL final vs Barca a few years ago he started with a strange midfield. Last year admittedly, in unimportant matches, he had Berbatov playing in a defensive role and Carrick at center back in one game. The big clanger last season was dropping Rooney for Blackburn at your place. I've no idea why he brought on Valencia for you, why take Wellbeck off or even if you do why not bring on Kagawa instead of Valencia (who has been in very average form) instead of just giving Kagawa a handful of mins.
