Manchester United Thread

So anyone have the team that will start against Bayern Munich tonight?

I know Howard, Smith, Keane and Giggs will all start, but I don't know about the rest.

Aren't the Nevilles gonna be there too? I'm sure Gary would start.

And doesn't this match clash with the Copa America final?...who cares, I'm watching the Man U game.

Speaking of the Neville's they have both signed new 5 year contracts, which means Sir Gary will be 34 when it expires!!!

also roy keane has claimed he is still better than Steven Gerrard

A portuguese newspaper anounces today that Rui Costa will play in ManUtd in the next 2 years...you heard anything about this? I hope it's true ;)

Hope not hes past it!

Need some younger players not people who are older than people in the squad already Tevez for example!

Tho Rui Costa is quality!

And in two years time Sir Alex wont be the manager so that must be crap!

Went to the pub with every intention to watch the game but was distracted and missed the feckin thing, didnt seem to miss much by the sounds of it but still.......

I wasnt gonna get giddy about this tour anyway, last year we did well but then had a poor season so its best to just see what happens when we've got a full squad.

Good to see Keano laying the law down about the pretenders to his crown, he's the one with the medals so the rest can get to feck!!

surely Paddy's medal's list musta be more impressive than Keano's, yeah he aint won the CL, but he's done everything else, inc internationally. . . .I'm not saying Keane's a bad player, i just dont think he can influence a game the way he used to.

Well of course Paddy has got the international medals but he played for France, Keano wasnt really gone win anything wih the Republic, doesnt make him less of a player.

Other than that Keano is miles ahead of him interms of influence, all the european expeirence, leading the team, scoring in the big games, Paddy has never done on the big stage, his record in Europe shows that.

Nah...

AC Milan's sporting director Ariedo Braid

"It's nonsense. Rui Costa is staying at Milan and he is non-transferable.''

hey guys, can i know alan smith's squad number in man utd..and all those new signings...
just wondering

First things first...my personal views about the Man Utd vd Bayern game.Strangely enough,I have never seen us playing 3-5-2 before, but that was the formation for the game. Here is how they lined up.

------------------------Carroll------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------
------------------------Keane-------------------------
------------McShane-----------Spector--------------
--------------------------------------------------------
Bardsley----------------------------------Richardson
--------------------Djemba-Djemba-----------------
--------------------------------------------------------
------------Eagles---------------------Djordjic-------
--------------------------------------------------------
-------------------Smith------------------------------
-----------------------------------Bellion-------------

Keane playing as a sweeper infront of two superb stoppers in McShane and Spector.Bardsley looked energetic in that right wingback position and Richardson did look adventurous albeit some poor crosses.Djemba-Djemba was brilliant for me,breaking up play so oftenly, superb balance and simple passes.Eagles and Djordjic did well too with some mazy dribbles and long range shootings from either.Alan Smith never gave the Bayern backline a second to breathe and in white,he lookes like he is still playing for Leeds! Tenacious as ever,I have never seen a striker execute a lunging defensive tackle, won it and gain control back of possession,so perfectly well. The only letdown for this team was Bellion,he looked lost, thats it,I couldnt figure out what his best position was.Carroll looked as reliable, steady as ever with one noticeble flying save.Great game for the fledglings and big ups to them, too bad that a full strength Bayern squad couldnt beat our kids after 90 mins.

Man of the Match - 3 candidates for me.
1.Keane,for playing so well out of position.
2.Spector,cool,calm,confident youngster that has two great foot.
3.Djemba-Djemba,lasting 90 mins looking as energetic as ever, strong and keeps the play simple.

Alan Smith wears number 14 and that should means that Tim Howard should get the number 1 jersey.

PEACE OUT.

Fully agree. This was also the first time I seen Djordjic play and it looks like those loan spells have done him good.

What's the word on Spector. Thought he was great in front of the hometown fans. Is he gonna see the pitch this year?

I think with Heinze's departure to the olympics,Fergie's gonna draft Spector to the first team next season. The lad is young, confident on the ball and has two great foot, which makes him flexible for any slots at the back.As for Nicky leaving us for the magpies, this was a great move for him to play in the starting eleven week in week out for the Toon Army as the DM position is left empty after Gary Speed's departure.Great move Nicky and I wish you all the best.

Guys, check this out,its really funny and serious at the same time.Got this off manutd.com's forum.

Tim Howard has let slip that Wayne Rooney is part of Sir Alex's plans!! BIG NEWS!!!

Our keeper, Howard, was interveiwed two days ago by FOX TV about United's chance's the upcoming premiership season...This is what he said...

"Alex Ferguson is great at putting the right players in the right places," Howard began. "And with Ruud, Rooney, Smith, Saha we have an outstanding attack."

Howard clearly didn't know what he was saying until the reporter pressed him on it.

"You mentioned Rooney-what's it like in England with the Rooney phenom (sic)?" he probed.

By then it dawned on Howard that he was on dangerous teritory and the back-tracking began. "Erm, he's young, he's a great player. Hopefully we can get, um, get that sorted out because we'd love to have him at the club," he said.

This is a TRUE story and I think that Rooney is supposed to be a SECRET plan that SAF had planed to make the media forget about us trying to get Rooney.

Sir AF covered it up well because he (not long ago) said that our four strikers would be Ruud, Smith, Saha and OLE. But Howard was the first to let it slip that Rooney is part of the plans

This story seems real as lots of people backed the story up,mainly americans whom saw the interview....classic,I guess Scholes will take the number 8 vacated by Butt and Ronney will take 18.

very very very intresting

wahahaha...now that is a GREAT news so far...hahaha

poor howard, hope he doesn't get into deep trouble with Fergs...he is a talented goalkeeper...

and i want to ask, who u think fits to be our number 1 keeper for the coming season?? Howard or Carroll

hm...this talked already?? Rui Costa and a loan to Old Trafford...that would be great, but, where he fit?? unless we play 3-5-2, we won't have much room for this OH...
