Manchester United Thread

Yeah definitely getting a bit anxious regarding it, he's always involved in creating or scoring for us in most matches. his creativity has been so crucial in recent years, infact we've been to reliant on it.

hopefully Kagawa can take some of the workload in that respect.

I don't think Nani will leave. He seems settled, is a key member of the squad and Fergie likes him. He's definitely one of the best in the world at his position - something we can't really claim to have at the moment.

Pretty tough first match, definitely don't have a good feeling going into this one. No idea what our defenders have been doing in training, but losing 4 centre backs at once is just irresponsible.

Can't see us winning this, think it'll be a 2-2.

Just hope if we drop points at Goodison - a hard place at the best of times - with no defence the media don't decide we're f*cked.

There's a lot of potential in this team, if we can keep em fit.

Wow, we're not even starting Rafael at RB. So the defense is:

A player that hasn't played a competitive match since December
A central midfielder
A right winger
Patrice Evra

De Gea must be having nightmares...

yup this is what i was dreading, gotta hope Vidic slots right back in to the team cos that will settle us...

i get that SAF wont/cant buy another CB, we have been unlucky in that area of the team...

maybe SAF just thinks, fuck it "we'll out score you"

I just don't get what is wrong with our young defenders. They should be in their prime, Smalling has basically been injured for the past 12 months.

And Jones, Evans and Rio have hurt themselves while not in matches.

I'm beginning to think the best signing Mancini made (and the reason they'll win the league again) was his fitness team.

Hm I remember an interview with Berbatov where he openly said that in his younger days he played as defender and liked it.

Maybe he is just good at defending ? :D

Game started and my God Kagawa looks absolutely AWESOME!

Kagawa looking amazing right now, a GEM!
Nani raging like a beaut, and a Scholes special tackle all on the openin day.. De Gea has been criticised for flapping when he was fouled an Welbeck (IMO) proving that he's not worth the money we're paying him.

De Gea also looks f**king class. Say he is bad keeper now :D.

Welbeck may not be fitted to play on wings imo, but he definitely can control ball well and hold up to it.

Info, I love De Gea, I mean I've been fighting my friends to prove he's amazing!
He's 21, a baby in terms of keepers.

I don't rate Welbeck, never have.

I'm very harsh on players, I suppose it is because the media has hyped him a beaut since he has played for England, I hate it when a player gets media hype for being a little bit better than average.

And we lost. As I feared most. Without defenders we can't mark tall guys and sorry to say that, Evra looks out of steam, energy. He can run UP the field, but returns slow afterwards.

We need to sort defense asap. Hoping that our youth guys get a run out. They can't be worse than what we have at disposal at the moment anyway

The brightest spot in tonight game? Kagawa. Incredible contribution throughout whole game. He may be MU legend with such attitude!

Great match. United needs to improve their defensive tactics. The old tactics cannot be reused as it has been hacked and easily penetrated.

Didn't deal with Fellaini, same as the 4-4, obviously it was made all the more difficult by having to play Carrick in the back four, I think Valencia was picked for this very reason (ahead of Rafael), to combat the strength and height of Everton. Pressing higher seemed logical, but Everton wouldn't let us till they got the goal.

Attacking play showed some promising signs (Kagawa), we kept the ball well, but creatively we didn't offer a lot, a lot of sideways passing and not enough tempo. Some players were far too hesitant on the ball and gave Everton time to think.

Clearly not all the team were sharp enough, especially compared to Everton. Have to question our pre-season and extensive travelling, I understand the purpose in terms of strengthening our global "brand" *shivers*, but it can't be ideal in terms of preparation.

Oh well, bad start, but I'm not overly worried if we get some defenders fit sooner than later :P

We're missing 5 of our 6 defenders. Probably explains it as much as tactics, to be honest.

Things would have looked different with Carrick in midfield and 2 centre backs at centre back, a right back at right back.

That said, Fellaini is a beast in matches like this. Had help from Andre Marriner who appears to judge fouls by crowd reaction..

It wasn't the tactics, it was the players.. A Right Winger, A Centre Midfield, A Player with no competitive football since December and A Left Back who, as good as he is just gets worse every game he plays.

Rafael would of been a disaster in that game. Smalling or Jones (if in form) would of been nice though, do they play for us still?

Fellaini was good in the first hour, then after that he turned into a thug IMO, fouling everyone and kicking the ball away. Pienaar was the same, turned into a prick excuse my language, after the goal.

RvP should have (hate to say) started down the middle, Nani shows his best form down the left!

Why the fuck didn't Wootton start!
