Manchester United Thread

THIS JUST IN...Robin Van Persie has failed a medical at Manchester United. He has a severely damaged back after carrying a full squad last season.

Ahha ;)

Now, do Man Utd intend to fire all our physios? Van Persie is known for having glass legs... And last season we did have 22(?) players injured throughout it!

Plus paying 20mln pounds for 29 years old is OTT :(.

Such a waste of money on transfer we don't really need. We still need left back and backup MC (would love to see Roy Keane reincarnation :D).

I'm with info0. Not our priority at all.

At least now we HAVE to let the Berbs go play football somewhere. Please Fergie, for the love of the beautiful game.

that transfer opens up so many possiblities for uniteds formation, will ferguson play kagawa rvp and rooney and ditch young and nani like this (rvp no.9)

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

or will he not use wingers at all and play a diamond formation like this

one things for certain, berbatov is now on his way out

Very Keegan-esque transfer policy by Ferguson in buyin forward players. From my point of view, Utd's weaknesses were Central Midfield, Full backs and an injury prone CB area.

RVP, Kagawa (and Moura, tho he got away), whilst good players, don't sort these problems out. Leads me to think either Ferguson is happy with his defensive and CM options or he has a transfer budget of around 100m

Think it means we'll offload Berbatov and Macheda, which won't affect us at all, really.

As strikers we'll have Rooney, RvP and Welbeck as 90 minute men, and Chicarito as the impact sub.

It's the wide/attacking midfield thing I'm not sure about. Nani, Young, Valencia, Kagawa is a good deal of talent. You can argue having 4 players for the two spots, but I'm not sure they'll get enough games.

If it's true that Javi Martinez just went for 40m Euros to Bayern, I can understand why we couldn't get near that figure. But that type of player is way more important.

Seriously still some negativity from you guys when we sign probably one of the best players in Europe, no question if City gazumped us they'd be calls of "No Value in RVP :("

Also 15M rising to 7M is a brilliant deal on our part.

In terms of how we could line up, football is a funny game, with rotation/injuries I think the idealism of fielding your 'best 11' never happens more than a few times but a few ways he could line up

Big Games/Away
-------Dea Gea-----------
Rafael--Rio--Vidic--Evra
----Carrick-Cleverley----
-Nani----Rooney--Kagawa-
--------Van Persie-----

Home

-------Dea Gea-----------
Valencia--Rio--Vidic--Evra
-Nani--Carrick-Scholes--Young-
------Van-Persie-Rooney------

So many variations are possible, :... Exciting stuff.

DUNA DUNA DUNA ...

Am I the only one who's disappointed we're playing on Monday? :D

Actually I was hoping for an early Saturday afternoon opening game. Ah well, I guess I just can't wait.

BTW is there any chance we could be seeing Van Persie participating in the first game?

I dont really understand the injury proned tag.
Even if he is...Cant you all see that he still tops the scoring charts last season? Even gets the PFA Players' Player of the Year award!

Remember how we struggled to get results last season?
Remember how we scraped 1 nil wins?
Remember how we nearly went down to the wire on goal difference?

RvP will make a positive difference...be it with or without market value.

Plastered all over the web, and reported by several news papers today.. The news Hernandez may make the move to Arsenal in order to get more game time!
I read it and thought "not in a million years!" then realised its logical for it his future for him to go their now their main striker has left and they need the quality to replace him.. And they have the money to pay the transfer fee..

Still doubt it, but you never know..

Seeing as how we have failed to pay our Sky bill and so have been cut off for now I may miss the season opener.. Unless any one knows of a streaming website which may work on the PS3? Thanks in advance!

Fergie explicitly didn't mention the Berbs today, talking of RVP, Rooney, Welbeck and Chicharito as his '4 great options'.

For the love of God Fergie, sell Berbatov. All you fans of other clubs, put together 5p and go buy the man! Worst way a United player has been treated in terms of transfers I can remember. It's like Fergie hates the Bulgarian - but how can you hate Dimitar Berbatov!?

And the scariest stat of the day: 83 - In the past three seasons Louis Saha has featured in 83 PL games (73%), four more than Robin van Persie in that period. Regular.

I want Berba to join Spurs or The Toon! One of the clubs that will give him service and a chance to how what he is best at.. Love Berbatov!

The share price is a little strange at the moment, it was hovering around $14.00 - $14.05 all day but in the last 40 mins or so the volumes have spiked (highest since the day of the IPO) and the price has dropped a fair bit (now at $13.35) I wonder if it's the markets digesting the Van Persie transfer.

If you want to keep track of the price, its now being covered in depth on google finance. Simply go to google and type "NYSE:MANU".

The Hernandez rumours are rubbish, his agent has said he'll be staying, being professional and fighting for his place. No way, we're letting him go, football is a squad game, people need to stop thinking we're going to have everyone fit all the time.

Honestly someone says something on twitter or some god awful newspaper like the mirror puts out a story on their website and it spreads like wildfire, so boring!

Also want to comment on RVP, we've not signed him based on last season alone, Fergie scouted him back when he was playing for Feyenoord.(http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/jan/21/alex-ferguson-robin-van-persie) and I'm sure he mentioned van Persie as being one of the players he'd most like to have in his team a while back. This has not been done on a whim.
