Any clips from the Aberdeen game? I heard raving reviews about that young Belgian kid, Adnan Januzaj...

Fletcher's comeback will be a slow and steady progress but its great news nonetheless.

Fletcher's comeback will be a slow and steady progress but its great news nonetheless.

First half we were bloody awful. A few senior players (Giggs especially) were walking around the pitch, clearly couldn't be asked. Not great to see.

Bizarrely, our most effective attacks came from Bebe and Nick Powell, who should have scored two headers.

Scholes decided to try a trick in his own 6 yard box, dispossessed himself and let the Aberdeen player score the first. He then sulked til he was taken off at half time.

Second half was a lot more fun. As you say, Adnan was awesome, great touch - no idea which his preferred foot is as he uses both equally. Anderson was also solid, and scored a cracking goal. But the overarching theme for me was how static and dull our play was. No penetration, no real game plan.

Oh and Fletcher did nothing. Which I guess is the best we can hope for, but I seriously wouldn't put any hope in him answering any midfield prayers.

Sounds like a second rate friendly game to me...It was Man United XI after all right? I think Giggs and Scholes didnt want any involvement in this! :)

5 more days to our first game and I think we are good to go.Would certainly be glad if we hit the ground running but some players like Vida, Evra, Rooney and Valencia seems to need a few more games to hit form.

On the transfers front, still no proper new CM and LB but two more forwards coming in.Of all thats being discussed here and on redcafe, I think the alternative reason why we are not buying a CM is because of Wayne Rooney.

Wayne Rooney will be our Paul Scholes in the near future. He has got ALL the skills that Scholes has and anything that is lacking will be developed soon.Similar story of starting out as a forward and then dropping back towards the middle of his career. Both has fantastic vision and can hit those laser passes without much effort. And the way I see it...Rooney is being developed sooner so we can get the best out of him and maybe more.

To support what I have said..This is also why we are buying RVP and that Henriquez kid...both out and out forwards along with Hernandez and Welbeck.

Imagine this formation.

--------------------van Persie------------------------
Young/Nani-------------------------Valencia/Nani
--------------Rooney----Kagawa--------------------
----------------------Carrick-------------------------

Rooney is never going to be Paul Scholes, if anything were pushing him further forward.

My concerns for CM have slightly calmed recently, SAF willing to use Kagawa their suggests thats actually an option now, Cleverley really does impress me whenever given that job to keep things ticking over well, and Carrick is very good in his deeper role.

Starting the season with Carrick, Cleverley and Kagawa in their against Everton sounds good to me, Scholes, Giggs, Anderson as options along with Nick Powell occasionally getting a run out and also the surprise return of Fletcher were looking OK.

The only worry is can any of those do Carricks job? at home i'd feel comfortable with Scholes doing it at home games but away, I don't really trust any of them for that defensive steal.

Rooney best position in the hole end of story...he is clever enough to play in midfield yes but he's a goal scorer and has developed his game as a poacher too...

Pretty sure I've seen that photo before, when he was over here for a few weeks a season or two ago.

But he was definitely at Carrington yesterday.

My worry is this: United scout the kid from 14, invite him to OT twice, arrange a 'gentlemans agreement' with his club to buy him at a later age and then City (as per press 2 days ago) double the offer and snatch him up.

We'll see, he has tweeted his little girl (neice?) in a United jersey before, so that' a good sign!

It's still the same "RvP expected to join in a £xxmillion deal this week in time for the premier league kick off" the headline stays the same the value varies from £15m to £25m

And I'm pretty sure that this would be the first time an Arsenal player has joined united directly; the only recent deal between the clubs was the Silvestre transfer.

Edit- two other transfers between the club (did some research)
Viv Anderson: Arsenal to United (1987) the last move prior to Silvestre.
Brian Kidd: United to Arsenal (1974) the last move from United to Arsenal.

ups, i thought it was suspicious to see the coach making photo with new player in this place, seems like a cantine or something.. i have to delete my post´s in transfer thread now..thanks for the info :P

It's official. We've agreed terms with Arsenal to sign RvP.

Mind. Blown.

-------Carrick-Cleverley---------
-----------Kagawa----------------
-Nani----------------------RvP---
-----------Rooney----------------

?

Meanwhile the player we SHOULD have bought - Javi Martinez - has gone to Bayern.

RvP deal almost done.. Mixed feelings, would have preferred if we strengthened where we need to, instead of creating what will become an Ego battle for a striker position.
Still it's going to be half the apparent budget we have, still hope for a CM or more urgently LB!

Thank you, that wasn't there a minute ago when I checked. :CONFUSE:

Would be cruel if Bayern snatched Martinez - we missed out again? Come on...

Well I'm excited, he's a great player to watch in form.

Fergie has admired him for years and he's now got his man, that's good enough for me.

...Nice to stop City completing the Arsenal page in their Panini(or is it Mancini) sticker book too :P

Rooney and RvP up front are gonna be a deadly striking force, and with Kagawa playing just behind them, they're gonna score a lot of goals and they will push city all the way to win the league.

This season is gonna be without a doubt one of the best in the recent years, I'd be happy with City retaining the title though cos' I hate United with every fiber of my being but I acknowledge their potential this season.

It's exciting but at the same time you really wonder how SAF is gonna keep the entire team happy in terms of playing time.

------------Carrick
Cleverley------------Anderson
-----------Kagawa
--------Rooney---RvP

Would be a more conventional diamond formation, but I rather think we'd be better off with Nani and/or Valencia in our side :P

Anyway I wouldn't try to fit square pegs in round holes, as has been said I suspect reverting to a more fluid formation has always been the plan.
