Manchester United Thread

Interesting - Ivanovic isn't getting a ban following his red card in the community shield.

Apparently the FA changed the rule after they banned Scholes and Rooney for picking up (the Rooney one was a joke) red cards in some pre-season tourney in Amsterdam. They literally banned the 2 United players (unprecedentedly - Gerrard had been sent off in the same tournament and not banned domestically) and then changed the rule right after.

But hey, the FA favor United right?

Ugh.

Anyway, still no new midfielder. Wonder how many seasons without a trophy we'll need to go through before Fergie pulls his finger out.

Also - this stuff about Fergie staying at OT for 'club business' - anyone getting worried? Fergie isn't the person that draws up contracts, conducts medicals or even mans the mighty fax machines. I'm definitely concerned it's a health thing.

Yeah the FA apparently changed the rules concerning cards gotten during pre-season games.

No new 'traditional central midfielder' linked to us recently...as I said above the only one that is remotely linked to us is Nuri Sahin.

Sir Alex is lookin fine in the latest pic of him in London...so that sets his health problems aside.I still believe its for our transfer dealings.SAF adding a personal touch to land our target I think...It has worked wonderfully in the past.Fingers crossed.

Dude...I only quote 1968, 1999 and 2008 as a homage for United's Champions League Winners medals.

The years above those are for PREMIERSHIP Winners Medals.

And if you are so interested in our Busby's league title wins with the premiership wins as a whole...look no further than my avatar which has a big bold number 19 on it.

:BYE:

ps: Thanks spektarm!

This is why you Man U supporters get bad names, you dont respect the old league format.

Its all Premiership premiership premiership blah blah blah now.

May I ask where you are from Phrase?

When has any of us ever said something about the old league format? Where the hell did that even come from?

Is there any reason why we shouldn't respect the old league format? As far as I know we have the most titles won during not only the Premiership era but old and new "eras" combined as well. I don't see what all your fuss is all about.

its just v.strange to have premiership titles listed but not football titles won before 1993

and when rival supporters critisize man u fans, they always say "you only liked football when man u started winning trophies in the 90s"

this is why man u fans get labeled 'glory hunters'

when celtic/liverpool/nottignham forest etc are more knowledgable UK fans in my opinion they know and respect their club history, not just when beckham played for them.

Not even gonna answer that.

But don't get me wrong, I'm not acting arrogant or something, just gonna leave it up to you to re-read your post and see what's wrong with it.

I'm not going to defend the history, the points are based on being picky as hell.
But please, "Man U" is very insulting have the decency to say "Manchester United" or just "United" please?

I dont mean to offend anyone, I have many Man U supporting friends here in University in UK who are knowledgabe football lovers! (I am born from Italy)

I just think that some Man U fan need to learn the history of their team more...everyone is obsession with premier league now

I am only young man but I still look at archives of Serie A football in the 80s and 90s, it interests me

why would a fan just list the titles won from 1993 onwards??

it doesnt make sense :)

Again - no offence attended. Sorry for my poor Enlgish.

Aye, it's something that I always tend to tell other fans not to do. They all know the history behind it, yet they still rub it in.

Why would you say that we don't know and aren't interested in our history? :?
That doesn't make sense, mate.

Like I said, dont mean to offend anyone,

sorry for using wrong term, I will use Manchester United or Man Utd from now on :)

Nah, it's not that bad nowadays. Was being sarcastic.

Just find it wrong when United fans use it themselves knowing from what Man U originates. (Man U Never Intended Coming Home aka M.U.N.I.C.H. aka Munich disaster :().

Wow...Now I get a bad name just because I started following United since 1992-1993? Why cant I do that? I mean, its been done, thank you.

I was only a kid back then and my late grandfather, bless his soul, was the one who could afford a tv and made me watch United play.It all started for me when United was in the Premiership...but it dosent mean I do not respect the old english league.

I am a realist and I cherish the past that I have been through...which is why I could not understand a certain group of fans around my age PREACHING about titles they have won in the past before they were born! I mean...have they seen it, been through it?

Have they been through it like I have with United? I have seen Manchester United in all their glory, lifting the Premiership titles 12 times and the CL twice.

For those memorable years alone, no one can have the right to call me a glory hunter...no one.Even for any other reasons nobody has the rights to claim that they are a better fan than the other.Football is a world wide love...Just support the team you love, throw a bit of banter in it and move along.

For your info...I am from SINGAPORE.

@ phrase I would of thought you lived inside OT  You`ve been a member for along time here and I know you hate Arsenal well, the one from the early `00s. You would want an Arsenal player (RVP) in your beloved Mutd ? Times are changing....btw I love your post-colourful/underline rant . :P

I would like to think that I am creative somehow. :))

Thanks for the recognition and I do hate that early 1998-2000s Arsenal team only because and always made United work hard in the league. That Manu Petit and Pat Vieira partnership in the middle was pure brute plus skills. So many other great players in that team too...Bergkamp, Overmars, Ljungberg, Kanu, Seaman, Adams.

Time does make a person mellow somehow and I now appreciate beautiful football from any team...Arsenal do still play beautiful football...the first team perhaps in England to play the tiki-taka or sorts? Walking the ball into the net? :))

In a nutshell...YES...I would welcome Robin van Persie into my beloved Man United. :P

And I wouldn't. He is 29. Injury prone. Out of contract next year. Not worth 25mln Arsenal wants for him.

Better get Llorente cause we don't really have proper strikers (Welbeck was alright last season, but.. you never know. Chicharito turned shit after 1 good season. Berbatov is on his way out I hear).

But let's see what Alex does.

The thing is...we dont know if Fernanto Llorente wants to come to United. Might need his buddy De Gea to talk him up. Spanish players arent cheap though and big question is...Can he do it on a cold night in Stoke? :))

Its been said that RVP wants to come to us...and its a rarity to have a player of his stature somewhat confirming to that these days...

I look at it this way...RVP might sign for 4 years? Still can do a job for like 2 years or so till he fades out. For crying out loud with his injuries...He still outscores our best forward, Rooney for last season and from how many games?

Your line > "He is 29. Injury prone. Out of contract next year."

My line > "He is a premiership proven 29yr old, world class striker. He outscores our best forward last season for an 'Injury Prone' player. Out of Contract next year but would he still want to come to us for free? Would Arsenal even allow that and not cash in on him?

RVP had a fluke season, much like Hernandez in his first year.
He will score between 10-15 next season, but he is NOT worth £20+ million on prior season stats alone. I'd rather we stick to our current strikers, get a CM and a LB.

If the rumours are true about a £22 million pound deal being agreed I would be delighted, id love to see this line up

............De Gea...............
Rafael...Vidic...Ferdinand...Evra
.......Cleverley...Carrick.......
Valencia....Kagawa......Rooney...
..........van Persie.............

Hernandez is 'Young and Learning', slightly annoying how everyone's jumped on his back and he's suddenly useless, makes me laugh at the claims how fans want loyalty from players but never show any back.

Van Persie's season in terms of productivity wasn't really a fluke and if you watched him you'd now it had been coming, making an argument his fitness record last year being a fluke could hold some claims though but his ability and output certainly not.

08/09 - 44 Appearances 20 Goals and 15 Assists
09/10 19 Appearances 10 Goals and 9 Assists
10/11 - 33 Appearances 22 Goals and 7 Assists
11/12 - 48 Appearances 37 Goals and 15 Assists

144 Appearances 89 Goals 46 Assists

Comparing those numbers to three of the best over the same period shows he measures up pretty well IMO.

Rooney 177 Appearances 105 Goals
Aguero 190 Appearances 97 Goals
Drogba 167 Appearances 77 Goals

Apparently that lil Chilean forward we have an 'agreement' with has showed up in Manchester for a medical. Angelo Henriquez? Must profess to know nothing about him, but does seem a bit odd if we're after RvP to be getting ANOTHER forward in at the club.

Where is Macheda in all this? Has he found a loan deal?

Fair enough YoungGun, but I'm sceptical of both.
Hernandez had a poor pre-season from what I saw on highlights etc, and last year was poor in comparison to his first but yes he's young but he doesn't look like he's learnt much and the defenders have worked him out, maybe (hopefully) he will be different next year and back to hitting the net :)

Also Chilean Youngster Angelo Hernandez set for medical between 4 and 6.

Haven't seen him play; but his YouTube videos show him to be a neat little finisher playing on the shoulder. In context he's like van Nistelrooy, but not as good.

And Macheda.. Hopefully been left on tour.

£4m for the lil Chilean, a mooted £13m for Steven f*cking Flethcher and no team is keen on the man-God Dimitar Berbatov.

Football is truly broken.

I wonder if it's a wages issue with Berbatov, that's the only rational explanation for me, because most sides would be lucky to have him.

As for van Persie, and with any transfer rumours, I won't believe them till I see the player in table cloth shirt.

Oh and I won't have a bad word said against Chicharito, I love that little man, he'll be popping up with important goals for us for years to come, just like a certain Ole.

Llorente up for grabs after he rejected Athletic new offer... Seriously... 22mln Euros for Llorente is bloody steal.

And much better signing than overrated Van Persil.

He was converted to winger by Wenger. Pretty much like Kuijt in Liverpool... Losing striker verve.

Van Persie did have odd one season in Arsenal and now everyone is wanking over potential signing? Seriously?

I wouldn't be happy and I would consider him a waste of money now.

Shame about Berbatov :(. The guy would have been a class act for the club (his first touch is beast, he is lazy, but he can score shit loads).

Back in the days we also let go of van Nistelrooy... Biggest mistake of AF lifetime and probably the transfer out I got most pissed off. Even more than when CR was sold (didn't like the guy really :P).

I don't know between the scenes problems though.

Darren Fletcher comes on the pitch to a good ovation from Aberdeen and United fans :)
