Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

But should we really be feeling sorry for ourselves? Apart from Vidic and Fletcher the other injuries are more than anything reoccurring injuries which could really be dealt with by the medical and coaching staff.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I'd say that's somewhat great reading? were at both ends of that situation and yet level on points. Surely they'll pick up a few and we'll get some stability.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

So another big match ahead (what is up with scheduling this season? We have like 5 of the top 6 in 6 games, and then nothing) at the Bridge. Haven't won there in 10 years. Cripes.

Though, with Ashley Cole, Terry, Ramires and Drogba all unavailable, I wouldn't be surprised if Chelsea call the game off like last year due to, erm, weather ;)

Seriously though, big questions around United's squad as well. Rooney and Nani only got 1 day of training in this week apparently, so unlikely they'll start. And I just fear for a midfield with Scholsey and Giggs in it against Chelsea - despite of course Giggs being awesome in the CL against them last year. No Anderson, Fletcher or Cleverley of course.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Midweek has relieved a lot of pressure though so obviously hoping for the win but a draw wouldn't be the end of the world.

Should have good options on the bench to change the game also.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Dammit, looks like the game is off due to weather now. Probably be rescheduled to the day before we play City knowing our luck. And I'm sure Cole, Terry, Lampard, Drogba, Ramires will be all fit and happy to go...

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Well it's definitely going ahead, eagerly awaiting the team news, I expect one or two surprises given who is available.

For once I'm not dreading this game.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I think the fact we're not dreading it will count against us.

Don't like us being favourites in a game like this, it'll just be typical if we lose.

In other news, please let us have Ronnie back.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Yes, Webb and his decisions... :COAT:

edit: OMG, what a freak save by De Gea against Mata's brilliant free kick. That was so crucial.

Congratulations to Man UTD for the spirit they showed when 3-0 down... It was a brilliant comeback even thought the penalties were so lame but well guess who was the referee??? MAN UTD's own HOWARD WEBB :P !!

By my reckoning, Mr. Webb seems to favour both Manchester clubs..especially when we (Spurs) play them.

1. Lescott & Balotelli lucky to stay on the pitch on Jan 22nd
2. Awarding a pen vs Tottenham for Utd in April 2009

Even today, poor refereeing again from Howard Webb, should've been a penalty to Utd in the 1st half when Cahill bought Welbeck down, shouldn't have been a pen when Welbeck conned Ivanovic...

Anyway, I digress, just glad Chelski didn't win, draw a good result...bit worried about when Utd visit WHL in March. Let's just hope Mr. Webb isn't refereeing that one...

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

By the way, Rio getting booed by some of the Chelsea fans was ridiculous and disgusting. I'd hope people would look past the tribalism for once and concentrate on sending a good message across, but given the past few weeks, the behavior seems to have intensified, including the Man Utd fan turned in for a racist chant against Stoke.

chanting padeo is not disgusting ... I take it

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Of course it is, don't turn this into a game of One-upmanship, if it's wrong, it's wrong, regardless of what other fans have done.

Anyway, guess you'd have to consider a draw at Stamford Bridge a good result, though I'm kind of torn being delighted by the comeback and gutted to be 3-0 down in the first place - when I felt we were the better side. Couldn't be anything other than baffled as I sat there at that point, but that's the unpredictability of football.

De Gea was shaky as ever, some questionable punching and a strange save for Chelsea's first goal, but he also pulled off a great save from Mata, I'm trying to give him as much time to settle as possible without judging him, as I know our club has a habit of breaking goalkeepers.

Hernandez is living up to his tag of being the new Solskjær.

It should have been a red card either way you look at it.

Great Comeback :))

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

It was outside the box.

Webb didn't give that one because Cahill was last man - didn't want to face that decision imo. Also some nice karma on the second one - quite similar to Zhirkov last year which was never a penalty either - but given of course. Officiating is just terrible in general lately.

Anyway, thoroughly entertaining game - even if quality was a bit lacking. I'm pleased there were goals as it was featured on Fox in America so should be enticing to US viewers.

Nice to see Chicarito score too, he needs some goals. Must be said terrible defending from Luiz on that goal - though the defender did score his customary goal against us.

Disappointed to concede 3, but can't argue with the belief in the second half.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

It was too easy for us to have an opinion because of the instant replay & multiple angles, they have to make a decision in a split second.

David Luiz didnt score!! His jerry curls and Rio's shoulder did! Such an awful defender...the way he just froze when Chico did his drifting movement to score that header sums it all up.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Well I've no idea how that match turned out how it did but that's the joy of football I guess.

We were much, much better than them in the first half but much like against Liverpool we looked completely out of ideas up front. Bosingwa did very well against Valencia and the less said about the piece of shite on the other wing the better.

Their first goal was shocking but not surprising. Evra is really starting to piss me off at the minute. Don't know what it is but he just cannot defend at all anymore, cost us pretty much every goal.

The two after the break were just strange, noone saw it coming but we were a mess from the off (great finish from Mata mind).

Even at 3-0 though, I always sensed we'd find a way back. Must just be years of following United but we're never out of it until we're truly out. The first penalty was a definite one and the second wasn't probably but given Adam Johnson's dive the day before I'd say they cancelled each other out.

Praise the lord for Chicharito too. I was wondering how the hell he was left unmarked in the box like that but typically for him it was wonderful movement that put him there.

Hopefully the comeback gives us some serious confidence and we go on a run but I suppose we should never have been 3-0 down in the first place.

RIP to the Babes, gone but never, ever forgotten.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Thought Bosingwa did very well to keep Valencia quiet. The one time he got away from him lead to our 3rd, so they'd done their homework on him.
They didn't with Hernandez though - completely unmarked for his goal. A few minutes earlier he'd been left unmarked on the 6 yard area for 2 corners, so glad they didn't learn from it!

As for Howard Webb always giving us the decisions... 2 incidents in the first 11 minutes (Bosingwa pulling Young's shirt & Cahill's foul on Welbeck), as well as Luiz's blatent dive to win a free kick, which De Gea made a world class save... yep, it always goes our way...

RIP Busby Babes.
