Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Martin Atkinson the ref against Liverpool.

I despair.

Yep, was looking forward to the match until that announcement. We might as well send the youth team, at least then Atkinson might get confused over who to send off to capitulate to the Anfield faithful.

Worst 'homer' ref in the league. See Rodwell, Jack; Carragher, Jamie; Luiz, David and countless others. Inept and snivelling.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I do agree that he's the worst ref in the Premier league which is some accomplishment Lol since his fellow refs aren't exactly the best nor brightest in the world either! He's the worst of the worst! Which is a real shame too as he's one of the more experienced referees in England as well with no shortage of matches under his belt.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Wow, just saw/ remembered this: our last 4 FA Cup Opponents have been Arsenal, City, City, Liverpool.

Eeesh!

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

We've been a bit unlucky in the FA Cup to be honest, we got robbed in 07/08 and 08/09, ran out of steam in 06/07 and had a real tough draws this year round.

I think the trophies SAF wants to win means the schedule always makes this the lowest priority and even lower than Carling Cup IMO because the schedule for that is better with it wrapped up in February.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

It's been too long since we last won it, thankfully we're still the most winning team due to Arsenal being allergic to winning silverware.

Would be nice to see us lift it again. Beating Liverpool in the cup (a last minute Evra winner at the Kop end would probably kill me with laughter) could kickstart a sort of treble (League/Cup/Europa) much like the proper treble in 1999.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I do think this year is as good a chance as any with no Champions League schedule but we've been given the hardest 2 rounds of anyone so far so we'll see.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Oliver Kay @OliverKayTimes

Change to referee for #LFC v #MUFC on Saturday. Will now be Mark Halsey. Martin Atkinson has withdrawn with a virus

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Yay!

No Morrison again in the Reserves match tonight. Starting to think that ship might have sailed.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I wouldn't put anything past Fergie after the Rafael-Gibson-O'Shea-Fabio midfield he put out against Arsenal last season.

I'm still on the fence about that being the highlight or lowlight of Fergie's formations. It's definitely one or the other...
;)

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Kinda off topic...but how many of us want a forward that just bullies defenders...Somebody big and strong upfront...Some one like Ibrahimovic...Rooney is that sort of forward but he tends to be too clever at times.Just sayin.

Certainly when watching that happen to us against Newcastle I did. It would be a nice riposte to the belief that the Barca way is the only way.

But that player doesn't really exist at the top level at the moment. Was supposed to be Andy Carroll.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Aside of having that physical presence upfront someone with the skills to bully defenders would do nicely too.Damn I miss Ronaldo.Watched the Madrid vs Athletico Madrid...and he is just a beast now,his teamwork skill has also vastly improved.Saw somebody big and strong too...Fernando Llorente.

Come back to OT,Cristiano. :(

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Llorente would probably be the best example of that. Good one.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

After hearing that Carrick and Rooney are likely to miss tomorrow's match, it's time for the annual 'broken United XI' - I think this year might be stronger than ever (except in goal)

------------?--------------
-Fabio-Rio--Vidic-Jones----
----Carrick-Cleverley------
--Nani---------------Young-
-------Rooney-Owen---------

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

What is wrong with Welbeck?? all those crazy shots that he took near the end....none on target, and none were shots that he would usually take!! argh!!!!

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Game was lost when Giggs & Scholes began to tire and we had no one to come on and replace them, at least not anyone Fergie trusted yet (Pogba). They dictated the game in the first half and it was great to watch, but that's football and it doesn't help when you concede 2 goals from silly errors. But that's football..

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Poor decisions cost us, scholes should off stayed on. All simple goals we conceded. Playing de gea in a big game like this was a bad choice. His confidence is gonna be even worse now.

And to make things show how poor this season has been, we only have the premier league and Europa league to play for.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Excellent possession statistics wise but we did absolutely nothing with it.

Liverpool created fuck all as well and were dire, we should've gone for the jugular but we were cautious.

Welbeck isn't ready to play lone striker so surely Berba would've been a better move.

Also don't get why it took so long to use a sub and why we didn't use them all.

Giggsy should've come off instead of Scholesey who was magnificent.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Very sterile match. Pretty bummed I bothered getting up for it! Still, if you'd told me we'd only lose 2-1, at Anfield, without Rio, Vida, Rooney, Nani and Cleverley...I would hardly be surprised.

I don't know who to blame for our injuries this year, but just saw a stat that Scholes is our only player who hasn't missed a match due to injury this season. That's not sustaibale, and coupled with Fergie's failure as a manager to get us a f*cking midfield, means we're now only really in the league. And it's not even February.

Welcome to Glazernomics. Oh and worst of all? We sold The One.
