Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Agents are scummy but the player has all the power, its their decision the agent just plays it out how he thinks is best.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Valencia was on fire today, I wish he'd use that pace a bit more often to beat players in every game. Carrick deserved his goal, lovely goal it was too. Welbeck keeps on delivering, he has turned into some player, thank you Sunderland. Fergie said his injury is just a twist.

Oh also, we got another penalty and Zat Knight got sent off deservedly, we always get the decisions. :P

Good win today and good to see the legend that is Paul Scholes score the opener.

However, as a frustrated Spurs fan, a little disappointed we're not level with you guys.

@szejkk, who is that chick in your avatar?

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Scholsey:

At 37 years and 59 days, he overtook Bryan Robson to become the oldest Englishman to score for United in the Premier League.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I have deep man love for Paul Scholes. Valencia and Carrick have been excellent the past month or so.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Just suffered through MK Dons and QPR. I'm not entirely sure what the question is, but the answer most definitely is NOT Kiko Macheda.

Utterly anonymous for 60 mins then subbed off.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I don't think he's that bad, he's certainly a class above other recent young failures like Diouf, Manucho, Bebe, Obertan.

If he gets a run of games like Welbeck did at Sunderland, he's still got a chance of fulfilling his potential.

Although given how heavily stocked we are up front, he'll most likely end up fulfilling it elsewhere.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Welbeck is far more talented than him imo but time will tell. I don't think he would've gotten into Sunderland's team like Danny did or do nowhere near as well even if he had been loaned out to them last year let's say.

He can become a good forward though. The clinical type. I still believe in him. Just not that much. :P

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Won't matter too much about Welbeck if the rumours are to be believed.

Admittedly I don't believe them but it's a sad state of affairs when a footballer holds a club to ransom over 10k a week. 50k is more than most people earn in a year so surely 10k more every seven days wouldn't make much of a difference?

Football these days is truly horrible.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

On a diff topic I watched the Real/Barca game yest. Barca's 9th win in 13 matches vs Madrid, a remarkable stat....

Barca put us to the sword last may, I was there to see it, had to hold my hands up, had a great day, beaten by v.much the better team, what can you say........

the press and other teams supporters (most of them following teams not even in the Champs League) slaughtered us for being beaten by the Best Team in The World, as it was the last CL final it still gets mentioned by english journo pretty regular...

The talent in Madrids team is scary, C.Ronaldo's scoring feats alone have been phenomenal (and would , you think, have him on top of every end of year lists with a handful of medals) but still, they cant get near them, I cant see anyone getting to that level until barca's reign naturally comes to an end....

No real point to the post i s'pose just wondering what you all think?

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

The scariest thing about this Barca is that they've faced almost every 'great' manager in the game - and come out on top. For all his nastiness, Mourinho is a great tactician, but he clearly can't solve it. Nor could Wenger or Fergie.

It's easy to say when watching from the stands, but the only way to beat Barca imo is just kill the game with your own, boring ass possession. Literally form a back 5, with 3 midfielders in front of it and pass around for 5 minutes at a time, until they back off from their pursuing devilness. I think the biggest mistake teams make against Barca is to try and play quickly on the break the second they get the ball. The only way Barca are able to press for the full 90 is because they rely on having the ball the whole game.

I'd sacrifice trying to score against them in the first half in exchange for tiring the little scamps out.

All that said, I also find it very hard to enjoy watching Barca play. I understand how effective they are, but it's much like the Spanish side at the World Cup. Yes, the dominate possession but they actually create relatively few moments of footballing excitement. They choke the game, bring it to their speed which is generally slow for 3 minutes, fast for 10 seconds. They look amazing from highlight packages, but they'll go 10 minutes, with the ball, without even bothering to try and create a chance. I don't really believe that's what football should be about, as effective as it. The only analogy I can come up with is a pro tennis play constantly playing lob shots to the opponents backhand. It makes them super hard to play against, but man it would ruin the spectacle.

Finally, the other requirement of Barca's defensive tempo is breaking up play. So you have the clearly encouraged diving, rolling, and time-wasting that comes every time I see them. As I've bemoaned many, many times on here - you're the best f*cking team in history, have one of the most expensive squads ever assembled and you STILL have to cheat and act like f*cktards? F*ck right off then. I prefer Milan in the 90's United in 99 and the first Galacticos.

No way Welbeck leaves United. Born and bred Mancunian. The press are truly getting desperate if they're focusing on him. As likely as Scholes or Red Nev leaving.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Nevermind Barca, we've got other, more local obstacles to overcome at the moment.

If we want to beat them in a final some point, we've got to hope that volcanoes and earthquakes mean it's impossible for them to travel to wherever the neutral venue is without walking. :P

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Ferguson on players today:

"I have certainly mellowed. There’s no question about that. It’s a more fragile human being that I am dealing with today than 25 years ago. They are cocooned by modern ideas, modern parents, modern agents, and they are cocooned by their own image at times. It’s a different world for me, so I have to change myself to adapt to that. I have changed because of these things."

Damn straight.

Alot of managers have been sucessful at various clubs or at one paticular club, but to manager a club like united over 4 decades (especially considering the change in the game since the 80's) wont be repeated....

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

No Rio again, started the season with seemingly far too many defenders and yet that's where we've had the most trouble this season, typical.

Giggs for 60mins, then Scholes on for the rest of the game, the golden oldie rotation system :P

Looking at the Arsenal line up, I reckon our wingers can give them hell.

Lindegaard

Smalling
Jones
Evans
Evra

Valencia
Carrick
Giggs
Nani

Rooney
Welbeck

SUBS: de Gea, Fabio, Rafael, Scholes, Park, Berbatov, Hernandez.

Good result, didn't raise our game after the 1st goal though, don't think we should of let Arsenal back in the game.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Did the job otherwise it would have been a massive evening for City's title chances, even with the win still slightly deflated with their win and our run of games coming up we need to stay within 3 points really to keep them on their toes.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Am worried bout the injuries tbh. Looked to me like Jones could have done ligaments, but then nasty challenges from Koscielny (perhaps Nani's metatarsal) and Song on Rooney (something is wrong, he couldn't walk at the end) might have really taken the stuffing out. Our schedule is so tough right now, and to likely be without Jones, Rio and Vidic for the whole thing...can't see us doing it now.

City just have to much strength in depth, plus some serious luck lately. Lescott and Balotelli should definitely of been off in that match, instead they're both on the pitch for a last minute winner, one of them scoring it. Nice.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Tough win, but an important one! I am happy with Valencia's performance today, worried about Phil Jones though. We have enough injury problems.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Jones seemed just a twist so 1-2 weeks at most, Nani I think will be fine, Rooney might have picked up a knock but all three should be OK.

Not another league fixture for 9 days so hopefully we should have more numbers back.

The fixtures on the 5th and 11th will be crucial, we have Liverpool and Chelsea and City have Fulham and Villa, I'd say anymore than a 5 point lead for City will be difficult to catch

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Good result, but yet another batch of injuries! How immense has Valencia been lately? (hope the people that disagreed with me a while ago for saying I'd have him in my side over Nani are reconsidering;)))

There was a nice article on Paul Scholes in yesterday's People paper - considering it's a Sunday rag!

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Over Nani?, I don't see that changing Jamesy he's on form but Nani's a level above but I do think Young has a problem getting back into the team.
