Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Nice, as a follow up to my earlier Pogba worry - an apparently 'itk' has said City have approached his agent and offered him FIVE TIMES whatever United offer. For, you know, filling that gaping hole they have in midfield.

Tbh, f*ck off City. You've already bought the best team in the world, at least let us poor clubs that need to make money develop our youth players.

I´m on your side with this..City are making a fantastic team, but enough is enough..Pogba would blossom at United as a player, more than in City..but this sick days, money means all my friend..at least if it´s offered to someone, even if he doesn´t have family to feed yet, he would not refuse it...nobody would.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

unexpected result!(especially w/ Crystal never beaten MUTD in over blah blah years) cracker of a goal and to be given a penalty so early gave you lots the energy to get another.

football is cruel this way innit? Mutd had a good experience bunch tonight it just unfolded the wrong way. At least you won`t have any games in hand :SMUG:

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

As I said, we were terrible. Fergie set out a bunch of players with no strategy, playing out of position and just not gelling at all. I'm fine with fielding youth players - but that wasn't our youth team.

Anyway. Credit to Palace, they defended pretty well, and stifled our attack. The press will go overboard of course, but perhaps worth noting that their second was clearly offside. So a tough week for us with the penalty on Saturday then that call today. I could be wrong, but I'm not convinced Palace had another attempt on goal in the second half.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Fergie set us up to fail tonight. Awful team selection, awful bench and awful tactics.

Diouf put in what may be remembered as the worst ever performance by a United forward. If he ever pulls the jersey on again I'll be shocked.

The twins were both injured in 60 minutes. Shock.

The biggest annoyance for me was Park though. My God he was terrible. Mindblowingly bad. I get that he has his uses, but he's a winger who is slow, can't dribble, can't cross and has no first touch. Also at fault for the goal, and was just generally a pub player.

You Summed it up perfectly, I'd go as far as to say Diouf is possibly the worst player i've ever seen in a United shirt, and i remember Terry Gibson and Peter Davenport.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Think the only players that came out of that game with no shame is Smalling (immense considering he was doing Evans' job as well, and then covering when Park moved to RB!), & in the second half Valencia stepped up as well.

SAF messed up with the bench yesterday, although I guess he wasn't counting on Berbatov getting injured. Chasing the game, and the only strikers in the squad are Macheda & Diouf? Was Welbeck injured? If not he's not played much recently, so would have been a great option to have...

Still, for a cup we claim to not care about, the one good thing is that it means one less game for us, & one extra for City... (I know, clutching at straws!)

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

 :((

Terrible performance.

I think a couple of things were made clearer, Some older players need to be moved on and replaced with youth (either through promoting or signings), Morrison and Pogba are talents but aren't ready for the step up just yet.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Very poor, the first half was one of the worst I've seen in a while.

The twinjuries didn't help but there were still enough internationals out there to do the job. Think Murray's winner was marginally offside as well but whatever...

Smalling was great, hopefully that'll put him ahead of Jones in the pecking order at CB. And screw Darren Ambrose, he always seems to score against us!

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

The bit with Zeki falling over was the highlight of the match from a United point of view.

Oh and watching that Ambrose striker - my lord what a hit. It doesn't get old watching again and again and again...

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

i watch 1st half and it was really poor football

i dont know when i watch so poor match in EPL seems like italian football :P

btw important win for u guys

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

What was wrong with that pitch? They were all dropping like flies out there.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Not sure its the best of timing, Win and City have a lot of preparation time for the League, and losing to them is just not worth mentioning.

I think the run City have got now till that fixture will be telling though, come through it and beat us would awful but drop points to Arsenal/Chelsea/Liverpool and lose to us could be the psychological advantage we could do with

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Well, the way the two teams are playing you'd hardly have us as favourites.

Just don't know what's happening at the moment. We've had so many injuries it's remarkable - particularly as the schedule hasn't been that packed so far this season. Our best players aren't looking that good (Nani, Rooney, Ferdinand) and our fringe players are just playing okay. Fergie is insistent on playing a different team every time out, and we're just not consistent out there.

Personally I kind of wish we as United fans could just be satisfied with a decent, transitional season - and start fielding the younger players week in week out.

I can fully accept (and really, it should be the case) that we don't have as good a team as City this year. But what we hopefully can do is develop the youth while Fergie is still around. I'd love to see this as a team:

-----------De Gea-------------
--Smalling-Vida---Jones----New LB-
-------Cleverley-Carrick--------
--Nani-------------Young------
------Roon---Welbeck----------

With Hernandez, Pogba, Morrisson, Valencia, etc all getting chances.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Is De Gea injured? Just wondering why Lindegaard played, I lost points in my fantasy football because of De Gea not featuring :(

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Big match today for our season. Obviously we should be able to at least draw against Basle, but who knows with our current form. We'll definitely need to score imo. I still have haunting memories of going out in 2005 via that ridiculous deflected Giovanni shot.

Given the group we have, can't believe Fergie will let us go out.

Will be interesting to see if he trusts Jones in midfield for this one, or if he'll go with Fletcher and the looking-his-age Ryan Giggs instead.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Wow shades of that terrible night in 2005. Go behind, can't get back into it. The Swiss team even through in the copious diving to remind me of the Portuguese side back then. Nice of them.

Shocker. Play the kids in the UEFA cup. Shameful.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Yeah, just not good enough. For all the deserved criticism that Diouf gets, I don't honestly see any difference between his contribution and Park's this season. The Korean was okay at best, but is absolutely, game-destroyingly woeful this season.

This is on Fergie/ the Glazers. We have no midfield. We're playing a defender, a 38 year old winger and a failed, over the hill kind of attacking player instead of actual midfielders.

It's pretty much known we tried to buy Nasri, but City doubled his wages. I wonder if he'd of preferred to be an integral part of our team, or a bench-warmer/ occasional starter for City.

I fear City will just keep doing this with any player we try to buy.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

True but it doesn't matter. City are out licking their wounds too. Napoli deservedly through! I suppose that's the only consolation for United and City fans tonight. That they failed but at least so did their local rivals.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Stocker is a very good player! Can't believe he only came in 91st minute to waste time basically. We'll see more of him in knockout stage.

At least City have the excuse of a tough group. We don't.
