Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Daniele de Rossi? A metodista with vision
His contract is going to expire.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

No chance of us signing De Rossi, Javi Martinez would be pretty good and a upgrade on Carrick.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

For the time being...I think Darren Fletcher is ideal enough to play as a DM.He hassles and has got great energy when back to full fitness.Fletcher and Carrick would start in the middle for me with Ando and Cleverley offering as alternatives.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Fletch has lost all form and effectiveness though, he's not making tackles, hassling players and is poor positionally. Plus he makes Carrick play worse when they play together.

I'd prefer we went 4-3-3 and stick Rooney up top for the time being, get Cleverley and Ando to play with Carrick or at the very least Clev and Carrick in a 4-4-2.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

It's funny, of all the youth players that might have been getting on the pitch right now with injuries, the one most likely is probably Ryan Tunnicliffe - but he's out on loan. Proper 'hard' DM, but with pretty reasonable passing to go with the all action style.

Just realised our next match is against Swansea - the team who complete more passes than anyone else in the league. No doubting our ability to win, but it is going to be comic gold watching our midfield 2 chase shadows all afternoon...

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

For all his shortcomings...Fletcher is a certain starter when fit in CM...and by the looks of things this season...his partner is between Cleverley and Anderson, who has gone missing for the last few games after a good start to the season.Rooney is just a stop-gap I reckon.

We've been linked to a few players this Jan window and most of them are CMs....Javi Garcia and Bruno Soriano...Hope this problem we have will get sorted out by the end of January.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Javi Garcia doesn't fill me with much confidence, haven't heard of the other one.

I wouldn't say any central midfielder we have is a certain starter, not since 08/09 at least when Scholes started fading.

Carrick is 30+ and that type of player is needed but obviously being better.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Bruno is very good. I much prefer him to Javi Garcia. Javi is taller and stronger though. More physically imposing. But slow and I'm not a big fan overall.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I think we've learned from Carrick how important mobility is to our success. When Fergie buys I'm sure he'll have that in mind - as well as an aversion to the treatment table (what's that, Hargo still only has the 55 minutes at City - no way!)

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

There's more chance of Fergie bringing back Tevez than buying a central midfielder. :P

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Wow, something must have come out then: 1731 FOOTBALL: Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been charged with using abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards Manchester United's Patrice Evra during the game between the clubs at Anfield on 15 October, the Football Association have confirmed.

Meanwhile, the head of football has confirmed his mature, reasonable opinion on racism in football: Asked if there is racism on the pitch, he tells CNN World Sport: "I would deny it. There is no racism, there is maybe one of the players towards another, he has a word or a gesture which is not the correct one, but also the one who is affected by that."

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Urgh, thanks 'honest player' Kevin Davies - because of the 'statement' tackle made on Tom Cleverley's ankle in the Bolton game, he's now out til Christmas after failing to recover. Our one decent looking midfielder, broken by a thug. Lovely. Now I know how it feels to support Arsenal ;)

Also, City just announced that in 1 year, they're posting an operating loss of £197m.

So in just 1 year, City's operating loss is greater than every single premier league team's total net spend in the past decade, except Chelsea.

All of their revenue for the year - every penny - is still £30m short of paying the player wages.

Just mental.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Hi all, Jacks fan here in peace, looking forward to the match tomorrow evening, probably our biggest home league game for a long time. I admit you lot should beat us but I'm sure we'll give it our best and make it a good even game. Hopefully Nani would have left his shooting boots back home, that was some goal the other night! ;)

I think it'll be a good match to be honest. We're weakest in the centre of the park - where you're probably strongest.

Will be interesting, isn't your home record incredible? Should be a good spectacle at least, positive football ahead!

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I hope so, we have had a lot of the plaudits from neutrals for our passing and possession game but we just need to convert that into goals more often. Our home record is very good and could be a key thing for survival in the Prem but despite what you say about Man U's midfield being weak in the centre, the attack sure makes up for that.

I'm sure the lads will be a little bit confident going into the game after the 0-0 at Anfield the other week, a game that we could have won if we'd put our chances away. But whereas Liverpool also missed gilt-edged chances that day (and our goalie played a blinder), I can't see Man U being as wasteful somehow.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I never really now what were going to be like away from home, its been like that for a while.

just hope the attack is on it as even on a bad day we'll create 2-3 chances.

And yet nothing will be done about it, they won't even get a slap on the wrist. Football is ridiculous.

In any case we've started pretty well thus far, been entertaining. Swansea are lovely to watch but I think we can handle their attack. Glad we've scored just to ease the nerves a bit.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Weird match. Other than when Sinclair really should have scored, and Jones hit the post, virtually no chances for either team. Swansea play some neat stuff, particularly coming out from the back, but didn't really create anything. We didn't seem bothered to get out of third gear.

Why do Park and Giggs always play together? They're like a two man possession losing machine...

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Agree about the match being a weird one, it was a strange old night and a bit frustrating being able to match Man U for possession but not taking advantage for their stuttering play. I still can't get over how bad that Sinclair miss was, even my mother could have scored that.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Looking forward to tonight, hoping for a good performance (should be since its at OT) and Benfica are a decent outfit so the players won't be allowed to coast through it so should be decent viewing.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Again no consistency in team selection and formation causes more problems yet again. SAF should by now have a settled team in his mind barring injuries and suspensions.
You just have to look at teams like Madrid and Barca who will field 80-90% the same team and formation game after game to achieve consistency in performances and results.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

It is clear what Man United's weakness are this season. We get undone easily by fast paced passing from opposing midfield.Injuries and the chop and change in defensive line-ups dosen't help either.

We were too slow off the start too, like many other games before tonight.Carrick and Fletcher were poor for the first quarter of the match but finally settled in after figuring out Benfica's tactics.Jones for all his squash-buckling style hasn't got the right composure to play as a CB yet.He looked like a headless chicken at times last night! I might be wrong but his time will come with more games.

We were lucky to get a result against Benfica last night and now have to do it the hard way and win all three points in Switzerland to qualify for the knockouts.

I'd say baring 3 positions I know our first 11 and so do most fans

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

This was to be the easy group to win, look a bit like Arsenal at the back . Gea,Smalling and Jones are getting good amount of experience and they will be massive players next season and after. ATM their pups that will soon get their teeth.... it`s called not buying ready made at least they will remember who gave them their start.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

at least they will remember who gave them their start.

Atletico, Blackburn & Fulham?

We just need a bit of consistency, until then it's just "If's & But's"

We're normally notorious for starting a season slowly & picking up after Christmas, so hopefully City will have imploded by then!

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I hope last night will dent their confidence enough for Liverpool to dent it further.

Were quite strange, one minute solid at the back and toothless going forward, last night was the opposite. Vidic has never been more important it seems

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Looking more and more like Arsenal in the Champions League. Dodgy at the back, trying to pass the ball into the back of the net, coming second in a relatively straight forward group and probably gonna face one of the big guns now in the next round.
