Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I was wrong.

Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher will miss the club's pre-season tour of the United States.
The 27-year-old has made only one start since 1 March after being struck down by a virus.
"Darren will remain at Carrington to undergo a conditioning programme given he missed a large proportion of last season," said a club spokesman.
"We want to give him the best opportunity to be fully fit for the start of the new season."
Fletcher lost a significant amount of weight thanks to the virus and the club hope the Scotland captain could be involved in Paul Scholes' testimonial against New York Cosmos on 5 August, or the Community Shield two days later.
"We tried to accelerate things and we feel a reduction in the amount of time Darren spends travelling will help him achieve this," added the spokesman.
"[Missing the tour] will help him catch up fitness-wise to the levels of the rest of the team."
With Fletcher missing, manager Sir Alex Ferguson will take an initial squad of 21 with him on Monday.
Of his three new signings, only England international Ashley Young will be on board, having taken the number 18 shirt vacated by Scholes' retirement.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

The Fletcher thing is worrying. He's had almost half a year to get his fitness back, not sure what was wrong with him but that's not a good sign.

Lots and lots of chat about Sneijder again today. Lovely player, genuinely impressed when I've seen him play but I don't believe he's a 'United type' player. Sounds too much like Veron signing to me.

We don't have a great track record of bringing 'the worlds best' to OT, I'd much rather get a younger player that can play as part of a midfield 2. Plus, he would break the wage structure and cost a fortune.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Plus he does the same job that Rooney does. No point having both of them.
Rather have Schweinsteiger or someone else.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

It worked I think Wes Brom got a hold of this and will give him a job and it`s not fitness training :P

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Finally, it's preseason time! First match tonight in Boston, 1am UK time (ugh).

Will be very interesting to see our midfield. Only Carrick, Ando and Giggsy travelled, so at some point something has to give!

Can't decide if I want to stay up to watch it...won't make work lovely tomorrow!

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

So, The Sun are saying that Gill has almost finalised the negotiations for Sneijder at about £35m.

Can't say they are trustworthy, though.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Carrick, Anderson Giggs and Park will do for now.

Park is not a central midfielder though. I guess maybe he can do a job, but it blows my mind that we could be going into next season with such limited midfield options.

It apparently is true that Gill is not with the tour.

Not sure if this is true (second hand) but apparently Kiko Macheda posted on his Twitter account that he was looking forward to Snjeider joining up on the tour, then deleted it quickly.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Yep and even goal.com (pinch of salt) are reporting Gill is in Milan negotiating.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Ugh, still think it's a waste of money. For some reason I just don't think it's going to work :(

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Signing Sneijder just doesn't make any sense...

It's not that he's a bad player but I just don't see where he fits into the side.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I'd prefer Steven Defour.

Edit:
Write in google: wesley sneijder nike football player page...
First link.
"One of the most deadly accurate players in the world, Wesley Sneijder plays for Man Utd and wears the Nike T90 Laser III" :o

Strong team in the friendly:

-------------lindegaard------------
-Rafael---Vida------Evans---Fabio--
-------Carrick---Ando--------------
-Nani--------------------Young-----
---------Rooney--Berbatov----------

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

of course he will sign for you..i know United were after him the second it was official Scholes retires..

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

New England 1 - Man United 4.

Goals by Owen, Macheda(2) and Park.

Great to see the lads back in action.

Missing the BPL bucketloads now.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Standout performers were Young, Carrick, Ando and Macheda.

Scariest moment: Fergie ended the match with a midfield 3 of Park, Giggs and Michael Owen.

(yeah, we don't need midfield reinforcements...!)

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

rooney could become a scholes replacement if you really needed. not that you would want him dropping there however i think he could do it with his range of passing.

not the right time for him there yet though

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Not sure if any of yous visit the Arsenal thread. Once again MUTD are the most valuable Franchise in the world we could talk debt all we want the fact that your club`s owners even has his NFL team on top makes these owners doing something right hate them or love them it doesn`t change the fact MUTD will be backed by any financial institute in the globe.

In November the Glazers paid off $330 million of the debt which now stands at $756 million, or 41% of the team’s value (the average debt-to-value ratio of the top 50 franchises is 26%)

that alone see intent value to debt = % so MUTD are paying millions towards debt. £120m towards transfers is just scratching paint really  even with 41% compare to most 26% .

We were making mega money long before the Glazers though.
Imagine what we could have done with the squad & stadium without the debt they put us in...

cant have both tho, as a plc things would have been different imo, the shareholders would have taken the cash out of the club, transfers wages etc are all controlled in another way.

the glazer years in terms of trophies, finals, ground extension, has been a great time for the club.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I think the point was, imagine how well we'd be doing if we werent bought on borrowed money. And the answer is VERY well. Financially speaking of course.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Bingo!
That, and some people seem to think we've only succeeded lately because of the owners (that isn't aimed at Van btw!)
Yes, we've done well & are slowly reducing the debt, but we were making decent profits without the debt before then. Just an observation really...
