Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

"Why did we sign Young and not get a DM instead"

That´s what i ask myself as well with the wingers you have already + Nasri..

won´t happend imo.. not as if i care if it will..

about the City rumours..they buy lot´s of players but they simply can´t keep all of them happy (or better said, in the team), wich means they also will sell...

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Has he refuted them or something or are you just presuming it?

Nasri would be unbelievable signing but my only thought would be
"Why did we sign Young and not get a DM instead"

He came out on his official twitter channel (and his agent's) saying he's never done an interview with the Mirror, and never said any of those things.

I just wish the footballers spend .00001% of their salary on hiring a lawyer to sue rags for all they're worth when they make up quotes. That's so reprehensible, and no one does anything about it.

Anyway, still don't get this Nasri thing. I've not watched him enough (or paid enough attention) but he doesn't strike me as having the kind of engine you'd need to be part of a 2 man midfield, even if one is Carrick and provides the stability. He's a very talented footballer, but not really a United type, and certainly doesn't seem to be what we need right now.

I'm still eagerly awaiting our completely out of the blue midfield signing...

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Its puzzling to us all but I am beginning to get an idea that Sir Alex wants a mobile attacking midfield of 5 and only playing with one forward...just like Barcelona.Nasri or Sneijder would justify my thoughts.

Another reason to why we arent linked with a proper CM or DM is that we already have 3 good ones in Carrick, Fletcher and Anderson.Who knows...Sir Alex might even push Paul Pogba into the first team for next season.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Pogba isn't really a DMF, more of an attack minded CMF. Real quality, but physically not quite ready yet. 2 seasons from now hopefully.

Agree on the new formation. Dunno what it means for Berbatov though...

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Nasri can be moulded into the CM Giggs has become, but I agree that it would put a bit more pressure on his partner but against 90% of teams we really should be able to control the game and he's versatile so he could play in the "3" ahead of that if needed.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Wow, reports saying we had an £18m bid rejected for Nasri. Still baffles me that one. Would love us to fix the midfield with just £18m, but can't see it tbh.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Legit reports? :DD 18M is a good starting offer, 23M Should be end game probably.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

A pity we left him stranded against Barca in the final. Playing just a 37 year old ex-winger alongside him against one of the finest midfield triumvirates in history wasn't a bright idea.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Yeah, it was pretty stupid. Giggs was sooooo much worse than Carrick in that match, yet Carrick will get all of the criticism.

To be honest, Giggsy is both a blessing and a curse playing in CMF. He gets us lots more scoring chances, but doesn't have the legs to be active in much of the match. He tends to work in short bursts, which deprives us of energy for large chunks of the game.

He can do a job against half decent prem teams but against quality (that luckily we only see @ barca) he cant match that type of pace.

we havent really played with a proper DM for a few years, hargreaves was supposed to be our DM, but scholsey played that holding role for past 2 seasons and i dont really class him as a DM.

He's proven against Arsenal, City and Chelsea (especially with Park in the CL and Prem home matches this season) in the past that he can step up and deal with it.

Judging him against Barca isn't fair, noone can match them.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Exactly, I still think we can improve the midfield by quite a bit and we'll need to if Chelsea bring in some of the rumoured targets) which we will.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

We need Anderson to kick on and have an injury-free run in the side as well. He looked very good in the second half of last season.

nah im not judging him on that game but it showed that using a 37 year old winger as a CMF will only get us so far.

with gibson about to leave it also gives cleverley a chance...maybe if anderson gets a full season it could be a real boost to the midfield...

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Love the potential Ando but it's so rare we see it for more than 2 games at a time.

If we were to get Nasri, presumably our first XI would be:

----------------De Gea----------------
--Rafael-----Rio-----Vida-------Evra--
-----------Carrick-Fleth/Ando---------
----------------Nasri-----------------
---Valencia-----------------Nani------
----------------Rooney----------------

Bench: Lindegaard, Smalling, Jones, Fletch/Ando, Young, Berba, Hernandez?

Fairly weird if so. I just don't get how all these new signings are going to fit :(

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Also saw someone do this the other day, a British United XI v RoW

------------Amos------------
-Smalling-Rio--Jones-Evans--
------Carrick--Fletcher-----
--Young---------------Giggs-
---------Roon-Owen----------

vs

-----------De Gea-----------
--Rafa--O'Shea-Vida--Evra---
-------Ando---Gibbo---------
---Valencia----------Nani---
--------Berba--Hernandez----

Would be a cracking match!

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Nasri would be replacing Giggs in the 2 man midfield. the thing is could he and Anderson ever work together in a 2? My gut says no which is a worry but he'd be brilliant in that role,

Said it a lot but Hernandez won't be dropped in the big games and Rooney is fine in SS/CAM Role. the only time I think the system would need changing is Real or Barca (which is reality is maybe once a season if that)

---Carrick-Nasri----
-Nani-Rooney-Young-
-----Hernandez----

That team would get blown away by most decent 3 man midfields in the prem. There's no defensive balance.

I mean, I like it in terms of all gung ho-ness and attack-mindedness, but think it would be mental to run that against quality opposition.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Rene Meulensteen (1st team coach):
'I don’t know how his future is at Inter, of course – whether he is allowed to leave and whether we can pay him. But purely on the basis of his ability, I would say "Get Sneijder".'

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

O'Shea having medical too at sunderland :(

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I am not unhappy about Nasri leaving, even if its to United. He was great for the first half of last season, but before and after that has been inconsistent and has not really cut it. He wants out thats obvious, and if its £20M you are offering, I would snap your hand off. Juan Mata can come in and be good if not better.

It worked fine with Giggs and Carrick so why wouldn't it work with Nasri a younger, fitter and at this stage a better player. If you want to make it more tighter I'd throw in one of Park/Valencia for Young.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I'm probably going against the grain in hoping that we don't go for Modric or Nasri.
Both are undoubtedly great players. And on their day they can tear teams apart. But for me in large parts last season they appear to go missing in games too often.

If we managed to buy Sneijder, even if he's having an off game, you just know that at any time he could play a killer pass to win a game (a la Scholesy).

My opinion anyway :)

You are right....Nasri is one to go missing in games..a lot. ;)

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

So Wesley officialy is a Black Cat:

Pity. I like him a lot.

So Sunderland now have 4 our former players:
Richardson, Bardsley, Campbell, Brown...
And maybe O'Shea's next.

At least over there he can get out of Rio's shadow. That's how I always felt about him.
