Woah! Who said "build a team around him" He just needs to consistently start to pick the ball up from the defence and pop it out about and stretch the opposition and let the likes of Nani and Rooney etc play in the final third.

No midfielder then :SS :ANX::RANT:

Anderson, Carrick, Fletcher, Giggs + Cleverley, Jones and Pogba.

Numbers look decent but a lot of pressure on Anderson to become the main man otherwise that wouldn't look out of place in midtable.

I'm guessing Fergie is planning on marginalising the importance of the midfield. Against most teams our attack is good enough to be successful doing that, but against other top clubs we're going to be completely overrun.

Sigh.

Also, Cleverly looked pretty terrible in the middle last night against Chicago. I was surprised tbh. Might have been nervous, but I expected more. Lots of misplaced simple passes and general poor touch.

It depends really, I don't really care about the other teams but we should be looking to improve. as of right now Giggs and Carrick would be good enough to beat Chelsea, Arsenal are getting weaker with maybe no Cesc and City to be fair aren't anything to worry about in the middle.

We'll be up their for the league but Europe is an unrealistic target.

To be fair, Europe was an unrealistic target last year as well but we got an easy couple of ties and we made it to the final where we were promptly found out.

We definitely need a midfielder though maybe SAF is waiting for Giggsy to go as well before we decide to buy.

Yeah I'm a big fan too. Guy's very good but United hardly need another striker. So I don't see it happening. Just media BS probably.

Vucinic would make sence only if Berbatov is sold, let´s face it, the young guys can´t lead the line for United even if they stay..main strikers are still Berbatov and Rooney, at least for me.. If Berbatov leaves, wich would not make sence as well, i can see Vucinic being good straight replacement..otherwise it is just rumour..

Berbs is saying all the right things pre-season he had a great season, joint top scorer and prem medal, he's improved each season he's played with us but he needs to get to grips with the Champs League, still no goals Berbs!!

Us getting Vucinic is a non startter for me, if we could get De Rossi on the other hand......

Watched our preseason match against the All Stars - overall pretty impressed. Rooney and Berbatov in particular were looking sharp and hungry, and Park had a pretty solid match too. Ando and Carrick were fine in midfield, though they only played the 60 mins together.

Scarily enough, we finished the match playing Danny Welbeck and Cleverly in the middle.

Must. Buy. Midfielder.

Scary left field thought, a certain Mr. Beckham was reasonably impressive in a deep-lying central midfield role. Please no...

Cleverley could be the answer, its too easy to say buy, but who is available and matches the club policy of buying players, not many spring to mind...

as SAF showed when ronaldo was sold, he isnt gonna spend for the sake of spending, if the quality isnt available, work with what you have.

we've been saying this for years now, granted we still had scholes, and i know we're gonna miss him more that any player we've had over the last 10 years, but you cant just buy that sort of quality...

I dunno, in one sense but if we want top quality were going to have to pay a fortune and convince the player and the big club he plays for to come/sell. Realistically Iniesta, Fabregas, Schweinsteiger and Charlie Adam aren't going to come because the clubs and the players are happy were they are (or have their heart set on somehwere else)

The idea should be to get them just before they hit that level because I can't see us trying to convince Barcelona or Real Madrid to sell one of their best players. Options like Sahin and Banega are the ones that spring to mind straight away. One's already been snapped up by Real Madrid and will likely be talked about in the list above sometime in the future whilst the other is still available. Is the player perfect? No of course not, the mentality of Banega is questionable but the quality is not and its all about if were willing to take the risk.

I'd love Modric but he's already said he wants to go to Chelsea so there's not a lot United can do...

Wouldn't want a player who wanted to go somewhere else first.

Well, originally I thought bullet dodged. But if we end up getting no one at all for CMF, then I'll be looking back wishing we'd gotten Adam, as another body at the very least.

Were getting Sneijder IMO. Not sure if how he'll do in a 2 man midfield but I think it's likely a deadline day deal with Tevez going their.

Adam is nowhere near Utd quality,he was blowing bubbles out of his arse in the second half of most of Blackpool's matches.We won't buy for the sake of buying, if it's just numbers we need we could promote from within.It's blindingly obvious we need to improve the starting quality for the CM position, not the bench.

if Adam was signed for United i bet you would praise him.. he is qualiy, i thought he is quality before even linked with LFC..it was a certain thing he will move from Blackpool, even if they stayed in PL..

on the other hand i still think as well you get Sneijder.. it´s a matter of time imo.

Sneijder just doesn't seem to me to be what we need. Wrong age, wrong price, wrong type of midfielder.

No doubting his quality, but I don't see him slotting into our system well.

i can´t agree on wrong age, he is in best age of his carrer, right now..

he can replace Scholes for next 5-6 years if he signs..would be the deal of summer if United buy him imo.. better than Aguero for the whole team..

don´t forget Jones might play as DM in your future team..
