You're probably right. Regardless of that, I dont believe it purely because its one of those "too good to be true" stories. Would love to see it happen of course.

Convinced now that Young was the backup to Sanchez, I think Sanchez is off to Inter or Barcelona but we gave it a go and have Young on stand by.

Modric race is heating up which is interesting, I don't think we can compete with Chelsea in terms of fee, I think they'll be willing to go upto 40M

Fixture list is pretty good! Good run in and the latter stages of Europe we won't have any big sides to contend with :))

@OptaJoe: 6 - All 6 of Man Utd's PL games following a CL group stage matchday are at home, while all 6 of Man City's are away. Contrast.

Playing the rest of last seasons top seven in the first ten games, ridiculous.

Though it does relieve us of a tough run-in which may well be telling.

Exactly, the league is won in May as long as were their or thereabouts come Feb we've got a great chance.

Sigh, looks like no Modric then. Seems a bit silly if we don't at least put in a bid, but he seems pretty set on Chelsea. Surprises me slightly, thought he would definitely be one Fergie would go in for.

If it's true that Banega is off to Italy for about £10m, I will weep.

Modric negates Anderson Beachryan, I said that before if we got him great but the price is OTT and Anderson wouldn't fit in, Defour might be a target. Banega would get my Muppets choice award but realistically its unlikely.

Yeah, thing is that I really Anderson, whenever he manages to play 3 matches in a row he looks properly good, especially at such a young age.

But, his fitness is just not reliable enough. We need someone that can play 40+ games a season in that position, and he's shown nothing to suggest he can manage that. He can typically only play 70 minutes of a given match!

This will be his first pre season though and he has since learned to curb his performance so it lasts the whole game like Everton for example. IMO he's already good enough to play and be a big player for us in the league (he was brilliant at home all season, as a team we were crap away) but he needs to be given the games in Europe to kick on.

The sheer lack of any actual interest in Modric suggests to me we're not gonna buy a central midfielder.

Modric, Sneijder, Nasri, Banega, Henderson, etc.

All rumours and nothing concrete. Fergie seems set on more wingers but then that too could be all smoke and no fire.

Worrying.

That list of yours Matherto says it all

Modric - very good player, but I don't think he'd suddenly transform us. I think Anderson has the potential to reach that level.

Sneijder - not a midfielder, he's a number 10 trequartista, we've arguably got one just as good as him already if not better.

Nasri - plays mostly as a 10 but I do think he could adapt to a 2 man midfield but is definitely lightweight. either way theirs no chance Arsenal would sell to United.

Banega - Definitely the best choice I see out their, can pass, can dribble and has got a lot of bite (sometimes too much as he is a bit loco) so could IMO easily play next to Anderson which would have the potential to be brilliant.

Henderson :LMAO: Not as good as what we've got and IMO not going to become much better than say Fletcher.


Their doesn't seem to be a real bunch of quality open to us. the REAL top draw our unachievable for us - Fabregas, Iniesta, Schweinsteiger etc.

I've seen reports about Lassana Diarra, he'd be an interesting addition to the squad.

Would certainly fill that Hargreaves sized gap in our squad.

I don't rate Diarra at all. Definitely not the solution.

I think the above list just sums up the problem for Fergie et al. There isn't an outstanding, obvious choice out there.

For that reason I hope we either promote from within, or get a relatively low key player.

I have seen a lot of interest about Ever Banega here and at redcafe...BUT...he hasn't been linked to us at all.Cracking natural central midfielder though.

Didn't he play against you at Old Trafford for Valencia ? You would hope someone from the club might have noticed them.

Looks like Young had his medical with us tonight, presuming he passed it, could be announced tomorrow.

I'm reasonably pleased with it. Improves the squad and means less matches with Giggs out wide/ Park pretending to be a wing forward.

Hope it doesn't put Nani in a funk though. I'm not worried about Valencia, the man is a machine.

Still missing that centre mid though isnt it. A good purchase in that department + De Gea and it'll have been a decent summer I suppose

The main squad numbers are very bare 1, 2, 4, maybe 6, 18 etc etc

Young costing us approximately £17m? Pjil Jones cost us £16m and Henderson went to Liverpool for £20m. Thought Young would have cost alot more.

Its always good to see a british player sign for us.I think Young should have the number 7 given to him....nevertheless I expect some sort of a number reshuffling to be done soon for the first team.
